This Platinum 3776 (celluloid) has the same dimensions and construction of the old Platinum 3776 model before they brought the Platinum Century model out in the last couple of years.(i.e. the Chartres Blue etc). Ie ..it is slightly narrower, shorter and has a black stalk where you put in the convertor. I have this old model with a music nib and have had some leaking at the convertor end with a Platinum convertor, but no leaking with a Platinum cartridge. I also have a recent Century model 3776, and much prefer this due to it's slightly bigger dimensions and it being a fraction heavier. The old 3776 (black resin) is a bit light. Not sure if this applies to the celluloid version however, as it may be heavier than the resin version due to different material in it's construction.
I own this pen with the Koi finish. To my eye, it doesn't look pink at all. It is more red and white, a lot like the actual fish. I also love mine. I was lucky to find it on a discount. The only fault I've found is that the trim ring on the cap is loose. If I ever figure out a safe glue to use, I will fix that. Platinum are wonderful pens, and the celluloid is the next step up!
They pop up in Taiwanese buy and sell groups on FB. There's a vintage one on offer with a broad nib for the equivalent of 340 Canadian atm in a beautiful brown celluloid. I got the vintage version (with a black celluloid section instead of the matching color for the newer ones) in tortie for considerably less. There are older converters that fit these models perfectly floating around on the aftermarket. I'm hunting for one of those.
I have always wanted a celluloid pen. I have been on the fence over purchasing a pelikan m200 or a platinum 3776 for my wife. This pen gives another option for her. Thanks for the review.

Wow, what a gorgeous pen! Like you, I have only seen the Koi celluloid version in pictures. To me it looks more red in the photos, but Anderson Pens does describe it as, "a beautiful blend of vibrant pinks, reds, and glowing cream white, reflects the traditional Japanese art of raising Koi fish." The fact that they say "pinks" first makes me think the predominant color (aside from cream) is pink.

try to write with your regular centrury 3776 without the barrel. you will be amazed by how smoother it feels. i think that the barrel of this pen makes the nib louder and make it feel more feedbacky than it really is. maybe this is why the celluloid makes the nib feel smoother! try it and let me know if you noticed it! thanks
I admire your dedication to the 3776. After watching this video the first time.. I found and bought one of these. Because of this little pen I often stay up too late at night writing because it's SO DELCIOUS. Sometimes, when I'm not writing, I just want to have it near me. However, I just realized that mine is a B nib and I sorta wish it was a fine or medium. But it's so gorgeous I'll overlook it's faults. Is it possible to switch out nibs on this? I really LOVE this finish and don't want any other color - except maybe the blue - that's amazing. Oh, and the Tortoise is also beautiful and I want that one two. Ok, I guess I should just agree with myself that I have to get one of each - a fine and a medium - in blue and Tortoise --- eventually. P.S. I like that ink too and use it all time.

You seem to be quite knowledgeable concerning the 3776; I just ordered one from Goulet with a music nib. And I enjoyed your review on that pen as well. I'm essentially fond of the J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary inks and have noted the Platinum converter has no agitator like in the Pilot Con 50. Do you feel like I'll have problems using such an ink like Bleu Ocean? Yes! A Lot of older-formula plastics and rubbers have a smell. I recently bought the Edison Nouveau Premiere special edition from Goulet that is made of ebonite (hard rubber) - it has a slight burnt rubber smell to it. It's not strong, but it is definitely there. And I also don't find it unpleasant, possibly because the pen is such an amazingly wonderful writer. I had a Noodler's Konrad pen in ebonite for awhile, and I had to unload it because not only did I not like how it wrote (even after tinkering around with it), but the smell of burnt rubber was overwhelmingly unpleasant. It could very well be that I wouldn't have minded the smell if the pen had been a better writer.
I love the finish on this one , i've seen the Kio finish which i think Jason (Waski Squirrel) reviewed in the same model so check that out if you have not already. Thanks Kerry sound like you still have that horrid cold, naughty germs.

P.S. I went looking for this pen online. Anderson Pens has it for $360 (US), which...yeah, is still pretty pricey! What interested me enough to add another comment to your video, though, is this: the color contrast between the dark and light flecks looks a lot more muted in their pics than in your video. I'm curious...does the pen pictured on the Anderson site look like the same material as the one you reviewed? I have a celluloid pen (Omas Ogiva Arco Celluloide). I still can't help sniffing at the pen. The smell is very strong. But not unpleasant.
The smell comes from the camphor in the celluloide. It reminds me a bit of soap.

really amazing, but imo you shouldn't be able to see the line - regarding the price of the pen.
That's how this type of celluloid pen is made. It's wrapped, not made from a turned block.
It's now $550 CDN. I've seen it at $650 at fancier shops. But also love it.
