27:06 - Before the proclamation of the independence of Malaya was made, on 30 August 1957 at 12.00 midnight at Padang Kelab Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, a ceremony was held to bring down the Union Jack flag as the British national anthem signaled the end of British colonialism in Malaya; The flag of the Federation of Malaya was raised alternately by members of the Malayan Navy. More Info : • The Independence of the Federation of Malaya was officially declared at precisely 9.30am on 31 August 1957. The Independence Proclamation Ceremony took place at the Merdeka Stadium with the witness of over 20,000 people including Malay Kings, special guests from abroad, members of the Federal Government cabinet and common people. At this historic ceremony, the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Gloucester handed over the Constitution to the Prime Minister, marking the end of British patronage over Malaya ( a.k.a Federation of Malay Land / Persekutuan Tanah Melayu ). [ The first declaration of independence of the Federation of Malaya was made in Padang Bandar Hilir, Malacca on February 20, 1956 ].
What a wonderful video. Glad to see you guys and your boys exploring KL. Great content and a good start at the Central Market. Lots of interesting things to see and eat too.
I've read lots of feedback about the filling in the bun like brioche. Inside the bun is what known as 'kaya', it's a curd made from egg yolk, coconut cream and palm sugar, it's very sweet and typically used as a spread for sliced bread toasts and also in some local traditional desserts.
I think that the next time you guys and your boys are in KL, you could try 'karipap', the local curry puff, like empanadas, and also 'apam balik', a fold pancake with ground peanuts filling.
The river of life, where you guys saw one of the oldest mosque in KL situated between two rivers, that's where KL got its name, Kuala is estuary and Lumpur is mud.
17:34 - Something the bread is called "Kaya". It is made from the main ingredients which are chicken eggs, flour and sugar. "Kaya" word in other mean is rich.

Kaya is short for Seri Kaya a type of coconut custard jam made by reducing egg yolks and coconut milk with sugar flavored with Pandan . Its an aromatic herb that has a jasmine-like scent its sort of south east Asian vanilla. The juice of the green blade of Pandan leaves is extracted its always green in color. Depending on the type of sugar used it can also have different taste. I prefer Kaya using the local dark brown palm sugar called "Gula Melaka" which makes the Kaya brown in color, using plain white sugar will give it a more green color (color of pandan juice).
Glad to see a happy family ! Just a bit of malay culture, we use our right hand when giving or taking anything ftom someone, we will say sorry if we have to used our left hand if that is necessary,
Logan needs to look into chickpeas - they are really versatile and a great source of protein for vegetarians. I use chickpeas almost every day in my vegan cooking.
The filling of the bun is kaya which is made from coconut milk, egg and sugar. And the wrap is pandan leaf and not banana leaf. Pandan is an aromatic leaf which is commonly used in making desserts. It is also known as the vanilla of south east Asia
It's ok... Foods is not for everyone... One might like it n some might not... Our preference always different... 😂😂😂😂 But the experience is always never be bought... Thanks for the bravery to try it...
