    Probably a good idea to wear a decent mask while doing this. Those little flakes of metallic stuff flying around set my alarm bells off a bit. Cool product though! :)

    Must say this is one of the best applications of these powder pigments. Lots of other applications I have seen have brush strokes. I suppose the trick is to use the finger after all 👍

    I use this method for toy restorations, especially older toys that have plastic chrome mirror effects on them. The best gloss coat I’ve found that doesn’t dull the chrome effect is Alclad II lacquer. You can also use chrome powder pigments meant for nail salons, wider variety of colors and a finer powder, also cheaper. :)

    I used the nail salon version powder on my Z’gok as a test. With the UV cured topcoat gel from my girlfriend’s nail DIY kit. Works very well and the topcoats are amazing. Matte ones have those skin feels to it and the gloss ones made the Z’gok look like just out of water. I am really curious about airbrush that UV gel. If it works, I would use the matte one on the RG EVA.

      I got the same stuff and I think the UV curing is awesome and leaves an unreal durable surface. What I am trying to learn now is how they blend the colors so you have sweet transitions between two colors. Not as easy to do thats for sure.

    Check it out buddy, you know you can just get some mica powder that they use in the nail industry and get the exact same results and the fantastic thing is it is a fraction of the cost. You are right, that is all they did here, they took the same product, marketed it for the modeling industry and then applied a totally absurd price point to it (upwards of 500%)!

    I'm interested in using this stuff to chromify some Battlestar Galactica Cylons. How viable is it to paint over this stuff with black, since I'm quite positive that there will at the very least be a bit of color spill, and that's assuming if I can avoid chroming the entire parts?

  • @JHartModelworks
    @JHartModelworks 3 роки тому +1

    The problem with these is that unless you seal this with a clear in some way it will eventually just rub off. Uschi Van Der Rosten does a fantastic chrome powder with the same issue. Most clears ruin the effect. Someone got a descent result but he basically applied the powder over gloss black, applied some aqua gloss, another coat of powder, another coat of aqua gloss and then a coat of 2K clear. that is a lot of work to seal in a powder pigment. and Valejo Primer is absolute trash...
    If you like these, you need to try Uschi's powders.
    Also like someone below said, do it over paper so you can recover the excess.

  • @Auchaser643
    @Auchaser643 3 роки тому

    Not sure how I feel about it, it's not shortening the work you do and eventually I believe it will just rub off

  • @DeeeFoo

    Isn't this the same kind of powder that people use as nail polish for their nails to have a mirror chrome effect? Also, how do you seal/finish these while preserving the look?

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 роки тому +1

      I believe it's close to the nail product. I tried some nail powders and it didn't work for me but I did get some gold powder at Hobby Lobby and those did work. You can seal it with most clear coats after it's fully dried. I had good luck with Vallejo Metal Varnish or Vallejo clears in the spray can

      @@barbatosrex9473 Thanks! What do you think is the best method of achieving a mirror-esque reflective metallic look of various colors? I'm painting some 3D-printed lightsaber hilts, and some of them, such as Mace Windu's, have both reflective chrome/gold parts on it. There are some others that have a reflective bronze/copper look that I plan on doing later. Inexpensive would be nice.
