As a South African in a country where people do not know what pressure canning is, I have a sincere appreciation of what you guys in the US do in order to educate those of us that need to know how to preserve food. Thank you so much to you as well as Forjars for the fabulous prizes. I'm a keen canner today who loves to use her canner. Lots of love and blessings from Cape Town.♥️🇿🇦

@@JanicePhillips Thank you so much. You Americans are truly fabulous....creative, hardworking, dedicated, etc. I love watching on UA-cam how you create "things". Thank you once again for sharing with the rest of the world. We can learn so much from you.♥️🇿🇦
Hi MRM where did you get your your canner from as I have been searching for one for ages please let me know as I am in Kaapmuiden next to the Kruger National Park.
I love seeing how strangers all around the world helping each other find local resources to preserve & provide for themselves & their families! Thank you for blessing my heart with this online community!
Sadly most Americans don't know how to do this anymore either. This is one of the best things about youtube in my opinion, the ability to learn new skills from each other.
I started canning last year, I was diagnosed with disc disease and drop foot from operation. Lost my career and was very depressed loved to cook and need a hobby I could make part of my home life and it not be money waisted. I started watching these videos and got so inspired it's an every day part of my life now. It's gave me a sense of pride and your videos make me feel at home like your a friend. Thank you and all of the canners involved in these videos. You are one of my top favorites. As special thank you to you, you gave me my reason to keep learning.
Me too with drop foot. I'm still in the diagnostic stage, but I need to walk, so found several sites on exercises for drop foot, so I'm going to see what I can do on my own.
Me too! I’ve had five back surgeries due to spinal cord compression and disc herniations and at L3 & L4, L5& S1 and my drop foot is on my left foot but after 14 years I’m getting some of my ability of my drop foot coming back and the doctor said my brain and nerves are creating new pathways to get to my left foot and has been helping me to lift my dropped foot to help me with it considerably. I originally was told it would never come back if it didn’t come back in one year then it wouldn’t come back but last year it started to come back after having special exercise physiotherapy in a heated pool and I believe that with every day focusing on my stretching has helped me to generate these new neuro pathways to my foot. It’s blown away myself and doctors alike. I have done a similar thing I lose my career but had to find something to put my mind and energy into and in addition to healthful cooking I’ve been learning how to grow food indoors using hydroponics and it’s been an incredible journey learning and watching food grow right before my eyes using water and nutrients and grow lights and a DIY NFT system to grow all kinds of lettuce herbs and peppers and tomatoes. It’s been a wild ride but as humans we have to find something enjoyable to do and things that bring us pleasure and definitely watching lettuce grow and basil and all kinds of herbs it’s been so much fun! 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦
I've been participating in my own Canuary challenge this year. I started yesterday by canning 16 jars of chicken soup. Now I'm low on canned chicken and broth so that is my next endeavor. Happy canning!
Rachel thank you for being a part of this CANUARY collaboration. I have been watching you and Todd for a long time and appreciate all your hard work in getting these videos out for our community. Also thanks to Sutton Daze and ForJars for sponsorship.
Rachael you're such a patient teacher for the newer canners in the group, what a blessing it is to have been learning this craft through you all last year. I have my ForJars lids ready and raring to can along with Canuary videos as they are released.
I've thoroughly enjoyed your channel for the last few years and learned a lot of new recipes, it's been my oasis while fighting and trying to recover from my cancer. I can't wait to add this to my repertoire 🥰
My kids have joined me in the pantry challenge with a few of their own challenges. We are getting together Sunday nights to make a weekly menu and each is contributing a new recipe and have to create that recipe with my help. I love how together and willing to learn they are becoming in the kitchen.
Mrs. Rachel, I have been out of canned garbanzo beans/chickpeas and not only fo I use them for meals, I have been craving hummus. THANKS SO MUCH for the information and motivation!
Welcome 🥰 you will find it is addicting. There is nothing as satisfying as knowing exactly what is in the food you are feeding yourself and your family. There is the added benefit of the security it provides. Blessings from the USA 🙏♥️. PS- I commend you for figuring out the US conversion to the rest of the world 😁
Canning is my favorite way of preserving, so I am so excited for this collaboration! And oh my goodness how kind of Forjars to be giving away not only their wonderful lids but an All American canner too!!! And the other great gifts! WOW!! Going to keep my fingers crossed ❤🤞🏻🙂
I’m so excited to see what you do for Canuary this year!! I have learned SO much from your canning videos! Thank you, Rachel and Todd, for being amazing content creators. I look forward to each and every one of your new videos!
I have canned for years and really did not extend my canning to meats, poultry and beans until last year when I watched Canuary. Thank you for taking the time to share and teach. I have learned so much from all of you and your friends that also participate. Best wishes!
Thank you Rachel for participating in Canuary . Loved your video . I have never had humus before but after watching your video I am going to try it. Thanks for opening my eyes up to new ideas .
Hummus is such a good way to sneak in vitamins and minerals. You’re feeding your family so many good things and saving money too! Being able to go straight to your pantry is so convenient! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
So glad to see you again! My husband & I make it an evening 'habit' of watching you and Tod every day and enjoy learning from you guys. Thank you for this video. I don't care for the beans themselves but enjoy hummus! Thank you for taking us through 2023 on your land rest...can't wait to see what you guys will be sharing & teaching!

What a fabulous idea to season the chickpeas for hummus when you can them. We eat hummus regularly so this would make that task easier and faster. I have freeze dried finished hummus prepared without olive oil. It was a time saver as well. Thanks for not only the idea but also for the instructional video. Happy New Year to you, Todd, the dogs, and your extended families!
I love that you can the beans and prepare them hummus ready! Amazing! I hadn't considered doing this and now I am! Thank you for the inspiration. Side note, because of you and your inspiring me to can this past year and a half I was able to share some of my canned goods with my adult children when they came for family Christmas. What a blessing! God's blessings to you and Todd and a very Happy New Year!!
Just canned this last night. I got the same chick peas as Rachel used from Amazon. I soaked overnight rather than boiled. I ended up with ~18 jars worth of chick peas (most of which I canned along with the other hummus ingredients. I am not sure if this matters (I am new to canning), but while the cans rested overnight, the beans soaked up all of the liquid in the jar. I did edit the recipe by adding 1 tsp of ground cumin to each jar. I used one of the jars to make hummus this morning to taste test. I added the contents of the jar along with 1/4 cup of olive oil and salt to taste to my food processor. Fresh made hummus is clearly better than this, but this was significantly easier (if you don’t count the canning). From shelf to hummus, it took just a few minutes, which is pretty cool. Overall, this was a fun project and assuming that I can get through 17 jars of hummus in the next 12 months, I will do it again. Thanks to Rachel for the inspiration!
I’d also note that the cost for the hummus jars is ~$2/jar (not including the jar) and the yield is ~1 lb. The store bought cost at the moment is ~$5/lb.
How is fresh made hummus compared to canning your own , then making it? Please do tell. This alone sounds super fresh compared to buying at the market.
Following up here, I just finished my 3rd can of this and I will definitely make this again. It is so great to have hummus readily available. This time I added a raw clove of garlic and it was great.
