  • Gerakas is the southernmost beach on the island of Zakynthos. It is a relatively isolated beach, that is part of the National Maritime Park natural reserve. It is located in the extreme southwest of the Vasilikos peninsula, 12 km south of Argassi, 16.5 km from the capital Zante and 22 km from Laganas.
When you arrive at the parking lot, you will notice that there are many parking spaces and it is not crowded like in other parts. There are taverns, shops and toilets near the parking lot.
Going down to the beach you will see the special landscape and the fine sand. In this sand the caretta caretta turtle (Loggerhead sea turtle) lay their eggs, and they are protected by law with the help of many volunteers.
The beach is very good and very beautiful, the sand is fine, you can find a stone or two, but it is not disturbing. The entry into the water is slow and the beach is good for small children. There are sunbeds and umbrellas, but it is forbidden to stick your own umbrella in the sand. There is nothing else here, so food, juice, toilet...up to the parking lot.
The existing carretta nests are surrounded and many posters warn you not to enter there or disturb them in any way. This species of turtles are on the verge of extinction and have an extremely low hatchling survival rate, for this reason they are protected .
It is a quiet and not very crowded beach, being ideal for those who prefer peace and families with small children.
