    I've had really good customer relations with EVERY TS that I've dealt with, except in one incident. On that occasion I purchased 40 chicks that were represented to be broiler leghorn cross, when in fact they were leghorns pullets. If I had known that they were legorns I would not have purchased them as I was looking for a meat bird. In any case, I blame the hatchery, not the TS store. In any case, except for paying for extra feed, the chicks found good homes, which meant more than everything to me,

    I know there are a lot of people out there who have bought lots and lots of poles like these, and I have bought lots over the years. It is common knowledge, if you have bought any in the past, that the measurement they sell them at is the size of the bottom (the larger end). This is standard at most lumber yards. Its been this way for the 30+ years I have been buying poles like these. If you find an advertised 6in diameter pole and its 6in on top, you really lucked out. :)

      @bobbyhempel1513 3 роки тому

      He's obviously not too bright or he was intentionally buying the wrong thing so that he could complain about it to rip off tractor supply. Even though the 4x8s weren't 4x8s they were only 3x8s that one inch extra diameter isn't going to make a difference when it comes to making a cattle fence so there is no point in him buying them in the first place.

    No matter where you go, you will find the posts are usually listed as a size range, such as 3-4, 4-5, 6-7....and the posts are always on the small size of the range. My advice, don't play around with BS retailers, go to your county farmer's co-op and get your posts. In my experience, they don't play games.....a 6" post is 6", and the quality is far better than at retailers. I just finished installing 35 6" posts and had ZERO reject posts out of the bundle I bought (33 posts) plus 2 additional. Not only were there no rejects, every single post was dead straight, at least 96" long, and solid. They were $1/post more than at other retailers, but well worth it to get quality. If you go to retailers, you might as well expect you are going to be sacrificing the minute you go through the door.

    Hell if a 3-3.5" post will do go to Lowe's and get some landscape timbers. They are treated 3-3.5" 8' posts thats only $4/ea. The only difference is they have two flat sides.

    • @tnoel374
      @tnoel374  6 років тому +1

      Hi Allen thanks for your comment. But those Lowe's post are not heavy enough for this type of fencing.

    • @ifyoutip
      @ifyoutip 6 років тому

      As a professional in the business, I see people use landscape timbers for fence posts all the time. Because of my job I have been in lots of different treating plants. But they are not treated with the same chemical nor the same way. A fence post is one of the few things that can be legally treated in CCA. Fence posts are air dried and treated after they are dried enough and easily retain .40 or .60 per C.f.. The landscape timbers are often inferior wood ( not southern yellow pine) treated when wet with MCA or ACQ. They are treated to refusal and often retain next to no chemical. So they often have only a one year warranty against rot or decay.

    Standardized lumber manuf practices. Do you have a hissy fit because "2x4"s are 3-1/2x1-1/2?
    1/2" plywood is 15/16"
    Every 15 sheets at the mill they get a freebie on us.

    When we fenced our 20 acres, I complained about the size of the 4"x8' round posts. It wasn't Tractor Supply, but we were told 4" is up to 4". 5" is between 4 and 5". And 6" is between 5 and 6". If it is that number or above it is. Considered the next size up. That's B.S. And they almost all rotted out by 10 years. I have been replacing everything with used railroad ties. Good luck with your fence. I personally just got home from work and I'm heading out to do fence work of my own.

    I tried to buy a bag of rolled oats yesterday at Tractor Supply.
    I told the associate, that I asked for help, that the last bag that I got there was not rolled at all, that the rolls were set so loose the grain had gone through the rolls untouched.
    He told me that a bag that he was trying to sell was definitely rolled and that he would open the corner of the bag to prove that to me.
    Guess what, same old end to that story. The so-called rolled oats showed no sign whatsoever of having gone through rolls.
    I bought a bag of rolled oats that were actually rolled at a different feed store and got them for less..
    Not sure why they feel that they need to lie to people, but I do know that I will be doing my shopping elsewhere after that.

    Very good advice. If they load them for you, be careful because their employees will load whatever on your truck. During my fencing project last year I bought several bundles of the 4"x8' posts. Sometimes you get some bad ones. The worst I got is when I purchased them loose in the winter and the local TSC had not gotten a shipment in. Other customers had left all the bad tiny posts. It was late at night and I should have driven to a different TSC, but I needed them the next day to continue working. My best advice is if you have a large project ask to see the posts before you purchase them, and as you said walk away or negotiate something if they aren't good quality. I have found that some TSC stores have larger supplies of fencing materials and because they turnover stock faster the quality of what they have in stock is usually much higher. So sometimes the extra 30 minute drive is worth my time and gas to get better quality posts and fence.

      EpicMale EpicMale silly old man. If it is cut into a 2x4 it is milled I am sure you know lumber does not grow where the trunk and limbs are 2x4 . Nothing personal but you may want to go back to grade school.

      You just demonstrated that you don't know the difference between sawed lumber and milled lumber. Maybe you should google terms before you stick another foot in your mouth. You see, the saw leaves lumber rather rough and less than exact. You have to run it through a planer to MILL it. Sheesh... Get back to me after you've felled, sawed, and milled a few hundred thousand board feet of lumber.

      0090steve the closest one we have in our area is either 130 miles south of us in Morganton NC or 120 miles north in va. I live about 20 miles down the road from toms farm and I just went to the one in Morganton 2 weeks ago and it is the best store I’ve ever been in in my life buddy. It is fantastic!!!! Only place I’ve ever seen that I can guy anything from a 53hp tractor, to jeans, to a couch all in one trip and I don’t know how they sell stuff as cheap as they do but it just shows ya that tsc and all the other places are ripping us off everyday we walk thru their doors!!!! I’m gonna drive 130 miles each way now instead of 10 miles for tsc, tsc will not get another dime from me. St least the one Tom went to did the right thing, the one close to me would have just laughed at me for trying to get what I paid for, thieving bastards!!!!!!

    It’s Tractor supply and the post supplier. They TS buyers know darn well what’s happening somebodies pocketing the money. If that’s not exactly what’s going on it’s the post supplier scamming TS.

      This is not milled lumber. These are cut trees, debarked, cut to length, sorted for diameter, and pressure treated. Milled lumber isn't tapered like a post. The measurement they are sold by is measured at the base, so the tip will be smaller. However, it is most likely that TS supplier slipped a mislabeled pallet or two past them. Do that for dozens of stores and the supplier makes a substantially higher profit. That is why you notify the retailer when they have a problem with their product. It helps them keep their customers happy and helps them avoid losing money.

    Just paid $13.00 a piece for 12 of those 6" posts at tractor supply. Customer paid me to cut them in half, sand them, spar varnish them, and install them as a faux dock picket fence, with one inch rope slung between them. (The guy loves the beach) he lives in a ranch in the suburbs. Not bad, except every day I had them in my dry garage they'd get more checks ( cracks) keep them moist I guess.

      I'd think you'd want them rough, maybe even distress them a bit. The docks and piers I've been on sure never saw any sandpaper. But the one who pays is the one who says.

I'm all for being treated fairly as a consumer and think we all should pay attention to what we are buying but not saying your doing this BUT I know a lot of people who just all the time "there out to get me" or "were all getting screwed buy these company's " did you check the rest of the bundles? Were they wrong? Sounds like a simple (mislabel) to me. Anyway I like your channel and what your doin just a simple observation..... have a great day and thanks !!!!
