Hi Wolf, I was your opponent in round 6 and I was really happy to get to play you, the whole match was an awesome experience, good games! The reason why I went for surging strikes and not aqua jet in game 3 was because my urshifu was 252 hp/212 spdef and it was made to take dazzling gleam from a specs flutter mane from full hp, so I thought it likely would have taken the hit at that range and decided to go for that move. We also met at the wcs this year, hopefully we will meet again in Hawaii!

@@marceloasensiofilho3833 he went over it briefly in the actual recording, you might be able to find it on his vods channel. I think he went with it because it was a straightforward offense team and every mon was definitely good, didn't overthink it

@@AaronAlert77 Still, the Problem is that in the current format, urshifu is a must have. It just doesnt make sense not to run it because you would just make your team weaker. Its just too overpowered.
@@Wuerschtle The only actual must have is Flutter Mane. You can give up Urshifu if you want to be less susceptible to his many common weaknesses, which requires to build a slightly more defensive team which can succeed, but with Flutter Mane you either have it or lose to it, since it counters itself with ghost being weak to its own ghost STAB and without a way to counter opposing manes you are in a much bigger disadvantage.

I think gyrados is gonna be really really good in this format for it’s bulky intimidate that natively resists water and fighting. Only issue is that it kabooms to hisuian arcanine

Got distracted because the camera messed up. Almost throws the game. Still manages to put opponent into a position that hard position which causes them to lose the game.

Wolfe explaining/play by playing competitive Pokémon single handedly got me back into the game.

Interestingly, his last set was vs Michaelderbeste, one of the finalists this WCS 2023, and he was already using a team close to what he used in the world championships 54:26
Miss your usual prep explanation on your team and their movesets/roles, which makes it much easier to understand why certain situations you were in were bad or good etc. Otherwise, great to see more Wolfey content!

I suggest to add a new room (like : trick room & wonder room) called "Reverse room" . it should inverse "Super effective" -> "not very effective" , and "not very effective" -> "super effective"

tera watering urshifu to destroy your opponent is very interactive gameplay and interesting use of tera
yea the power creep is going through the roof
i also don't get some moveset nerfs
like, taking knock off from many pokemon is good
taking power whip and heat crash from copperajah or taking superpower from lurantis is nonesensical
and giving urshifu swords dance and trailblaze is just silly

urshifu frustrates me, it’s so so well animated when it comes to its attacks, fainting animation etc, it proves they can do interesting things but just don’t want to
To be fair, they would need to animate different pokemon for the same moves, I understand it would be an ordeal when there are 700~ ish pokemon per game... Still they could obviously do way better with their generic animations
There're plenty of well-animated mons that originate from both before and after the jump to 3D. The quality has always been inconsistent, them all being bad was just hyperbole from people asshurt at modern Pokemon as a whole.

Terastallizing basically gives your Pokémon Technician. Surging Strikes’ and Aqua Jet’s base power is raised to 60, I think.
Multi hit moves and priority moves do not get the boost to minimum 60bp from Tera

l like the post-com analysis more l think, this felt more like a clip compilation of a live-stream. It's not bad for what it is, but it feels like l dont know all the context because there are so many cuts, and because of that l dont feel really invested thus making me not watch an entire hour of this. Cool that a new VGC-season has started tho :]
It feels that way because it is a stream compilation - the full vod will be uploaded to WolfeyVods within a week or two, if you'd rather watch the uncut version!

If there's one thing this video has taught me it's that not even professionals have any idea what the hell is happening in competitive SV
Wolfe, I’ve been using a vivillion in doubles competitive with Compound eyes Sleep power, Hurricane, Light Screen, and Pollen Puff, it surprisingly has done me decently

IDK why i had this thought whilst watching this but I came up with a pokemon ability that in my head sounds so fun and yet so broken at the same time. I think I'd call it "Equivalent Exchange": the Pokémon can choose to focus a spread move into a single target attack gaining a 1.5 boost to the moves BP but will suffer from either a status effect or lose 20% of their max HP at the end of their turn (it'd be dependent on the move type). The ability can only be used once each time the pokemon hits the field so just like intimidate or fakeout you can reuse it by swapping the mon out which comes with its own dangers to play around. Probably need to blance it by giving the mon a middle of the road Atk, SpAk and Spd as well as low HP and high Def and SpDef so its frail can hit realitively hard and can take atleast one or two hits before going down.

Aqua jet was so strong because tera sets most moves under 60 bp to 60 bp
I think priority moves and multi-hit moves aren’t affected by that

Hey, since gen 9 already has its dlcs, i have a prediction for gen 10, the new mechanics, we had mega that changes forms, z-move changes move, dynamax changes move and form, tera changes type, what's left, ability. So it can be either adding new ability or activating all possible abilities of a pokemon, i definitely prefer the later, it would make normal pokemon more powerfull while not buff legendary and mythical at all cause they usually only have 1 ability, i really wanna use loaded dice with my favorite technician Cinccino, and excadrill gonna be Uber, lol

@@D_Owo Yeah he didn’t win worlds this year but that doesn’t mean that throughout his career he isn’t the GOAT or at least in the conversation of one of the greatest VGC players. It’s incredibly difficult to win worlds and Wolfe has done so (also getting to a final as well) and I believe he’s also won the most other levels of tournaments. He’s won every type of tournament at least once which is just incredible. So just because he didn’t win worlds this year doesn’t mean that he isn’t in contention to be the greatest ever.
@@D_Owo Also if you’re into football, Messi is regarded by most as the GOAT, but he’s “only” won the World Cup once and recently at that. Even if he never won it he’d still be considered by most, if not 50%, as the greatest footballer of all time.

There is leaks of a regional ursaluna that has its on version of gigaton hammer, it’s called blood moon ursaluna and it’s assumably a steel/ground type, has its own unique ability that works as scrappy and prevents its moves being affected from accuracy drops or opposing evasion boosts
It now has confirmed stats and abilities and it’s a normal steel type
The fact that almost every lead matchup was poor was just crazy. Like every new round started with "uh oh."

i see many pokemon can survive super effective attack in the video, so i wonder when EV train should i invest more on HP or DEF/SDEF if i want my pokemon to survive some attacks?
Always HP for bulk, except in extremely niche situations like you have 200+ base HP & low defenses or are using eviolite.
Essentially, if you haven't calced for specific stuff, prioritize HP for bulk.

@@BoopJoop it just generally results in the most overall bulk. Investing in HP increases similar bulk on either side, but both at once, so you save EVs. Ie: 252 HP is about as specially bulky as 252 SpD, but also about as physically bulky as 252 def.
The exceptions are like guzzlord, who has diminishing returns on HP but high returns on defenses due to their relative values.
