Having a build talk to you is one thing, but when you find yourself in a heated argument with a half-built model at 3AM over little things like the accent colors or the amount of greeblies...that is when you know it's time for a break. 😵💫
I bought a 4' x 8' sheet of .040 styrene from a local plastic company for about $20. Had them cut it in half so it would fit in my car (rolled up) and then broke it down into 2' x2' sheets for storage. Also use thin styrene from printed signs, available at hardware stores. Much cheaper than hobby stores.
@@CosmicQuestHobbies The hardware store signage is definitely cheaper than hobby store styrene. If you're lucky you can find different thicknesses and even some with cool textures.

Have you tried going to “train shops, swap meets, local model clubs, or the manufacture places that makes the materials (also their web-sites too)? You should also use regular warm or cool white LED’s and paint on translucent paint of any color and build up from there too. Blue LED use more energy.

@@CosmicQuestHobbies Generally I think Homeworld series has the best spaceship designs out there. Recently I am more into realistic spaceship designs but when technology is not limited to our modern knownledge than spaceships could look like more sci fi like.

Just discovered your channel. What a great scratch build! Hope to see a lot more from you in the future! What software did you use to make the intro? Is it blender? Oh, one thing, i use nearly the same colors for rust effect as you. Vallejo flat brown and red leather and then i finish with VGC orange fire. The orange fire give a little more contrast in brightness and color to the edges.

I actually drew up a rough sketch and sent it to my fleet maintenance specialist - AKA my dad, lol, to make for me. He added the lettering as a fun addition. It has worked out well for this model and look forward to using it on other models. I do think if I go any bigger with future models though, I would probably need a bit of a bigger model.

@goaway152 yeah, it's hard finding good sources for styrene. I know some people buy the for sale signs from home stores. I personally just bought a bunch from a local sign making supplier when I was back in Michigan. I would try looking for a source like that?

I have a question (since we seem not to have weld on in Germany): Is weld on a kind of CA-glue or a plastic glue that melds the plastic a bit and fuses both together?
Howdy. The Weld-on 3 is a plastic solvent. It is very similar to the smaller bottles of plastic solvent cement, that you can buy in hobby shops, that meld the seams together. You might be able to find the Weld-on at sign making shops that deal in acrylic or plastics. I have actually also read about others using lacquer thinner as a welding solvent as well but not honestly sure how well that works. Thank you for watching!!

The ones in my story line are primarily built by CQH Aerospace and its subcontractors. I'm sure there'll be a ton more ships by other companies once the "technology" gets into more hands. I think that's what you're asking? Thanks for the question Thom🙂🚀
Thanks for the question WiFuzzy! I'm definitely still learning weathering, etc.. for these things. My concept for this ship was that it was like 100 years old because its been kicking around for a long time and got all kinds of things added to it over that time period. It kinds of reminds me of a rusty old Buick that someone got stuck driving as their first car. I would likely have only minimal weathering on a newer vessel, limiting it to things like carbon around engines, etc..
amazing build but lost opportunity. lights in the bridge. lights in the warp waveguides. lights around the top garage style door. lights near the guns or some other recesses to cast shadows almost as if theres some crew quarters and their lights are shining through the viewports.

It kinds of reminds me of a rusty old Buick that someone got stuck driving as their first car. I would likely have only minimal weathering on a newer vessel, limiting it to things like carbon around engines, etc..
amazing build but lost opportunity. lights in the bridge. lights in the warp waveguides. lights around the top garage style door. lights near the guns or some other recesses to cast shadows almost as if theres some crew quarters and their lights are shining through the viewports.
Howdy! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts🙂. I completely agree!! I am working on my skill for lighting and other things with the models for sure. I definitely have future plans to actually have a miniature bridge with crew and lighting and other things. All I can say is stay tuned for future builds.
