Hat's off to the engineers who designed that robotic assembly plant and the millwrights who obviously keep it maintained. Totally impressive!
the price tags on those trucks are impressive too.
You mean programmers and engineers.
electricians too
2020 Chevrolet Silverado Butt ugly Truck of the year ! Hats off to the design engineers for this abortion !
Ya mean the robots took the humans jobs
Those are some nice rear axles you guys are putting in there! Thanks for keeping me employed!! Love GM! Been a Chevy fan all my life!
I was too, till I started working on em
I wish the Quality was there
I prefer GMC over Chevys, but as of lately I would say Ford and Toyota is the way to go.
@@spicyrensgaming6075 gmc and Chevy are basically the same frame, the Sierra and silverado use the same frame so do the Acadias and canyons
so you have one of these trucks
This video makes me want to buy a GM truck, this will actually be my first. Hopefully I can get a Carthartt edition or AT4. Made in 🇺🇸 I love it.
Be careful a lot of them are made in Mexico..
They aren't built like they used to be. I bought a brand new 2007 extended cab 4x4 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 - nothing but trouble since day one. I'm only at 107k miles right now and have already replaced the rear differential and transmission. Engine should be failing any day now, and transfer case has a loud clunk on a 1-2 upshift - noise started at 2k miles and has steadily become louder as the years go by. Brakes were replaced 5x under warranty for pulsation, ball joints didn't even make it to 40k miles, and engine started burning oil at 50k miles. Nothing built today is any good anymore. We still own a '86 Grand Marquis with 275k miles on the ORIGINAL driveline from front to back. Even still has the original in-tank electric fuel pump! There's nothing built this good anymore, unfortunately.
Thanks to these hard-working Americans for their attention to detail and pride... I honestly don't mind paying a little extra for a quality product made here in the U.S. 🇺🇸
@Robert Them too... made in China
I must love trucks. I can’t believe I jus sat here and used up 11 minutes of my life watching truck assembly lol
i use to work for Fisher Body in here in Michigan its awesome watching these robots, and the robots don't talk back to the foreman either.
Good. Keep buying these gmc, chevy junk boxes.
@@Bart12349 And you keep buying your Ford/Ram junk boxes.
@@andybub45 face it, gm quality as of 2020 is 👎🏽👎🏽
Watching these Silverados being built with machines, it was suddenly so clear. The machine would never stop. It would never leave him. It would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would die to protect him. Of all the would-be workers who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine was the only one that measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.

As a detailer at a Chevrolet dealership I can tell you now, they need to step up their paint game. We get them off the trucks with swirls, air bubbles and other debris under the clearcoat/paint.
Hey My man's, what does a detailer do?
That "made in Mexico" quality.
Joe trucks made in Mexico are better and they have more sportier options from factory to
yeah, you better let the big shots know at the plants so they can address the issue for sure if GM wants to stay competative.
Boostedart last time I checked Chevys have worse QC than ever
My 1994 Silverado had a bit over 586 thousand on the odometer when a head gasket let go. I took one look at the new models and have decided that for the price they want I can do a complete restoration, have $40,000 left and have another 25 years to think about what I should spend it on.
Yeah, but these new trucks are so magnificent and you only live once, lighten up and go buy one! I did!
@@michaelcarley7016 If I could find an extended cab short box 2wd light duty 3/4 ton with a turbo diesel in it then I might do that. Only 1% of the 1994 production run has the configuration I've got, maybe I'll hang on to it for a bit.

Great trucks; I cannot imagine the time it takes to set up all of those robots and coordinate all that assembly but it is impressive!!
Took a tour of the Oshawa truck assembly 30 years ago. What a change has taken place in these plants
Lll
just bought one of these...cool to see where it was built and the people who work there
So this is how and where my High Country was built, thank you!
Congrats to Marlon on his new Chevy. He writes, "It was because of you guys that me and my wife decided to get a 2021 Chevy Silverado LT Z71 Trail Boss (with the 6.2L of course). I get the fact that there are other trucks out there with more technology, and considered more luxurious, but for me and my family this truck ticked enough boxes to fit perfect in our driveway. Thank you once again fellas, and keep the great content coming."
You are most welcome, that's one badass midnight black Silverado.
I could watch these videos all day long!
Yea it's amazing seeing 64 year old guys pack up items for shipping. Thanks union for never needing any advancement
@Tom Gill Chevrolet....
Yeahhhhh , cuz it's sooooo dreamy watching Corporate automate jobs away from Americans while you sit in your bonded leather office chair watching these stupid videos and abetting these corporate assholes in hijacking Americans into paying almost 100K for a robot built POS truck thats only worth 20 K at best . Of course Americans are also complicit in their own stupidity and demise so they reap what they have sown upon themselves .
i use to work for Fisher Body in Michigan, i miss the people not the work.

Great job to the skilled trades that built this plant. Great job Lesco .
Would love to see footage of them getting built in the 60s and 70s with out any of the automaton
Grandpa had a 77 Silverado. You couldn’t kill that truck. Best built back then.
@@WClark-lp9vc Silverado was a trim level up until the 1999 model year. Before that, Chevy’s full size trucks were the C/K series. C designating 2WD, and K designating 4WD.

Educational and appreciation to all who engineer and design all the parts and pieces of components and the inner workings of the assembly plants (amazing how many robots are at work or assist in the movement of components for us humans 👍; obviously easier than it was 40, 70 or 100 years ago). Appreciate all the workers including those checking all the imperfections and such. I own a 2020 Chevy HD, and so thanks for sharing this. Buy North American 🇺🇸 🇨🇦.
My 2003 GMC 2500 HD that several years ago paid close to $6k for at 102k miles drives and performs beautifully. Think I will keep it.

Incredible step by step including all the people that work on and buff out little detalles or touch up. And even making sure the tail gate does what it’s sapposed to do the fifth time as it’s sapposed to the first time :). Wow!
Man, even though this is a Chevy plant, Henry would be amazed at how far his ideas on assembly have come.
It's amazing how far technology has come.
35 years ago the union demanded a guy get paid $18 an hour to sweep floors. I’m so glad it worked out for the robots.
And the robot demands nothing.
@To the point. Which means they actually demanded more and settled for less...
We just purchased a new 2020 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali, fully loaded. It is a wonderful machine. Thank you to the people in this video. Mark

For all the comments about the robots, over 4000 people work in that plant. There's a bunch of trim work you don't see. The robots are doing the dangerous time consuming work...welding, painting, and sealing.

Love my 2019 Trail Boss. Nice to see where it was born.
Well it's really nice to see a bunch of hard working Americans in a very well done video , instead of some lying politician who we see enough of on the news every night. But GM officials need to take a look at this video and say why didn't we pay for the advertising time that was going to be squeezed into this video, instead of letting ford sneak in there as they did. Makes me wish Dodge would have bought the time.
I retired from the plant in Moraine Ohio. This brings back memories.
I work at this plant.... we have over 3,400 workers. In the summer almost 4000

There should be over 20,000 workers no robots
Boeing has robots too.
My hat’s off to the guys who assemble the HD’s I had a ‘17 Z06 Vette and now a late ‘17 2500HD and the build quality is night and day!!! The truck is phenomenal whereas the Vette was riddled with sloppy defects!!! I’m still not too sure of the new looks of the HD’s though, wish they’d gone with the 1500 front end!!!
Alexander... the HDs are not built at this plant. They are built in flint, Mi
Funny, they're all into robots saving money yet in the last 30 yrs, an average domestic made vehicle has gone from 1/3 of a family's yearly income cost to half of a family's yearly income cost. Maybe if the GM wanted to save more they should robotize the board of directors and CEO. Then they would truly save millions.
@Wypipo Trippin right, in addition to that, a lot more safety and environmental technology is now required than it was 30 years ago.
a new truck these days lasts way longer and is much more reliable than 30 years ago. It has way more power, more comfortable, and FAR far safer. I'd say that's worth it but you do have a point, what does all that matter if the average person can't afford it?
Fire all execs who smuggled out robots to take care of their wives while they dick around upstairs. Its a Misapropriation of company property and that shit has to stop
that's true of all the manufacturers, not just GM, plus the cost of raw materials, and all the required safety equipment costs a fortune.....
Yea just to drive 50000 miles and start worrying about minor shit to fix
Glad to see them made in the USA. My 2003 Sierra is still rolling along!
Drive very still &slow - hit something and it's deadly for you crash testing proves it ( GM found that out with the BOOMER square body the gas tank explodes on contact )and they kept building the '73 to '86 never improving a thing
This was one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. Automation at it's best. Amazing at the thought that had to go into building this state of the art automotive plant.

GMC Sierra, the best looking truck on the road.
Thanks for the video. How insightful. I would love a detailed explanation of what everyone is doing, what kind of primers, paints etc.
Paint is Axalta.
And if you seen the orange peel on new cars. This video explains why.
@@leviwoodring6101 I have owned several vehicles over the years that had orange peel paint texture. At first I was upset but after 200000 miles on two.... one was a Toyota forerunner and the other high mileage was a Tahoe. Anyway the orange peel seemed to hold up to chips and overall aging better than some of the vehicles that had perfect paint surfaces. I’m wondering if there is a scientific explanation.
@@bret9741 Orange peel is when too much paint is applied, and the surface layer dries before the paint can level. That's why it holds up better. The paint is thicker, but it looks worse.

@@coltonjacobs5383 I assume you mean "terrible" quality wise versus personal taste. My experiences have been good overall. I've owned two GM vehicles that I consider to have design flaws. Think they meant the recall because of robots doing the work!!! How many recalls did we have when people made cars, hardly any!!!
Coming from some one who works for gm and has access to the gm recalls they come out with little to no recalls and if they are its for petty stuff like the wrong manual in the car. Stick to your ford.

No humans. All I could think about was SKYNET.
Its coming in fast
Soon. In more industries than you think. They are working on replacing simple repetitive labor jobs as fast as possible. Even McDonalds.
Don't let the video fool you. I live in Fort Wayne and like everyone else in northeast Indiana, I know several people that are or have retired from the GM truck assembly plant. They aren't just assembled here. They are on the road everywhere here. It's not the same place anymore though. Since the financial crisis, it's temps with next to no chance of being hired in or gettng benefits replacing the old guard as they retire.
I saw plenty of humans. I guess you didn't watch the video.
UAW cost humans their job with the ridiculous demands and wages. The saddest part of it is the individuals that lost their jobs to robots never believed it would or could happen because they were stupid enough to believe in unions. Unions is what has destroyed a lot of manufacturing jobs
Lovely to see 80’s revived.
80s revived? I have a 82. less rust than a 02. 40 year old truck. you see a 2010 in the scrap heep before one of these
love your channel so much so many awesome cars and models🙂🙂🙂
Just took delivery of a beautiful new Loaded 2020 pearl white 6.2L Silverado LTZ beast...I love this thing! This video made it interesting.... What's even more interesting (and ironic as well) is that I build Ford f-150s here in Dearborn Mi. I chose the Chevy because I work in the final area and drive f-150s all the time in the dyno testing booth. Honestly I prefer the Silverado's looks over the F-150 anyway, besides Ford making the f-150s a bit too expensive even for us the ones who build them- the new 2021 exterior design isn't much different from the one it's replacing. I drove them both, but hands down I prefer the Silverado. The EcoBoost in the Ford is quick, but my 6.2L is rocket monster and serious fun to drive for a pickup.
*GM trucks are still better than the rest - way easier to upkeep and maintain than others*
Too bad they’re fugly and full of girly metrosexual features that aren’t actually needed

I am always more fascinated by the fixtures and the design of them then the actual vehicle assembly. They must rework them every time there's a new design. I wonder how much of the equipment is actually recyclable in a model changeover
Robots are mostly reused. End effectors (what grabs the part) change. Unbolt the old, bolt on the new, upload the new path program.
Had a conversation with a master mechanic for GM. According to him, after the Government bailed out GM, the quality of the vehicles declined. Apparently by a lot. I asked why, and his reply was, "Well how the hell are they gonna the 20 million dollar salary for the CEO every year? They have to do away with some of the quality." That's why I will NEVER buy a new GM vehicle. Fuck that bullshit.
@Mr SunshinesIsn't Ford the only company that _didn't_ need a bailout? And can you provide a source for GM having paid their bailout?

jdslyman that’s because the c/k was built to last. GM is just so much worse than what they used to be
So do humans make the machines that make the machines? Also had to laugh at the Ford ad to start the video!
If you think the robots have stolen jobs you are nuts. Robots are there because some jobs they can do exactly the same and perfect every time, welding and painting being prime examples. The number of people it takes to program and maintain those robots is about the same as the people it used to take to do the actual job.
You have any factual data to add to your statement or is it merely opinion?
Yes the paint looks absolutely horrible and full of orange peel. You have no clue what your talking about. Work in a collision shop and try color matching a vehicle never works. All the paint colors go threw the same pipes to paint robots so you end up with different variations and hues in the paint.
@@armyblouvet54 The paint on new cars has always been orange peel, they don't sand anything, just blast on paint. A robot sprays the exact amount of paint in the exact pattern that it's programmed for, car after car after car. Humans cannot do that. By perfect I don't mean it's a perfect paint job, I just mean it does exactly what the engineers tell it to do.
I own a 72 chev 3/4 ton 4x4. All original. They should take that body style with today technology
I wonder does the factory clunk and bang like my 2017 Silverado transmission?
Right, they need to fire the transmission vendor!!!
I have a 2014 Malibu that does the same crap. It's done it since about 2 days after I bought it. The dealer says that they can't find anything wrong with it. At cruising speed, it'll jolt hard enough to almost put you into the windshield. It doesn't do it just once, but about a dozen times in a row before you can stop on the side if the road and gather yourself. Sad.
A whole new meaning to the word "UGLY"
That guy at 6:53 needs to guide that in more carefully. He’s just letting it swing around banging up the frame’s paint. Places that will rust later on...
spacecadetzack it’s a GM factory? What did you expect? QC is not their specialty
Makes 100% sense now why unemployment and economic output is so dire in midwest. Robots > People with few opportunities to re-train.

An the RST isn't anything more than badges. Seriously. We had one last week we dealer traded for, could not see anything special about it other than the single badge, even the wheels it had another standard LT on the lot had.
Thanks for this video as I recently purchased a SILVERADO RST. Coming from a quality background I was happy to see the many fine women and men that inspected my truck before it left Fort Wayne. I agree with Michael Carley on his engineer comment. Robots don't have issues with ergonomics so as much as I may not like them I understand why they are there.
Amazing👍👍👍
Awesome seeing these great trucks being assembled! Great video!

The video skipped most of the people working on them. There's 4000 people who work in that plant. Also, the trucks are expensive because that's what the market wants.
