You have to understand something about Minot. It wouldn't be everyone's first choice, but if you want to serve on a base where the mission is absolutely vital to this nations defense, then Minot is a great choice for that. The world situation is vastly different, and I don't think the bombers there are on nuclear alert any more since the end of the cold war, but at that time Minot was one of the largest and most powerful nuclear bases in the free world. I served there in S.A.C. , aircraft maint. and I always felt that what I was doing was important. That was my compensation for having to serve there.
hey man I leave for basic Oct 6th! I can't wait join, This sure does prove the fact that AF has some of the best bases in the world. excited to get my career started.
Wild Blue. You probably won’t see this but I’m currently in tech school for Missile and Space systems electronic maintenance which is 2M0X1A. So I’ll most likely be stationed in Minot, FE Warren or Malmstrom and this video honestly made my day because everyone says Minot is awful and I’m gonna hate it but thank you for showing the positives.
Holy crap, that place is amazing !! Much nicer than when I was there, and it was nice even then. Played a TON of racquetball, LOTS of running. We had a racquetball court at the old tanker pad, and a little paved running track around the pad perimeter. I guess the tankers all moved to G.F. so the pad is abandoned now.
Great tour. The Air Force has some of the best gyms I've ever seen, military or not. And this ranks among the top. I was wondering if you might be able to talk about finances in another video. I know you aren't a retired airman making bookoo money, but just would like to know if there is anything we should invest in/not invest in, or any tips you might have on saving money and spending it wisely instead of just buying a nice car as an a1c.
Stationed at Minot AFB in late 1960’s. At that time One basketball court One handball court One combined area w large mat and some weights. One weight machine. Locker rooms w a steam room and a sauna. And that was it.
Great Tour! Always ask my daughter to do this for me so I can share as well but shes real iffy about stuff like this. :) This at least gives future airman that will be stationed there an idea on what to prepare for or at least what to expect... Thanks for all you do!
Hey man sick channel be watching for a while shipping out in a few months had a quick question I know your busy and if you cant get back to me its fine bro ! I love the gym and working out when can I start going to the gym ? I know not during basic but can I start going to the base gym during Tech and so forth ?Once again man thanks for these videos they explain a lot I'm excited to start as a airmen! Good luck wish you the best bro !
+Jesus Gomez You can start going to the gym at your tech school. All tech schools will have a gym that you can go to as soon as your first week if you'd like. You'll probably be too busy on your very first day/week but you'll have plenty of time later
brother I love your page I've been considering the AIR FORCE and you've help me out a lot with my process. if you don't mind I've got a question for you.
Hey are you still active on this channel man.. If so is there any way I could connect to you.. Thinking of moving out this way since they allow ex military to live O. Or near base.. I'm old school military.. 81st army airborne and some other stuff but ya... Let me know man.. Love the videos.
+Katurian Katurian so I'm a freshman who's in it currently, and I have always wanted to join a college frat and have the college experience. I want to at least do a little partying, but I'm worried it'll interfere with ROTC
Bob Saget Are you a freshmen in college or high school? Any type of ROTC program has rules you need to follow, but I'll talk about the AFROTC in college. Depending on whether you're doing your GMC or Professional Officer course, the hours can vary. It's a piece of cake to just join the program, but what is important is doing well. You should try and stand out (in a good way) among your peers and leaders. This is also important if you're trying to get a rated job (CSO, Pilot, Remoted Aircraft pilot etc). I know some cadets that participate in frats but they're not the Greek ones, they're usually the professional ones. If you do go to party, don't do drugs because you will get in huge trouble if your detachment catches you. Also try and keep common sense, so if you have PT( Physical Training) the next day, please don't show up with a hangover or drunk.
+Katurian Katurian yeah I'm a college freshman. Already enrolled in ROTC and been to a bunch of PT sessions and stuff like that. I appreciate your imput
+Bob “bassmaster3145” Saget oh I almost forgot, try to do well so you can attend field training during the summer after your Sophomore year(before junior year starts) and try to do well there! It's in Mississippi.
+Codi Norman It's a lot of paperwork and a lot like MEPS. Sit down, move, get in line, sign this, do that, sit back down, march here, sign more stuff. etc.
Firstly thanks for the videos, they really help out. I've been considering joining the Airforce for some time, and with the help of videos it's been made a lot easier, and I would like to ask a question if I could. If you are sick like have the flu does it take days away from your leave?
try hard gameing If you get sick and can't come to work, you'll have to go to the hospital and get basically excused from work and get put on "quarters". This won't take away from your leave days.
WildBlueYonder I just watched your packing video for BMT and had a quick question. You said something about having/wanting your car at tech school to bring your car keys, and you said you would need the key chain? Why do we need the key chain, and how do you get your car to tech school? Also is there a point in having your car at tech school or are you going to be too busy to even use the car or go somewhere?
After I graduate BMT you said that my family can bring me a small bag with my laptop in it? I was wondering if I could bring my PlayStation or something else
+ladypink706 Yes, but it can be difficult in the state of the AF right now. We're constantly downsizing, so we'd actually NEED you to be active duty for you to have a good shot
ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. Certain colleges around the country provide ROTC programs. The program is designed to train cadets on basic military customs and courtesies, leadership, and military basic training. ROTC can provide scholarships to those who are accepted. If accepted, your college will be paid for and upon graduation you will commission into your respective branch. (Army ROTC goes into the Army, Air Force into the Air Force, etc.). In order to commission, you will attend OCS, or Officer Candidate School. This is also referred to as OTS, or Officer Training School. At completion of that, you will be a commissioned officer.
Hey WILDBLUEYONDER! I was wondering how much pt do you do at pt daily? Like how far do you run per day? And what would happen if i passed all of my pt at bmt, but i failed the mile? Just wondering because im gonna join the Air Force in 2 years after high school, and im a TERRIBLE runner. :-/
+Antonio Talavera We don't have to do PT daily once you're active duty. You can work out as much or little as you want. UNLESS you fail a PT test OR if your Squadron requires everyone to do monthly PT days.. At BMT you have to pass all parts of the PT test. If you don't pass one portion, then you'll typically be given a second chance to pass it. If you fail again, then you'll be taken from your flight and put into the "get fit" program. When you're in this, they'll train you to improve your PT score so you can pass

Hope this doesn't sound too "Ate up", but I guess I was, just a little bit ! 😁
BTW, is Fridays still there ?
I think the missiles are still there though.
I can't believe how much that gym has changed. I was the base photographer at Minot from 1997-2000. It was a great assignment and I miss it sometimes.
hey man I leave for basic Oct 6th! I can't wait join, This sure does prove the fact that AF has some of the best bases in the world. excited to get my career started.
Was it cold since you went in the winter?...
The gym has changed a lot since I left in '05. Thanks for the tour!
I grew up on this base, and I learned to swim in that very pool
Watching these videos is revisiting home for me

Watch Kyle Gott. He explains in one of his videos about saving and spending money! Him and Wildblueyonder are the only AF vids I watch so far haha
Stationed at Minot AFB in late 1960’s.
At that time
One basketball court

Kevin Jean Jacques All ears! Thanks for watching
@@WildBlueYonder We never got to see his question :(
pretty awsome gym.
I’ve always heard that the Air Force has the nicest facilities. But I didn’t think they would be THAT nice.

I know you're not in it, but can you make a video explaining ROTC and being an officer?
What would you like to know about ROTC? I can answer a few of your questions.
+Katurian Katurian so I'm a freshman who's in it currently, and I have always wanted to join a college frat and have the college experience. I want to at least do a little partying, but I'm worried it'll interfere with ROTC

Hey man, you said they have classes for Martial Arts. Are they open to anyone to sign up for?
+Rj Emerson Yes sir anyone can sign up who's in the military or the dependents of anyone in the military
Wait what about boxing?
Could you do a video about the various medical appointments that you go to in zero week? Is it like MEPS?
+Codi Norman It's a lot of paperwork and a lot like MEPS. Sit down, move, get in line, sign this, do that, sit back down, march here, sign more stuff. etc.
Great vid, looking forward to Minot. I was curious do the dorms have decent internet available?
Grenthyn The dorms don't have free internet. You'll have to have internet contracted to you by any ISP

Justin Rodriguez Yes

I'm supposed to leave for basic in January and I'm going to see my official contract tomorrow
Good luck!
Thanks man
can you go from reserve air force to active duty air force?
+ladypink706 Yes, but it can be difficult in the state of the AF right now. We're constantly downsizing, so we'd actually NEED you to be active duty for you to have a good shot
so what happens after you serve the amount of years you were suppose to do ? you just leave ?
You can either separate from the service or re-enlist for more time
You can either separate from the service or re-enlist for more time
