I bought this pen not long ago with a medium nib and it is terrific! Nice feel in the hand, comfortable to use, good fit and finish, and it's very attractive! I am very pleased! I have to say, though, that the medium nib writes very fine. If I get another, and I may get a blue version this time, it will have a broad nib because I like a little bolder line. Still, it is a wonderful pen and I appreciate your review!
the most recent one I bought, about 10 days ago, tonight I noticed a small crack in the grip area, starting at the nib and extending about halfway up towards the threads. Very depressing, because this is one of the ones I paid full price for, it being the fancy faceted “Nice” model. I haven’t dropped it, I’m very careful with it, it hasn’t left my desk. Going to call the seller tomorrow. Other than that major issue, I love the 3776. I have a fine, a medium, and a broad. They all write beautifully.
I agree, and I have the same colors. I would like to get one in the green (I just could not find it at the bargain price of the other two). For just the everyday writing experience and long-term writing, especially if you are working on a book or longer paper, the Platinum 3776 Century is the best pen for the money on the market! Great review!
After reading your review and a few others, I bought the thing. In fact, I got the "newer model" as advertised on Amazon for a good deal less coinage than their original listing. Fabulous pen as far as I'm concerned (my disclaimer - I'm only a rank amateur/hobbyist fumbling around in the fountain pen world). I got the broad nib and inked it with Diamine Syrah. Writes as smooth as silk on Rhodia and Tomoe River paper. Really like the gold nib; the only others I have are on a vintage Waterman and an older Scheaffer which belonged to a family member. Thanks for your review and for reading. This will probably become my favorite pen. Cheers, JC.
I have a Platinum #3776 Century, in Chartres Blue, in a medium nib. At first, it had a hard start, like it wrote dry the first few weeks I had it, but now it writes beautifully. I especially like how I can write upside down.
Have one of each also. Love them. the blue has a soft-fine nib, the burgundy one is a broad, currently filled with a very near color match, diamine syrah :) BTW: your description of the writing experience with these two matches mine. Good review.
I have a Bourgogne Red with soft fine nib and I'm waiting for my Blue with broad nib. I love the pen! Thanks for the review, nice to see that the broad is more like western medium.
My favourite pen also, have the chartreuse blue with a medium, the lines are almost the same width as the broad, but the person I bought it from said they had the nib tuned so that may be why. Also as a side note, I have left mine now for 2 months, just checked it and the nibs still wet
+Christiån Kirkenes two months, thats awesome to know! I want to get a third pen (on of the celluloid models) with a medium nib...eventually I'll have all of them :p
The way the vietnamese make their iced teas and coffee with the sweetened milk is delicious, if this is a good tea for that I can highly recommend looking up how they make the iced tea and giving it a go!
Thanks for your review of this pen. I think I am going to get one but can't decide whether I should get a fine or a meduim. I bought some preppys thinking maybe the lines would be similar, and I think I prefer the fine. Do you know if the 3776 has similar line widths as the preppys? The goulet nib nook shows they are pretty close but I'm curious what your experience is. I've tried some pilot medium nibs, and i like them, but they seem a little finer than the platinums, and I'm concerned the 3776 medium will be just on the wide side for my handwriting. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.
+Matthew Schneider The preppys are fairly accurate to the 3776, so if you liked fine on the preppy then I'd go with a fine 3776. I have the F, M and B of the 3776 and there is a noticeable jump between all three nib sizes. 👍🏻Thanks for watching!
I was too happy with my C nib which I use only for signing. It's a perfect signature pen however, I have bought blue version with the M nib as of today and my first impression is, either the pen has a problem or I am not accustomed to it yet because after using C nib now I feel scratches and even the ink does not flow now I have started to ask the question how come you're happy with M nibs. It does not even write. When I disassemble the pen the nib part is dismantled automatically even without my interference, do you think there might be a factory defect of this pen ?
Kerry, great review as always! I didn't intend to buy a second 3776 but it landed in my cart. Must have needed a blue in broad after the red in medium. Have you tried their President? It is a wonderful writer and looker as well!
Hi, thanks for this - convinced me to take the plunge, and get a broad point. One question - does the pen come with the converter, or do you have to order that extra? I seem to recall that with my Platinum cool I had to get the converter separately.
This pen has been on my list (well the Fujin Raijin gold leaf version) for a while, i keep going back and forth between the platinum 3776 or the pilot custom 74 (this indecision is why i have neither *facepalm*) great review, has convinced me to go with the platinum, think i will love the way it writes!
+Andrew Powers It is my all time fave pen (so I am a little biased lol) and personally I like the look of it better than the Custom 74. Hopefully you love it as much as I do!
+Daniel Novotny Art It was very hard to remain neutral towards this pen hahahah so the enthusiasm just came right through! I always recommend getting a 3776 century!
Have you ever tried a Sailor 1911S or Pro Gear Slim? The nibs are a little stiffer, but I love my Sailors! I have a Platinum #3776 Century Soft Fine and I enjoy it very much as well. It's always inked for notes [I match mine with Sailor Jentle Grenade, a now discontinued ink]. It's nice to see another fountain pen reviewer so keep up the good work!
Can you make a writing sample with platinum 3776 fine nib. Thanks. I come from Vietnam, so i think i can give you some trick to make a Vietnamese tea. The temperature is very important, u should do with 80 centigrade. Make a teapot warmer before raise tea. tea - water proportion about 1/5 of teapot or 5 g tea per 300 ml water. Hope you enjoy it. Cheer.
+Sói Con when I get back from my trip I'll put a comparison of the F, M and B nib from Platinum up on my Instagram (pens_and_tea)👍🏻 That is an awesome suggestion, I'll try that out soon, thanks!
I've been considering (seriously considering) this pen as my next purchase. The nib looks so very good! I LOVE my Sailor pens but I'd like to also add a Platinum to my Japanese collection! Thanks for the review! - roc
+popparoc46 I haven't used a sailor pen before but from what I hear they are very similar, I would absolutely recommend you get one :) and you're welcome!
Hi Kerry, great video as always. You're fast becoming my favourite FP reviewer. You provide lots of details, very thorough, and enthusiastic. I like your use of the term "shock absorber" lol. I think you sold me on the Platinum 3776 for my next workhorse pen. I like the Platinum Nice Pur, because it comes in clear and has rhodium plating. I'm still debating on the nib size. I know I like a finer line width, but not too fine. My choice is either the fine or medium for a daily writer. My other pens include Lamy Safari (EF), Lamy 2000 (EF, F), Pilot Metro (F). I like something between the Lamy Safari (EF) and the Lamy 2000 (EF). I find the Pilot Metro to be too fine, and both Lamy 2000s are a touch too bold for me. Does the M or F on the 3776 work best? Thanks!
I want to buy this pen so much but i dont know wich nib size will be the ideal for me. I'm between medium and broad. I have a Pelikan m600 in medium and I want to know if the Platinum broad is wider or narrower than that, cause the pelikan medium is just a tiny bit wider for my taste. Can you help me with that?

This broad for me is like a proper medium. It seems perfect nib size. I'll get one from ebay.
Have one of each also. Love them. the blue has a soft-fine nib, the burgundy one is a broad, currently filled with a very near color match, diamine syrah :) BTW: your description of the writing experience with these two matches mine. Good review.
+jay moynihan Thats awesome that you have two as well, I have used Diamine Syrah and it is a beautiful colour! thanks for the complement
I have a Bourgogne Red with soft fine nib and I'm waiting for my Blue with broad nib. I love the pen! Thanks for the review, nice to see that the broad is more like western medium.
Thank you for this review!! I've stuck with Pilot, but recently tried a friend's 3776, and now it's in my cart ready for next month.

never been too enthused with the design, but the Nice Lilas coming out has me reconsidering! I hope the writing experience is similar to yours
+Dominique S It does look very pretty!
Just wondering if you have had any trouble with the gold plating rubbing off of the clip?
Thanks for your review of this pen. I think I am going to get one but can't decide whether I should get a fine or a meduim. I was in the same boat, but I have to admit I like the look of the clip a lot better than the Custom 74's. So mine is on the way. :-)
That tea mug is fabulous - i need one that size lol!
+Ashley Shillinger hahahaha I got that from Teaopia (doesn't exist here anymore, it was taken over by Teavana, which is now owned by Starbucks :0)
Nice review, liked the enthusiasm! Don't own the pen yet but it's been on my wishlist for quite some time.
+Daniel Novotny Art It was very hard to remain neutral towards this pen hahahah so the enthusiasm just came right through! I always recommend getting a 3776 century!

Hey Kerry. I have been debating to get this or the Lamy 2000 as a workhorse. Which one would you recommend?

Hi!
How much does one fill in the cartridge last with that broad nib? I mean how many pages does it write on an average?
It depends on a lot of factors but I’d say in the average A5 notebook, 15 roughly? Just a guess though
You have quite a collection of fountain pens now - would you still say the platinum 3776 is your favorite every day pen?
absolutely! It is and probably always has been my fave ;)
+Pens_and_Tea Oh wow, now I really need to try this one out. Thanks!
Anytime!

You can use www.gouletpens.com/nib-comparison-tool to compare all 3 of those. Looks like the platinum medium is your best bet.
Which paper is that?

@@PensandTea Thanks
now i want one of these. I need to quit watching youtube videos.
+Jay Gallegos hahahaha I hear ya!
