Nice! Camp buffing with freedom of movement (against entangled, ensnared etc.) and 2-3 scrolls of Blight (they are plants, it is the only time I needed those) and he is done. Glyph of warding is very useful also :)
Before the fight begins, stand further down the patch so you don't get pulled into the combat and send an animated corpse or any other summon, that way you won't be surprised when the time comes to actually fight the boss. Besides that, you can cast hypnotic pattern from bellow the ridge and hit most enemies making the first round really simple which let's you finish this fight in no more than three turns with almost no HP damage.
using create water to double the cold damage from ice storm will just one shot all of the needle blights. also it will freeze all the water on the ground making the mound much more likely to use the dash action. Stack up some reverberation on it and it will very likely fall prone on the ice ending its turn.
@@CasualVeteranGamer Just remembered this, if you plan ahead you can get the Ne'er Misser hand crossbow from the Creche. It's a hand crossbow that does Force damage to keep you in the fight!
Luckily enough I decided to go to moonrise tower before doing this fight. Ne'er misser made this fight manageable. Also if you hide out of their line of sight and then attack them, you will start the fight w/o getting surprised.
Is the piercing immunity new? I definitely used a stealth Gloomstalker to kill this guy previously on Patch 5... hmm, maybe I used the Nere Misser (force dmg) to do it...
Finished my Honour Mode run and got the Platinum yesterday and this fight was the closest I got to losing my run. It was always absurdly difficult, but this is ridiculous.
@@CasualVeteranGamer Imagine my reaction when the strongest damage builds I ran were a Tempest Cleric/Wizard/Storm Sorcerer Tav and Sword Bard/Assassin Rogue/Gloomstalker Ranger Astarion. Literally could do nothing to it.
I need to correct a prior comment but I can’t find it. I tested Custom mode after an Honor Mode TPK and it still has Legendary Actions. at least that’s true if you keep a single save. The game calls that “Dishonor Mode.” Larian seems unaware of this because tech support said that LA should not appear in Custom Mode no matter how it starts. I’m not gonna complain to them because I prefer LA in Custom mode. Now that I have my golden dice.
Ring of free action, Boots of Striding, Ne’re Misser; drink invisibility potion and go up tower. Range attack from up there. Prioritize needle blights. EZPZ
Eldritch Knight really does well here as you can throw hammers, e.g. Faithbreaker from Dror Ragzlin for big ranged damage. Overal though this is one of the worst designed fights in the game and borderline unbalanced given the amount of adds and the trash loot you get from the mound itself and the ring in the chest above. Fought it once on Tactician and now skip it everytime.The fight is a trap in every sense of the word.
Was struggling to damage this thing until I realized you can just thunderwave him into the chasm for an instant kill...

I always start this fight by shooting arrows at the one of them while crouching. If you like archers, you can use the Near Misser hand crossbow.
Starting this fight surprised is rough, so trying to surprise them back is probably a very good idea.

This is probably one of the harder bosses if you walk in unprepared, be careful.

Yep! Archers will be largely ineffective against the boss itself.

For me the fact it's immune to piercing damage makes it hard since going in melee with it is very painful!

step 1: get laezel or another gith. step 2: get the silver sword. step 3: stun the boss for 2 turns with soulbreaker. step 4: Kill everything

This fight ended my second honour mode attempt. The first was killed by the meenlocks under last light.
Shart Calm Emotions comes in clutch for the Meenlocks fight. Bard Countercharm is another option
It would but I did not have it equipped at that time.

It's a really annoying fight as is because I tried to surprise it by shooting it while invisible, but instead it made my party start surprised.
Pretty sure he can’t be surprised which makes that harder overall.
@exarkunn69 Yeah nah, if you try, the game not only denies it, it goes as far as to say "no u"
You can avoid being surprised by hitting its minions instead, I use sleet storm here because it covers a large area
