  • This video goes over the random key or "unique" keyed ignition switches for the Yamaha G22, Yamaha Drive G29, and Yamaha Drive2 golf cart. This ignition switch upgrade will work on the gas and electric golf carts and come in a 2 or 3 position switch. Doing this upgrade to your Yamaha golf cart will help make it more secure so not just anyone with a Yamaha key can drive off with your golf cart.

    So in order to bypass this unique key ignition. All one would have to do is remove one Allen screw, replace unique ignition with standard one. And use standard key? (About a 3 min job)

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  4 місяці тому

      Yes, which is 100 times better than someone just walking up to your cart, putting a key in the ignition and driving away. If your cart was parked on the side of the street, and someone was tearing the dash apart for 3 minutes, people are probably going to get suspicions. Or if your cart is parked in a cart shed and someone wants to "borrow it" to play a round of golf, and their Yamaha key doesn't work, they are probably just going to go on to the next Yamaha.
      If someone really wants to steal your cart, there is nothing you are going to do that will stop them. Replacing your ignition switch will at least help stop the opportunistic thieves.

    So would it be almost just as easy to plug in a new ignition module, rather than get the universal key? am i understanding that right?

      To get a unique key you have to replace the whole ignition switch assembly which will come with a key that fits that particular switch. powerequipmentman.com/collections/golf-cart-accessories/products/yamaha-drive-drive-2-random-key-ignition-switch

    Whats the difference between the 2 position vs a 3 position? I have a 2007 Yamaha G29

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  5 місяців тому

      Your cart should just have a 2 position switch. You would only use a 3 position switch if your cart was a newer PTV model that uses a 3 position switch to control the headlights too.

    Will one of these random key switches work on a 2022 Umax 2+2?

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  2 роки тому

      Yes they should work on a Umax. If you have a separate light switch on the dash, you would just need the 2 position switch. We should have those back in stock next week. powerequipmentman.com/collections/best-sellers/products/yamaha-drive-drive-2-random-key-ignition-switch?variant=40840561950911

    I have a 2021 ptv with the two position switch which has four numbers on the key, i went to my dealer to get another spare key and they said they have no idea how to get another key from yamaha, they told me i would have to get another key cut from my originat key. So my question is how or where can i get a blank key to cut that will work in a ptv. Thanks

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  2 роки тому

      Hey John, thats a good question. I have never seen any blank keys from Yamaha. You might check with your local locksmith or key shop. If you can't get a copy made and you end up loosing your only key, you would just have to replace the whole ignition switch with a new one that comes with two keys to match it.

      Thanks for the reply, i will keep checking around. Maybe i can find a yamaha rep that can help me, if i find out any info i'll let you know. I found a used 2021 ptv that has a 3 inch lift on it which i want to remove i have the old spindles. It has12 inch rims with 22inch street tires now. What is the tallest tire i can use with a 10 inch rim with a street tire that wont rub and still get decent speed. I dont really like the 12 rim because you have to use low profile tires which i feel you loose cushion from the low profile. Your thoughts. Thanks, your videos are very informative.

      On a non lifted cart you can run a 20" tall tire. You will only have rubbing issues you have a rear seat with 4 adults, then you would need heavy duty rear springs (which we have on the website).

      John,
      Yamaha sells random key blanks for key codes 5000-5299. You must have original to make copy. Any key cutter should be able to cut.

    Can someone please tell me how the two tiny springs and the brass clip things go into the ignition. They fell out and I don’t know how to put them back in

      @@PowerEquipmentMan it was a new ignition switch. Yes it came apart as I was installing it. I ordered a new one. Tired of messing with that one. Lol

    I replaced a three position switch and now when I switch to light position I lose power to cart, If I switch back to on (without lights) the cart runs again,

    My cart is stored at the golf club and anyone with a yamaha key can use it and they have without consent. It is a PTV. Where can I get the unique key 3 position ignition switch?

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  11 місяців тому

      The 3 position switches have been on backorder since the end of last year. We have a bunch of them on order, but no ETA at this time.

      I see you have them in stock now. The cost is about 3 times what a common one costs here but I was still going to buy one. But $265 to ship such a small item to Australia is ridiculous.

      Just checked how much it would cost me to ship a 1lb item to you from here and it is $13AUD.
