This very practical test procedure is very clear and concise. Well explained and effective. I especially appreciated the concept of continuing testing all main parts if a fuse is found bad. As in all electrical work employing fuses or breakers, there was most likely a reason (failure of a main part such as condenser, diode or transformer) for the trip or blown fuse. Very well done. Thank you!
Hi there. I'm a retired Maintenance Mechanical Supervior, with limited knowledge in Electrical. Do have an issue with my Lg microwave Oven as it's not heating. Prefer to refer to an Experienced Technician in Rectifying Microwaves. However, watching your video clip, I'm deeply impressed with your knowledge and the ability to pinpoint and narrate the issue as a Instructor, in as much anyone with limited knowledge of the English language could understand you. Well Done ! Keep Going. God Bless. 😊
Well done and thank you for your effort and knowledge you share. Repairing a micro and with your instructions I found the fault , a faulty capacitor. 👍
Very, very good perfect explanation sir,but what should be the resistance of a good magnetron,in low resistance mode, continuity ok,but should check resistance also,is n't. thankyou very much 😊
Excellent video. My Panasonic inverter Microwave blows fuse while sitting idle. Sometimes after one hour and sometimes after one or few days while door stays closed. I checked all parts are ok and the microwave works good while fuse is not blown. Please give your comments. Thanks,
Thank you Ravi Fix for the informative tutorial. I checked every thing in my LG microwave oven using a multimeter. These are my observations. I used continuity testing. Diode is OK, HV capacitor is OK, all the fuses are OK including the thermal fuse. Magnetron is OK. Door switches are OK. HV transformer is OK except for (I am not sure) the high voltage terminal connected to the HV fuse going to the HV capacitor. There was not reading or a beep at this terminal. Microwave oven operates, but it does not heat up the food. I also cleared the front dial. What seems to be the problem? Thank you for your input.
I just went through Ravi’s video and followed every step. Turns out that my problem was the high voltage 0.9A fuse had blown. I could immediately tell because that fuse has a spring inside and the spring wire was broken with the spring no longer stretched inside the fuse. Everything else tested okay. I’ve ordered replacement fuses from Amazon. A $0.50 fix. Thanks Ravi.
Good Info but one major problem most commonly is the switches connected with the door as these are most likely get shorted due to mishandling, not cleaning or too much water evaporation inside. Please also share some insight as the glass fuse inside the microwave gets easily burnt due to such issues.
Sir,if check only continuity of transformer,if it's short it also give beep, check resistance in 200ohm, and and other checking perfect ok my dearest brother,I know your language is Malayalam, you are very good 👍
Awesome video. I found the capacitor to be bad on mine, shorted between the two terminals. Fuse blew and monitor switch was recommended (per a sticker on the inside) to be replaced with the fuse, so that'll be replaced also.
Thank you for the reply. I guess you are right. I suspect that the thermal fuse and the line fuse blew. rather than the capacitor. I will attempt to fix it myself. My first step is to identify the types of fuses and buy them cheaply. If after replacing the fuses it still blows then i will have to change my capacitor etc. for now I just want to confirm that any 20 amp 250v ceramic slow burn line fuse of the same dimension can work?
Model MG7040NWR, microwave 1350w, Grill 1250w, conversation combination 2650w, originally in ac income supply 12A 250vac. Original fuse white type but now available glass type in market is glass type fuse suitable for above mention. Give suggestions thanks..
Good day Mr Ravi. I have the sharp microwave old model is R-2V15. i found the problem that the fuse was always blown off after replace it due the HV diode has shorted, the. Part number is. HVR-1X4 My question is. Can I do replacement .The faulty dioda with the part number is HVR-1X3 since I very difficulty to find the faulty part number . Your reply is much appreciated thanks
Hi Ravi, Thanks for the video was really informative. I have a microwave which have blown fuse. Tried replacing and running it and blew the fuse as soon as tried to run it. I checked all the other components and could not find any fault with any components. The only thing is I can't find another high voltage fuse between transformer and capacitor. Also when testing the capacitor, do I have to remove the diode and resistor which is attached to the capacitor.
I had the same issue. Fuse blew instantly, repeatedly. I tested everything, with the help of the video. There was no fuse between the transformer and the capacitor on mine, either. Then, I unplugged everything from just one terminal on the capacitor and found my capacitor to be shorted between the terminals... which is bad. I did not remove the diode (no resistor on mine) from the capacitor, as that was the side with more items plugged in. I left all connections on one terminal, removed the capacitor from the microwave, and freed up one terminal on the capacitor free of any connections. Then, I used the flux capacitor, and I went back to the future... ok, just kidding. I then ordered a capacitor, because I need my microwave now, not later/future. I'm not going back to the future, I am staying here with my microwave and its new capacitor.😂
@@copperkeyracing6167 in my case it was actually the magnetron that was blown , however I did not know how to test it. Once replaced that working all good .
Are all magnetrons standard in power, voltages, watts and ohms, etc., and can be used as replacements in any microwave oven? I'm trying to repair my microwave oven which is just about 2 years old, and the magnetron has stopped working. It's one of those that has a static (hot) plate - not the rotating kind. Can I use a magnetron from a rotating plate microwave oven to repair mine?
Nice safe start ... then safe fail by using dead short on capacitor. Damage cap & tool and create explosion risk !!! Use a large resistor for a few minutes then check the voltage. Then do it again. Then don't die ; )
Sirji, I have GEC microwave table top. While plugging current does not flow and front panel no light. I have checked with multimeter transformer. magnatron, capacitor, diaod, fuse termostate, all ok. I have also checked main cable,it is OK.I have not checked PCB and it is bit complicated. Appreciate if you could response. I am in CHICAgo, USA and here it is 120V.
Hi, Do all microwave use 15-20amp ceramic line fuse? i have a sharp carousel microwave that uses a 20 amp. It blew when I attempted to cook rice in it. It can been over 1 year. Can I buy any 20 amp ceramic fuse to replace it? Thanks
Sir, I have a LG CONVECTION Microwave I think it takes high current when switching on immediately ac fuse glow but it microtone ok capacitor on test multimeter seen ok diode test with battery it ok what to do. Give suggestion. Thanks
first of all if it is not possible to find something, highly recommend please get professional person assistance. Check for corrosion or oxidized on wire connection. Duble check transformer, Make sure you have replaced right amperage fuse.
you did mention very precisely how the red and black lead to placed to check continuity. in some parts you place right leas on right and in some parte red lead put on left and vice e versa. do make it clear to the viewers.
I have clearly mentioned in the video that we need a bit higher voltage source to check this diode. Because due to high resistance in the diode, it has a voltage drop. If you use small voltage source like AAA battery, you will not get any reading. Because entire voltage drop in the diode. Hope you understand.
The diode is used as part of the voltage doubler, not solely as a means of discharging the capacitor. Also, you did not explain how to test this diode, which is a high voltage diode, and cant normally be tested in the usual way like a lower voltage diode. You need a higher test voltage to forward bias the diode while testing. Hope this is helpful...
Peace be upon you, teacher. I want to ask you about the microwave does not heat up. I changed the fuse, changed the diode, and checked the capacitor, it was good. I checked the micromagnet, it was good. I said, maybe the problem is from the transformer, but the transformer when measured it looks good, but when you run the files inside it, it gets hot and when the transformer watts increases. Coming out of smoke and smell
Hi Ravi. My microwave is not working ( only grill is working , not microwave ). The two fuses are OK. I was in doubt with the HV diode, i bought a New diode but nothing. All misures on the capacitor, the magnetron, the HV transformer are OK like your method. I rally dont understand what is wrong with this microwave!!!!
This could be faulty high voltage capacitor. We can mesure it with multimeter if only shorted. But open circuit no any mesurement for normal multimeter. Try to mesure the capacitance with a good multimeter which support for it. Otherwise if it is not expensive for you just replace the capacitor.
Can i measure the capacitance of capacitor with a normal multimeter ? My multimeter has capacitance measurement. What capacitance should i read? I suspect on capacitor because no electric dishange was when shorted the capacitor

If same amperage doesn't matter glass or ceramic. Ceramic fuses are more safer when it blow. Glass fuses are harmful when it blow.

does all transformer had soldier pont on top edge?
Hi. I have a microwave . its blast 5kv fuse some time . all components are ok and fine conditions
Check all the components as described in the video.
what if soldier point is not there on transformer then ow to check?
for top fuse you put red wire point of multimeter on left and for bottom fuse you put red wire on right. what if is vice versa? is it dangerous?

Nice
I have done all the checks and every component passed but the microwave is still not heating. What could it be?

May be bad buzzer or some microwaves have option to turn off the beep. Read your user manual.
