Why is “Is Ace Combat realistic” even a valid question?. Everyone should know just instinctively that it’s not remotely realistic. Don’t need to be a pilot to know that.
Its not a matter of it being realistic. We all know it isn't, but we want to know how realistic are SOME of the features? As we see here, they got the cockpit details pretty good as well as some of the mechanical functions.
More like the presentation being somewhat real. Ace Combat isn't realistic, but it aesthetically and stylistically is. Even the fictional aircraft look like something that could fly.
Because we are all not pilots and it looks highly well done and entertaining. I guess deep down we want it to be all run and gun like it's a video game in real life. " Clear to engage, they are probably hostiles.". And.. that's how we end up on the headline of BBC..

I absolutely love the AC games and have played them for years but I’m struggling to believe that there’s actually people out the who think it’s realistic, I mean missiles magically reappearing on the pylons in mid flight is a bit of a give away for a start, never mind having to fly through tunnels and shoot down gigantic flying air bases 🤣🤣
@@B-A-L the tunnels are kind of a requirement for an AC title now. If Ace Combat 8 doesn't have at least one tunnel you have to fly through, it'll feel like it's missing something. Same goes for the absolute ridiculous scale of the superweapons. Stonehenge has to be the most realistic of the superweapons in the AC universe, though. Chandelier, SOLG and Excalibur, not a chance. Arsenal Birds and Arkbird, slightly more likely but not very. Megalith and Fortress Intolerance are pushing closer to plausible, but impractical. Stonehenge has a lot of practicality in the form of redundancy (8 combination gunpowder/electromagnetic launchers) and proven technology.

@@werewolfnar Yep. And actually It was first appeared in AC4 trailer, "A Strange Real World". But the name of the world wasn't official until dev team of AC7 tweeted "Welcome back to strangereal". Also based on ACF channel, Strange real world map wasn't fully developed before AC5. The map in AC4 was a different world as it's drawn on its guide book. But They made it into an official strange real world map that we all know today which is revisited in AC7.
Here in the UK I used to do a job that brought me into contact with a fair few USAF pilots flying out of Lakenheath & Mildenhall. I got drawn into a conversation with one of them because AC7 had just come out and he'd overheard myself and his 14 year old son talking about the game. Obviously as a pilot IRL he was unimpressed and the best way I could explain it to him was: It's not what jets are like, but it is what you WANT them to be like when you're six.
It's Strangereal, man. Where at times, we pull out both realistic & semi-realistic values so the audience can relate better, but every other time we throw it out so you can feel like better than normal physics-restricted pilots! You know, like Hollywood!
Which leads to another question to the storyline. If we are capable to go to another solar system with an earth like planet which likely requires way better technology. Why did they take F-16’s there and not use some new super futuristic jet?
I lost it when he said, “What is going on with this speed?” I wonder what’s his reaction will be if he hears about F-15 pulling 30 Gs in the same game.
@@anotherHelldiver G's is basically force of gravity, also known as G-force, caused by speed and movement. Your body is constantly working against gravity and momentum at all times; you just aren't aware of this in your normal day to day life. 1G is earth's gravity, which is what our biology designed itself over 600+ million years to deal with. .6G is moon gravity. 9Gs is what a fighter pilot can generally expect to endure during a high intensity sortie (or the maximum limit a peak performance human can tolerate, I can't remember), and requires a lot of physical fitness to withstand and not black out in the cockpit (which would effectively be a death sentence). 30Gs is the sun's gravity, and would simply overpower your heart and force your blood to wherever gravity is going to pull it, even in reverse in your veins. Best not to think about the implications.
The clouds affecting radar is kinda like a safe zone, since this game has crazy Missile tracking. Not to mention, this was the first game they introduced clouds
In game wise it has one of the lowest carry capacities and has poor performance compared to its peers (it would've had one of the best part compatibility with parts but it's only useful in MP due to more available customizations there) so often novice players would ditch that as soon as better craft was available
@@jamielonsdale3018 the all moving tail would help but the lack of vectored thrust hurts. Then again if you're going to consider those PSMs then the Draken Mig 21 and F8 can all do those as well.
This was a good watch. I hope he comes back and does more, because this isn't even as crazy or unrealistic as Ace Combat gets. I'd love to see his reaction to [REDACTED] or [SPOILERS]. "How does a fighter jet carry 80 missiles?" is only the tip of the iceberg.
@LV5 "It's the future" Year in game: 2019. I get why they did not choose a later year--the jets have existed since the 90s Strangereal time & 2040 is the start of AC3, but c'mon.
"they talk a lot" Ace Combat games give most of the story exposition in flight the (good) games in the series are all set in fictional reality called "Strangereal" where real world aircraft take part in fictional nations conflicts, there are also giant flying fortresses and Star Wars-esque canyon runs. As a game it is incredibly fun, as a simulator it's a joke. But we play games to have fun so in that regard it's great. Without those huge missile counts and "reloading" the game would be a total slog requiring constant re-arms at base or constant gun use which would be a pain with how the game plays. Maybe check out Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, it takes place in our world but is far more Call of Duty in the sky than 7.
Ace Combat Infinity takes place in our world, but is a bit different in that what happened in Strangereal happened to our world. Giant asteroid Ulysses hits us in the 90's, and it goes off from there.

Yeah, i don't get why people would believe that either...
Its not a matter of it being realistic. We all know it isn't, but we want to know how realistic are SOME of the features? As we see here, they got the cockpit details pretty good as well as some of the mechanical functions.
They must be trolling
More like the presentation being somewhat real. Ace Combat isn't realistic, but it aesthetically and stylistically is. Even the fictional aircraft look like something that could fly.
Because we are all not pilots and it looks highly well done and entertaining. I guess deep down we want it to be all run and gun like it's a video game in real life.

Oh God. He's going to have an aneurysm.
The tunnels are the only thing I hate about the AC games!
When i was 8 years old playing AC5, i thought it was lol. But I was 8.

It's called StrangeReal for a reason.
The guy expects anything with a plane to be real. But hey I geuss snipers...mean...pilots...expect that from fantasy.
If you're curious about the story then I'll give a quick backdrop for context - This is a follow on game
The world, jokingly called StrangeReal by fans, suffered major damage from a meteor shower pelting the planet killing millions
The nations eventually put together to make an anti-orbital cannon system called The Stonehenge to defend against the meteor showers
After the storm passed 1 nation seized Stonehenge and used Airbursting shells to destroy any aircraft above certain altitudes as a strategic weapon and started a war to seize resources
There was then a war to destroy Stonehenge and the huge satellite laser plane called the Ark Bird - That was the War 10 years ago mentioned
other than that - Any mention of Belka or Belkans - Magic level tech from a nation that tried world domination, failed, nuked itself and swore vengeance and has been causing wars by Proxy ever since
"Belka did nothing wrong" lol
All you need to know is that Bella did it
Edit: Belka* Stupid autocorrect...

@@anotherHelldiver I'm not aware of that.

As a game it is incredibly fun, as a simulator it's a joke. But we play games to have fun so in that regard it's great.
