Agree 100%. With everything being posted everywhere there has been such a homogenizing of art online. Everyone wants to look like everyone else.. or only produce subjects or use techniques that are popular. The closer they replicate someone else the better. It's all about the views and clicks. It's so boring. I have a habit of doing a search daily on YT to see what has popped up.. so I see everyone's stuff not just what the algorithm feeds me.. and so much of it is the same thing over and over.. or one person will do something and everyone else jumps on the bandwagon and does exactly the same thing. In a month I will see thirty videos you could put side by side and not be able to tell apart. Especially the "top" channels. If I see one more silhouette sunset or "loose floral" that is the same swirls in the same colors I'll scream lol. It's such a breath of fresh air when I find someone who creates their own art, in their own vision. I don't even paint portraits.. nor do I have any interest in doing so.. but your work is so unique it draws me.
Wow, it really shows how different the spaces we inhabit are… I rarely see a silhouette sunset in my feed, and I didn’t even know that “loose florals” were called “loose florals,” I just thought that they were part of the background… I guess it’s because I follow a massive variety of art channels, from very large to very small, and the content I watch skews towards cartoon/anime-esque styles, landscapes, advanced/non-advanced art tips (many of the ones who are geared more towards an audience of those closer to the beginning of their art journey I follow mainly for their personality and fun of their videos, like LavenderTowne), livestreams of art discussions/artwork making, and Sims 4 Stop Motion Builders whose work takes such a Herculean effort to make that those who do make them tend to skew towards high-quality builds, interiors, and unique styles that are relatively easy to tell apart. Although that’s just the artistic section of my feed as I have many more interests, I’ve never had another person explain their feed to me before, and assumed that everyone’s would be as highly personalized/niched as mine and not just linger on the mass-appeal popular content, which I interestingly so rarely see that I only saw the latter as a background element to your other artwork or a cute/cool beginner painting, not really an actual art piece that was filled with meaning, and the former somewhat similarly, as a stepping stone to other pieces as the contrasts of such pieces makes it easy to paint. I never ascribed deeper meanings or trends to those works as I implicitly, without words to my thoughts, assumed their purpose, which seemed more audience-practical than artistic. I can see why someone who has somehow only gotten recommended that stuff might have a skewed worldview (or maybe I’m the one with the skewed worldview) that the whole art world is just becoming copies of each other if you hasn’t ascribed the practical purpose to those paintings nor had you known what else to search for. I haven’t had paintings like that recommended to me since 2017, when I was just starting to paint. I think it’s honestly insane how differently people can be/not be satisfied by the content they see on this… It looks like you haven’t found/explored your niches fully yet.
As usual, this painting turned out fantastically! I think the yellow-green goes so well with the red color you chose for the hair. It gives the whole painting a kind of moody optimism, especially when looking at the subject's expression. Great work! Also, excellent commentary on the creative process. (: I think a lot of us get stuck in perfectionistic loops sometimes, but it's good to let go and just draw/paint sometimes.
I always appreciate your insights and commentary, both on the painting process and just life in general. And I've been loving the quiet moments in your videos lately - I return to your channel when I'm feeling anxious and it helps to calm me down.
Seriously... I was just looking for reviews on this line of gouache because I can get them way easier than Himi Gouache and I hadn't checked my subscriptions. I am sooo happy to find this video :D
from 10:50 onwards i found myself just nodding along to what you were saying (literally i noticed my head bobbing like i was listening to a speech ahah). Its absolutely how our personal art should work for us. Its using the skills we learnt in a way that makes us happy in the process and that visually excites us. So yes we learn the important fundamental rules, but then can bend or use them in the ways which we like :) Beautiful piece as always, i always look forward to your Thursday videos, it really is a peaceful moment to relax with you.
i love how with your art style, at pretty much any point in the painting or sketching process, you can set it down and say its finished and it'll look finished
everything you have talked about in this video has really resonated with me-- I have tried to get to the point of mastering individual techniques you have talked about to reach a technical skill level, but leaves my art feeling emotionless and makes me very unmotivated to work on it. I'm eager to get to the point where I can start breaking rules but struggle to trust myself with taking risks in my own art and walking away with something I'm actually proud of--you've been one of my favorite artists for a long time and I have some of your stickers!! always look forward to your videos
I just love how personal your paintings are. How bold your brush strokes and how your sketch can be seen from the painting. It just makes the whole process so unique and relaxing. I wonder if me subscribing your patreon, will I get postcards too if I live in the Philippines?
I appreciate that you try Russian art supplies. I'm from Ukraine myself but seeing you use these gouaches and White Nights watercolors on your channel makes me so happy 🙏☺️✨ i wish you can review Ukrainian Rosa watercolors🌼 I'm pretty sure these are student grade watercolors but I think it's pretty good considering its low price Wish you the best✨🙏🌺🦊
I'd like to really start practising my art more, hence why I'm watching your videos. They're definitely inspiring me and they're just so relaxing to watch! Your painting reminds me of the artwork in one of my fave RPG games called Disco Elysium. Beautiful :)
Hi!!! i Love your channel and the videos you post and just wanted to say that the stickers i recieved from you were amazing and i nearly cried when i saw you hand signed the letter in with the singular stickers. You're a massive part of my inspiration for my art and are one of the few people I use to keep myself going in my highschool art class!
As an artist myself in high school I personally hated art class because I agree art is something special and emotional and at least I find it hard and frustrating to force something that I may not even connect with.

I love your description of the “ugly stage.” This was definitely an issue when I first tried gouache, but now I have a path out of the woods.

Aaaaaa! I had this gouache for awhile, it's been amazingly impressive, can't believe you're using it😀
Are they good?
@@piwik7286 yep, well I think they are. I haven't had any difficulty using them

Same here. As if I would jump out and say "exactly!" thats just how I feel.
So beautiful. I love the different layers of opacity indeed, and it’s true, the eye changes a lot as we learn! More playful and free!!
I am using that particular brand of gouaches for couple of years and in comparison of price and quality it is quite good
The jars seem like a much better solution to gouache.. more brands should take that route.
I just got this set. Really excited for this video ✨
i love how with your art style, at pretty much any point in the painting or sketching process, you can set it down and say its finished and it'll look finished
I am always happy to see New paints on your channel) Actually learned a lot about whole paint making process and what makes good paints

Thank you so much! This was so helpful!! Can you show us your watercolour painting process next?🦋 stay safe and healthy!
This is so gorgeous and inspiring.

Ooh, I always wanted you to try their gouache. Nice~
Looking forward to the review of this gouache!! ❤
I tend to also think of it almost like sculpting. It's funny to hear someone else think of it the same way.😊
This is cool. A really well balanced painting.

Beautiful art! Does anyone know who this is or what I can search for the reference she uses? Its such a great photo to study
I didn't know the company that makes White Nights watercolors made these gouache jars, they seem nice
Excellent art as always. Love it ❤❤❤
great shadows on this face 😀

Good work! I love to see more of your work
I'm not a patron but I am a loyal follower of your UA-cam channel and love your videos. I hope that still counts for something.
Yay! I've been so curious about this Gouache. @Paintykat uses them. I believe she lives in Russia so they're probably super accessable there.
