Yet another great review! I've been rolling with the GR1 for 4 years now and like that I can add a water bottle holder to the molle on the side so it doesn't take up room inside the pack.
Starting to lose patience with the weight of GR1 products for one bag travel and now strongly considering this bag. Thanks for the great review. Love your vibe as well.
Just picked up the gr1 on their Xmas in July sale. So far very impressed. Thing feels bulletproof and someone isn’t any heavier than I’m used to. Great comparison review.
@@intervention8816 I believe it’s called gunmetal. It’s a kind of dark gray with black molle. Used it almost every day for two years and not a scratch on it. Just recently caught a Kaidan bullet and switched to that for every day use.
I have both of these bags, and I agree on about everything that you said. The one thing I would like to mention is the front pocket on the GoRuck is not very useful when you have the bag packed. It is so tight you can hardly get anything in it making it almost useless. If I was going to war or doing one of the GoRuck challenges I would for sure use the GR one, but for an EDC the recycled fire fighter is more than enough and I think for 99.9% of us it will do the job and you should save the money. Great video! Love your Channel !!
Nice review. I’ve been carrying a 26l gr1 for about 2yrs. It’s not perfect, but highly versatile. The GoRuck also has an internal frame sheet and that makes a big difference, even under light load.
My EDC pack has been a Crater Snowboard backpack (USA made by Gregory) since around 1996. After 24 years it's getting a little worn, but I got it on closeout from the Campmor catalog for under $25 so I'm pretty happy with it so far. I've been looking at the Recycled Firefighter bags as a possible replacement.
Hey David, Would you please speak to your final decision on a pack? I'm most interested if you went with a pricey overengineered pack or something like your last one. My marmot has lasted for 20 years but is showing extreme age. I can't decide if I should just buy another "cheap" backpack 🤔
@@michaelfromaustin I went with the Recycled Firefighter Battalion 24hr backpack. Really well thought out pack. I'm still using my old Gregory as my weekend man purse, I just can't give it up completely after all these years, but for going back and forth to work I really like the Recycled Firefighter pack.
I was able to get a weeks work of clothes and other travel essentials in the Recycled Firefighter with no problem. Though I did feel the weight. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much this bag can handle for just 18L. I am looking for a new one though with better back support and shoulder harness, but I’ll still find use for my RFF. If the main compartment is stuffed you will need a little patients to grab anything from the front access pocket.
Fair comparison. I have both. 24HR Battalion is a very good value for a great bag. It carries bigger than the 18L it’s listed at. More like 22- 25L. The GoRuck is more of a travel bag for me for trips longer than 3 days. Takes a little longer to break in as noted by George.
Recycled Firefighter all the way! You cannot beat the workmanship and customer service that Jake and the small Recycled Firefighter team provide; top notch company and products! Plus, ALL of Recycled Firefighter's products are USA made.
@@squalt13 It was on clearance for $195 on their website and then I got 25% Military discount. It looks like since I purchased they have eliminated the discounts on clearance merchandise and also reduced the military discount down to 15%. I purchased 4 packs, a GR1, Rucker, Bullet and Speed Rucker. The Speed Rucker was the newer made in Vietman and the quality wasn't near what the other three were so I send the Speed Rucker back. I love the rest of them though.
Have both bags. Massive fan of both. Both amazing Made In USA quality. The front pocket on the Recycked Firefighter is awesome. The front pocket on the GR1 is the only thing I don’t like about the GR1. The GR1 is built like a tank and is damn near indestructible. People complaining about the price need to actually handle their Made In USA products first. The straps on the Goruck bags take a while to “break in”, but once broken in they are soooooo comfy! The Recycled Firefighter is lighter. When opened in the clamshell configuration, the sides of the Recycled Firefighter sometimes flop down, whereas the GR1 sides stay up, so nothing falls out. The laptop compartment in the Recycled Firefighter is good, but the GR1 is better. With a 13” MacBook in the Recycled Firefighter laptop compartment you notice the stiffness/hardness of the laptop on your back, with the GR1 which has more padding on the laptop compartment you don’t really notice it. Love the high vis of the Recycled Firefighter. If you get the Velcro insert for the Recycled Firefighter and some of the mesh velcro pockets they make, it makes an awesome bag for weekend trips or even longer minimalist trips. Another annoying thing is with the Gar1, attaching the Goruck pouches makes the elasticised internal sleeve pretty useless, unless you use a small one like the Echo pouch. Both bags are awesome. Jake from Recycled Firefighter is an awesome guy and their customer service in my opinion has been great. Goruck’s general customer service not as good, but have heard their Scars Lifetime Warranty is apparently amazing. I’ve had my GR1 for five years and it’s like new. Final tip, Goruck has sales every now and then (few times a year), so good to pick up stuff then. Just discovered your channel. Great video mate!
@@GeorgeDEFINED great channel mate! Some othe suggestions for great bags to review are Triple Aught Design, Hill People Gear, Life Behind Bars, and Greenroom136. Keep up the good work! 👍👍
Great video, I just ordered a goruck Rucker, specifically have it for rucking and working out, May use for EDC but we’ll see. I’ll probably make an unboxing video
I researched both of these bags when picking my own backpack. I ended up with the Brown Buffalo 26L Conceal Pack though. It has all the great construction of the GoRuck with some excellent organization. That being said I did pick up a Topo Core backpack on sale to try out since I do miss having a water bottle pocket sometimes.
Absolutely the best reviews ever. I just purchased the firefighter as an EDC for air travel that fits under the seat. Would love to see comparison on best packs for carry-on size overhead and under seat personal size carry.
I've got 2 different bags from Recycled firefighter and like 4 or 5 wallets I really like his products they are all made by hand in the USA so that's a huge plus also I think it's a great medium between high end quality materials and still being affordable I got a duffle barrel bag 20 liters with a wallet and some patches for 51 bucks on a special and I got one of the 159 bags for 140 with a discount and broke down into 4 interest free payments of 34 bucks so that's pretty sweet, there is always gonna be products that are bigger and better but you will definitely pay for it , I really like what I get from recycled firefighter only downside is the warranty like you said but if anything is wrong with the bag right out the box you can definitely get it replaced but once you have it and use it for 30 days it's on you then .... nice review tho 👍👍👍
Now this is a review. Very thoughtout and direct. Looking into the RF24 for my first back to ruck in. Have to pay 9 dollars for a warranty which is just odd, but I suppose a good way to make extra money if the product holds up.
Aside from Vertx, I've been carrying the OGIO Convoy 320 and 520 for a few months now. At 20L the 320 is perfect for the gym (awesome water bottle holders) and just enough organization for a light EDC. Plus you can find them for $100 or less.
Right now I’ve got the GR2 26L(mostly for work). I know it’s crazy, but I want to get a GR1 26L for every thing other than work. Days at the pool, hikes, even neighborhood dog walks with Rucker plates to get a bit of a workout in.
As a former Army Special Operations Soldier, I can attest to Go Ruck's capability and robust durability...Mike the founder of Go Ruck is a prior SF Operator and their gear is purpose driven for a more active lifestyle as it was designed for Special Forces units so it's geared for rucking, hiking, climbing, but has the added benefit to be used as an "overbuilt" EDC bag...Recycled Firefighter on the other hand is more of a start up company and the founder Jake designs this gear in his garage, much of which comes from recycled firefighter gear from his connections from his time as a firefighter...so really 2 different spectrums, both great pieces of kit but definitely purpose driven and of course we all know that that USA construction is going to ante that price up...awesome content, just wanted to provide context for people who may not know.
For anyone seeing this more recently, GoRuck didn't design anything, they're based on medic/assault packs used by everybody, not just SF. This is marketing fluff. Every single GR design is taken from other manufacturers.
I feel like the vertical front pocket is a great feature for an edc pack. GoRuck probably doesn't include it for Rucking reasons, but in my opinion this is just a better, more fun design.
I'm looking to jump into the super-durable range of backpacks. This review is awesome. The time flies by and the information is what I need. GoRuck is looking like the choice I want to make, but I'll have to get some gear to make it specific to my needs. Thank you for this video.
I’ve got a gr1 26 l. I was looking at both these, but the 24 hour was too small, the 24 hour plus wasn’t in stock, and I found the gr1 on sale for $200. I love my gr1, but I might grab a 24 hour plus for a friend
thanks for your comparison. I'm about to buy one EDC Backback, I owned a few like the Peak Design or the nomatic. The thing is, I wasn't satisfied with it. And so I came to Goruck.
Nice comparison George, thanks. I just wish these bags have molle on the sides so bottle pouches can be attached like the Maxpedition XBP. Thats the reason why my favourite edc bags are still my 5.11 Rush 12 and the Maxpedition Riftcore. Cheers.
Cordura is a brand name of a number of nylon-based fabrics made by Koch Industries. My understanding is that there are a wide variety of different variations made under the same brand name so there are probably several different types of "1000D Cordura" with slightly different properties. That would explain the difference.
Good review. For the price of the goruck I would choose Osprey, a little more versatile for me and still has lifetime warranty, but I love recycled firefighter stuff, I have the wallet and pouch and am looking at the 24hr. Handmade in USA, can’t beat that
Thank you for the backpack comparison. I found it very useful! As a backpack enthusiast, what do you recommend for traveling in different countries? My backpack is the 30L base backpack from the united blue
Hahaha funny intro, definitely all of us before pulling the trigger. Anyway, wanted to ask you if you’ve tried them in the rain? I had a gr1 that got stolen and it was awesome, i recently purchased the RFF because i got a good deal during Black Friday but ive notice there are small gaps between the zippers when fully closed and got me wondering if water would easily go through inside the bag. Hopefully you read this and give me some insight. Thanks.
Hey George - well done!! I’m going to have to get that tech organizer you showed! I’m still rocking the Recycled Fire Fighter 24hr- the front pocket organization, price and interior the Velcro panel (an extra purchase) is what cinched it for me. That being said I had a chance to find out how the no warranty thing works out. When I bought it I was all caught up in the small shop made in America thing and incorrectly assumed it had a warranty. So here’s what happened: used the pack for less than a month and one of the straps started ripping out from the top of the pack under normal edc use that a Jansport could handle. I contacted RFF they asked for a picture which I provided and the order number from my purchase - which I was unable to locate. They were able to research it then they asked that I send in for them to review which I did on my own dime/time. RE the customer service experience it was all via email and I could tell I was dealing with two different persons who didn’t seem to know what the other was doing. One was snarky but I put up with it hoping to get the pack repaired or replacement - in the end they made good sending me a new pack it just showed up. But it wasn’t an optimal experience. $160 ish is enough money that there should be a no hassle return/ repair policy or they should clearly communicate on their site RFF offers no formal warranty. But I have several other of their products I”d purchased prior to this pack that I like and are well built. I just don’t know if I’ll spend any more money their in the future.
Thanks for watching and your experience San.. I always hesitate purchasing from companies with wacky return policies.. It's almost like they are playing hot potato with their own $hit. See ya
Hi. None of your links in the description are working. Is there anything you might be able to do about this? I'm interested in some of the products you have listed. Thank you.
George I want to start rucking and can't believe the prices and has me totally blown on making a decision on what bag to purchase to start off rucking. What do u think? This review is very helpful to
I’m really looking for a small-ish edc bag with a morale patch area in the front. Gonna look at this recycled firefighter, I like the looks of the LBT 8005 too. Tough choices
Currently using the maxpedition riftcore. I know your not a fan of the tactical stuff, but I encourage you to check this pack out. I am curious about picking up a vanquest trident 21, just waiting for your review to drop first Champ.
great comparison. been wanting to get a GORUCK for some time, just wonder, does the 26L fit a 17inch laptop. my 17laptop is very thin and light. low profiles too.
I wish they copied the RFF slash pocket style instead of goruck's tight pocket though, plus RFF is so lightweight compared to Goruck/CT, RFF's design is also sleeker and cleaner, but of course CT also has some good improvements like water pockets inside and high vis interior.
Just ordered a GR1. Then I found out it's not made in America. That kinda pisses me off. That was part of the reason I was OK paying what I paid. Now I feel kinda ripped off. Feel like I should have went with the RFF bag.
I've got the RFF 24hr and it's perfect for me for EDC. I do wish it was slightly bigger (if they could make a 24L version with similar dimensions to the GR1 that'd be great!). I've never really been interested in the GR1 simply for value reasons. I don't need a rugged, go anywhere, over engineered bag so why would I spend double for that.
On eBay I purchased the tactical hanging bottle buckle clip and attached it to the shoulder strap so the water bottle is easily accessible by your chest. I like it. It's attached to the plastic loop on the shoulder strap. Just looped it through and snapped it shut and put on my water bottle.
The recycled firefighter bag lost me with the depth of the pockets inside the front zipper area. If those pockets were shallower, I would be all about it and then there’s nothing on the side of the bag for Molley. I actually want to tie a temporary cord from Molley to Molley across the strap side of the bag to put over the handles on my roller suitcase for going through airports so I don’t have to carry the backpack on my back at all times. I’ll handle pass-through would be incredible. The cost of the GR lost me.. even though it’s a nice bag. Although it does have the Molley on the sides that I could put a temporary pass through for My Suitcase Carrie. Just a piece of Paracord tied across would hold the bag where I need it in the airport. A few slight changes in either of these bags would be the perfect bag for me, but the perfect bag will never exist! It would be nice to have boaf of these bags.
My EDC? A 20 year old EastPack.... But maybe soon I will get a Goruck? maybe not... I like the clamshell design and simplicity. Even with just two pockets I lose stuff in my EastPack. I put it in there and then forget. I find it a year later. What's the solution? EDC! Just have EVERYTHING I might want in one pack. So I should get a BIG 26L Goruck. I will not forget where the $300 went! I would rather go to a store and pick the pack up and look at it... I do not like this online shopping AT ALL! IMHO
George - I’d take a north face recon or surge for way less than that 300 dollar bag for sure. North face is the gold standard for backpacks with life time warranty.
Jim Allocco I use to love Nf backpacks. Until I discovered Osprey. About the same price and also comes with lifetime warranty. I prefer the shoulder pads and weight of osprey backpacks.
I just don’t get it with these bags and their prices. No water bottle pocket or side pockets?!?!?! They look like back packs that you would get at the army surplus store. I also love the high vis interior in bags and packs which is about the only thing I even liked about these packs. For me, there are a lot of others packs out there that are better and their prices make sense. The Northface, Osprey, Gregory, Kelty and even Samsonite make some great packs with nice warrantees. I am currently carrying the Osprey Tropos for business travel and weekend hiking or camping in the summer. I carry a samsonite back pack for everyday business although I am looking to get and try the Northface Recon soon for everyday business commute. I have a Kelty, Osprey and Gregory packs for hiking and backpacking in the back country.
Never go with recycled firefighter @recycledfirefighter spend the money and get better gear. Recycledfirefighter is trash!! What is promoted a not what is sold !

I had a gr1 that got stolen and it was awesome, i recently purchased the RFF because i got a good deal during Black Friday but ive notice there are small gaps between the zippers when fully closed and got me wondering if water would easily go through inside the bag. Hopefully you read this and give me some insight. Thanks.
Awesome video, content keeps getting better .
Thanks for compliment Noah.. See ya ✌🏾
Vertx, it was the edc ready but just switched to the Gamut 2.0
Vertx is the pack to get I guess.. I need to get hip! See ya
See ya
Absolutely loving the channel homie, im a pack nerd so subscibing was a must! 👊😁
Hi. None of your links in the description are working. Is there anything you might be able to do about this? I'm interested in some of the products you have listed. Thank you.
George I want to start rucking and can't believe the prices and has me totally blown on making a decision on what bag to purchase to start off rucking. What do u think? This review is very helpful to
I would start with any backpack you have. If you like then invest in a good one.
I’m really looking for a small-ish edc bag with a morale patch area in the front. Gonna look at this recycled firefighter, I like the looks of the LBT 8005 too. Tough choices
I would get the RFF.. It's a better pack..IMHO
I like that color of multi cam with the high vis lining. Pretty cool, but not as cool as George winning the academy awards for best intros
An the nomination goes to... See ya
Currently using the maxpedition riftcore. I know your not a fan of the tactical stuff, but I encourage you to check this pack out.
I am curious about picking up a vanquest trident 21, just waiting for your review to drop first Champ.
Man.. you know how put the press on..lol
Hey George, my EDC bag is either my LL Bean contential ruck sack or my north face recon (the older 2018 one)
Love that ll.bean pack bought it twice..lol HIGH VALUE!! See ya ✌🏾
Great comparison. Very thorough 😉🙌.
Thanks for watching.. See ya
Great comparison bud! I’ve been carrying the Mystery Ranch Roboflip. Definitely recommend checking it out. It has a unique style to it.
Thanks for the suggestion!! I'm going to check it out.. See ya
Nice comparison vide👍 even with that Pittsburgh Stealers decal behind you.
Carolina Panthers 💪
Yeah man.. I haven't watched football in 3 seasons.. i use to be a Steelers fan.. I like Cam tho.. Be safe ✌🏾
G whats your height and weight man? Im built like a brick shithouse too, but I stay backpacking.
I'm 6 foot 275.. i hope you can get an idea. See ya ✌🏾
Solid review. Cheers
great comparison. been wanting to get a GORUCK for some time, just wonder, does the 26L fit a 17inch laptop. my 17laptop is very thin and light. low profiles too.
HmmmI I don't have a 17 inch laptop man... Sorry I couldn't be more help! See ya
Next maybe do a review on a London Bridge Trading bag. The 14L looks like a really great EDC option! Love the channel!
Trevor you may be on to something!! lol It's coming See ya
I use the Aer Flight Pack 2
Nice.. I like that pack but everyone one and their mom reviews Aer.. Still dope tho.. See ya
Great review. Wondering what you are thinking of the Brown Buffalo CB V3 version?
I love it.. it's on my list to buy.. I will definitely review in the next couple of months.. See ya ✌🏾
@@GeorgeDEFINED alright, looking forward to it, thx 👍🏻
Thankfully, we can buy CT21 21L with 89USD at CTactical store in Vietnam. :)
I wish they copied the RFF slash pocket style instead of goruck's tight pocket though, plus RFF is so lightweight compared to Goruck/CT, RFF's design is also sleeker and cleaner, but of course CT also has some good improvements like water pockets inside and high vis interior.
Great reviews thanks for the videos
Hey Jack.. Thanks for watching.. See ya ✌🏾
Do you feel like you need a frame sheet in the Recycled Firefighter?
Nope.. very comfortable.. See ya ✌🏾
Just ordered a GR1. Then I found out it's not made in America. That kinda pisses me off. That was part of the reason I was OK paying what I paid. Now I feel kinda ripped off. Feel like I should have went with the RFF bag.
Don't feel bad the GR1 is excellent no matter the country.
The Gorruck bags have a no return policy on sale items and they are always on sale so that means....no return haha. Im sticking with evergoods.
I appreciate your insight Patrick! Thanks for watching.. See ya
@@GeorgeDEFINED btw man, I've been watching your vids for the last 6 months and you keep getting better. Keep going, love your work.
@@patrickhernandez9529 Working on a couple videos right now Patrick. I appreciate the compliment..
For those who have the Recycled Firefighter 24. Any tips on how to carry a water bottle?
I think a company called grayman make a molle insert that you can use.. Be Safe
@@GeorgeDEFINED thanks I'll check it out
On eBay I purchased the tactical hanging bottle buckle clip and attached it to the shoulder strap so the water bottle is easily accessible by your chest. I like it.
It's attached to the plastic loop on the shoulder strap. Just looped it through and snapped it shut and put on my water bottle.
Nice review bro
Thanks for watching man! See ya
Can I fit a 16” blackout upper in the goruck???
I want to know too..
@@GeorgeDEFINED i guess it can stick out the port hole if it doesn’t completely conceal
Can you review the Prometheus design werx shado?
Nice! Great suggestion I'm going to put it on my list. Thanks man 👍🏾
George DEFINED oh wow I didn’t think I’d actually get a response! Thanks man. Love the channel.
I thought the recycled firefighter bag was made with fire hoses and fire jackets?
Some of their other items wallets and organizers. This pack is made of courdura. Be Safe
how bout evergoods cpl?
I like the design.. I hope they add some organization in the front panel.. See ya
Man we want something cool for your 5K subs!
Something cool! Hmmm 🤔 Let me think on it..
Good video
Subscribed after the intro lmao.
Thanks for the Sub! See ya ✌🏾
IMHO
511 rush 12 Multicam
Nice.. My friend just got the same pack.. EDC Hall of Fame! See ya ✌🏾
I can't argue.. I like to do the a wide range of bags. TNF has my heart forever.. See ya
First tactical one day plus edc
Nice.. got a 5.11 rush vibe going on.. I like it.. See ya ✌🏾
I have more items in black multicam than I care to admit and I've never seen BMC in 1000d. Its most likely 500d.
I can only go by what they list.. See ya
@@GeorgeDEFINED for sure for sure, i'm saying they might have their spec listed incorrectly. take care
Buy the GR1 and be done!
I can't argue! See ya ✌🏾
Evergoods cpl!
I hear you Carson.. I think that's an excellent pack.. I going to add it to my list. See ya
Bruh this intro 🤣👍
No water bottles pockets! I'm out.. LOL I hear you man.. Thanks for the comment.. See ya
Gamut 2.0
The Gamut 2.0 is on deck this month! See ya
$300 back pack? Lol
Crazy right! See ya
Buy once, cry once.
Never go with recycled firefighter @recycledfirefighter spend the money and get better gear. Recycledfirefighter is trash!! What is promoted a not what is sold !
What is trash about them?
George DEFINED have gotten several products from wallets to edc holders and masks just does not hold up like his old stuff
