I wish I could convince my mother to can. She's almost stopped cooking altogether because she's alone. This would work great for anyone that wants to make a nice pot then can the rest.
RACHEL, MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE HOMEMADE TACO SOUP AND NOW I KNOW I CAN CAN IT AND HAVE IT ON MY SHELF READY FOR WHEN WE ARE IN THE MOOD FOR IT. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE CANUARY COLLAB. GOD BLESS
I'm fairly new to canning though watched mom can our summer garden while growing up. both freezers full forced me to take the next step. I began this past August. I think I called her for the first ten canning projects. I then found youtube, you, and many others I do like your innovation/style of canning as I.m not rigid with flavor profiles but with safety. I am serve-safe-certified as I've been in the restaurant industry for 35 years. pre covid for some reason I began to be a "prepper" though we live in a tiny apartment. It's the little things that you give as inspirations, ideas...I try to be frugal and I kept losing carrots but duh you can freeze and can carrots in many ways. this whole preserving thing has really opened doors and inspired me so Thank you. Now onto all of your videos. p.s. I canned 7 quarts of chicken noodle base soup. I was nervous that I broke a jar. I did have a little siphoning but not too bad. and yeah they sealed and none were broken like my second adventure where I had two jars break. Thanks again and keep inspiring us. love it.
the mrs here... Girl, I just love you! I love making taco soup (yes, my recipe is different, lol) because everything can come off your shelves. I would always freeze the extra 7-8 qts, but now I'm trying to not rely on my freezer. So I canned 2 batches...EPIC FAIL! I don't know what I did wrong and I've been canning for years, but every single jar failed to seal...both batches. This was the only time I've ever had this happen. I have been afraid to try doing Taco Soup again. You've inspired me to try it one more time! Thank you!
One of the most disappointing canning days I ever had was last year when I was canning Hubbard squash. I was using some of my mom’s vintage Kerr jars in the pressure canner and 3 broke in one batch! I had never had any problems from them before. Now, I only use those for water bath canning and only use newer jars in the pressure canner. I have retired my oldest jars to dry goods storage. Your soup looks totally delicious! Great way to use up those canned goodies.
I love soups in the wintertime. They are just so soothing. This sounds like a good one. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Broken jars are always a sad thing. I like how you just make your own recipes. I have noticed that about you. This is how I cook, I am beginning to feel confident in canning that way too.
Hi Rachel, I'm fascinated with the decoration above your doorway--it looks like part of an antique tray template. My step-mom was an Early American Decorating master teacher, and I love that decoration! It just caught my eye, as I was watching this great video on making a wonderful soup, as I am in love with soups and stews. Thank you for this video.🌻🥀
the one with the chicken on it? it's actually a cast iron door mat, that's supposed to go on the ground in front of a doorway. but we hung it up there (securely).
Oh yes, now I can see that--well, it's very wonderful visually. It has a look in the video of the gold leaf and black painted template patterns my mom used to work off of when she restored antique trays. Thanks for letting me know!
That looks delicious. I usually like to eat soups and beans like this with cornbread, Fritos, or corn tortillas. One time I ran out and my son suggested making some stovetop stuffing cornbread dressing. We put dollops on top of the smoked turkey and bean soup and it was fabulous. You are right. Use what you have and sometimes you find a new favorite. Great video and I plan to make this soup.
I love that you didn't edit the broken jar out. It does happen. I also love that you "shopped" from your homemade pantry. We sometimes forget we can use things that we've canned to make something else that we can also can. Thank you!
We love taco soup and this looks delicious! We usually eat our taco soup with tortilla chips, shredded cheese and sour cream. This would definitely make for quick last minute lunches and dinners.
Can I tell you how happy this makes me? I'm 63 years old and have just, this past harvest season, learned how to can watching all these video tutorials. My freezer has never been so empty! Loving it! I was able to take canned dinners to my mom for when the menu is less than appealing at the diner where she lives. Now I just need to find her one of those awesome jar openers! Another canner is on my wish list so I can pull double duty with my planned double garden this year. 😁 Thanks for all of your videos. You've taken the fear out of preserving my garden harvest for me as well as all the subsequent yummy recipes! Can on!
Try chicken tortilla without tortillas..extra cumin, coriander, cilantro, garlic, some fresh corn off the cob..fantastic!! Yes, green tomatillos or salsa too in it..oh..yeah...!!
I realy love watching your Channel after all the kids go to bed and what I call mommy tv time starts. This sounds like somthing I am going to have to make.
Jeanne, that's the timing for a jar full of meat. The timing for soups is different because the jars are supposed to only be half-full of solids and filled the rest of the way with liquid. See section 4-18 of the USDA's book The Complete Guide to Home Canning available for free download at: nchfp.uga.edu/publications/publications_usda.html (However, please note that if it's a seafood soup, the times are longer). :-)
@@marygallagher3428 thanks but it also says pints should be processed for 60 minutes...didn't I hear her say 50 minutes for pints? Do you not need to debubble?
I just love watching your videos. Your voice is so relaxing, and that is so helpful with my adhd boy running around crazy during home schooling! Thank you
I put my jars upside down in my electric roaster to get the jars hot and keep them hit as I can. Also havemade batches pasta sauce to can and tomato soup in my roaster. Love taco soup.
Don't feel to bad breaking that jar, this past year I lost 3 cases of jars that were my mother's. I think it was because they were over 40yrs old. I like this recipe using 2 different kinds of beans.
We love Mexican/Taco soup! My favorite spices are cumin and Mexican oregano, in addition to the taco seasoning. When I open a jar and warm it, I add a package of Ranch Dressing mix. Delicious!
I love preserving food.....but after a few years I am finding having stuff like this already prepared and just open, heat, and serve, are the best way to go (for us anyways). We had a ton of green tomatoes at end of the season......we canned up a bunch of chili. It is delish. Green tomato chilli....used up all of our small poblano peppers (at end of season). I have on my "to do" list is vege soup and butternut squash soup this winter. We love taco soup as well, did not even think of this, but thanks for the reminder!!!!
Because of you I'm back to canning & gardening. Retired & a frugal gardener. Love the oops. I've referred your channel to so many friends. Just love the videos.
Ah, taco soup, why did I never think of that!?! I like to can stews but it never occurred to me to can the soups we love to eat all the time. That's a fantastic idea, thanks!
Glad to see that you have joined in the collaborations!!!!! I have 3 different canner loads in pints of this type of soup. My next soup is Zuppa tuscano base.
I love when recipes are put together using ingredients that you have and not necessarily what's listed in the recipe. Growing up, my mom would open the fridge and use up the leftovers ending with the most delicious dinners. I've made turkey soup and threw in so many leftovers, it was so good but don't ask me to duplicate! LOL Anyway, thank you for sharing your talents!!
You are so cleaver Racheal it looks so yummy ,you are always doing a lot ,I don’t know how you do it all !! But I’m glad you take us along for the ride Thank you !
I love how you use your roaster for so many things. Mine sits in the garage most of the time. I'm going to have to pull it out and try it for this soup!
Argh! I feel for you when a jar breaks during canning! I got an entire box of jars that had some kind of unseen flaw and until I realized what was going on and could get rid of the few that didnt break during canning, I had mess after MESS to clean up. But, things happen during canning and knowing how to fix or take precautions is just as important and as knowing how to can correctly. THANKS for the great recipe!!!
My husband just bought me one of those Pry a lid!!! They are amazing, I kept stabbing my hand when I would try and take the lids off. Totally in love with it, Thank you Racheal!!
I made this Taco soup this weekend and oh my yum!!!!!!! so good and the house smelled amazing. Instead of ground beef I used 1 pound of homemade Chorizo and 1 pound of ground pork
I canned some spaghettii sauce this weekend and didn't want to can with a half full canner, so I threw together some Taco soup. Great minds think alike. Thanks for sharing.
So I made this today. I had to use my crockpot and instant pot to cook it but it did well. Still canning it up 10:47 p.m. About an hour to go. I got three quarts and 15 pints. Soup for winter. Yay!!!
This is the type of canning I like to do as I live alone and love the handiness pf just opening a jar for a meal or two. Thanks and love the video
I wish I could convince my mother to can. She's almost stopped cooking altogether because she's alone. This would work great for anyone that wants to make a nice pot then can the rest.

I’m so appreciative when people show the good and the bad! Stuff happens and it’s good for beginner pressure canners to learn!

Keep doing the research. Rose Red Homestead is another you can learn a lot from, too. 😊
I've been watching this duo for a long time, and I have learned a lot!
So did I?
Well this news is exciting... I’m still canning with my moms 1918 National canner.
Yeah. I love the fact you used your pantry to make a meal. That is 2 lessons in one and I love taco soup .BONUS
My hubby can’t eat regular tacos anymore due to dental issues but he can eat soup! Thank you for posting this!

My daughter told me about your channel about a month ago. Have had several binge watching sessions ever since. Love it. Thanks and God Bless.

Girl, I could jump in that soup pot with a piece of cornbread and die happily eating all of it. Looks so good. Wish I could smell it.

Canned for many yrs but hadn’t done any for the last few yrs. I’m back at it and starting from scratch. Better late than never. Love the channel. ❤
I love having complete meals in my pantry. It cuts down on eating out & my teenagers can make lunch or dinner themselves! Thanks for the video!
Love that you use your sleeve as a pot holder! So something I would do!!!
I love watching all your soup recipes so then I can can them and just open a jar and make a pan of cornbread and enjoy so thx for all your knowledge.

Canner! Yes please! Great idea for extra tomatoes, hot & mild peppers and other vegs.
I'm more of an ingredient canner, but I do want to try more soups.

Oh, that looks so delicious! I love Mexican inspired dishes. This one definitely looks like a winner.🦋
I’m so excited about this years Canuary I’m going back and watching all of them!
I thought it was 90 minutes on quarts and 75 minutes on pints. But it sounds like a good recipe. I love spicy soups.

That's what I follow, too. It's recommended by the NCHFP.
It is. Meat and beans are 90 minutes. If there wasn't any in there then it would be 75.
@@marygallagher3428 You're right because under meats it has soup at 75

Just want to say how awesome you guys are. My husband and I love watching. Thanks for sharing.
When you opened your canner and said it smelled wonderful, I thought hmm, 🤔 how can she smell canned food! 😂 Now I understand!
Sometimes it will seep out of the jars while canning as well. Not always a broken jar.
You can almost always smell your canned goods
You can smell it almost always since the canning process forces air out of the jar...
I just love watching your videos. Your voice is so relaxing, and that is so helpful with my adhd boy running around crazy during home schooling! Thank you
Disappointing when a jar breaks, looks good though, something a little different to keep on the shelf, I’m loving canuary

Taco soup - YUM! Great idea for using up pantry items while creating ready-made meals.
This makes me want taco soup. I may have to make it Tuesday instead of Chicken chili.
The best of both worlds!! Tacos and soup!!
That is something I like. I’m trying to get a pressure canner but most are sold out. 😫😫
We love Mexican/Taco soup! My favorite spices are cumin and Mexican oregano, in addition to the taco seasoning. When I open a jar and warm it, I add a package of Ranch Dressing mix. Delicious!
PUT A TSP OF BAKING SODA IN THE SOUP WHEN YOU HEAT IT UP....IT RELIEVES YOU OF GAS LATER...just wanted to share😁 YW
I love canuary. Such wonderful ideas and recipes. I always enjoy having meal in a jar on my pantry shelves.
That looks so good! Instead of ground meat use chicken and you have chicken tortilla soup 🍲
I love the idea of using what you have in the house, and making something new. Nice style.

A useful store cupboard ingredient to have have if you're making soup is Pearl Barley. It adds volume and soaks up excess liquid.
Just got my Grandma's All Amaerican up and running and now I'm excited to try some of these recipes.
