This is one amazing amplifier. You HAVE to try it for yourself. It sounds completely different in real life, and wasn't captured as realistically on this demo. It's honestly just about the most perfect tone of any amp out there. Mesa have accomplished something incredible, once again. :-)
Marcus Daniel convinced me to buy this amp; and its the best purchase I've ever made. My evolution of my amp ownership : Rogue 1x10 to Crate 2X12 to Line 6 Vetta to Palomino V16 to Marshall JCM 900 and now the Electra dyne. End. Peroid. Cap. Ceiling. Best amp ever.
nice dude, that is exactly why i like this amp because of the simplicity of the amp... because im so used to having fender amps and they are simple but the clean and overdrive volume levels kind of suck in the fender amps because they change, but you saying that i can match the clean and overdrive is icing on the cake, and i would definitly buy this beauty... thanks
This is absolutely brilliant! A super lead plexi style boogie! Perfect for that vintage woody tone with that Mesa low end and crunch. I am currently a proud owner of a 3 channel dual rectifier and I would love to have this also. The reverb function is also very cool for those shimmering cleans.
I've been through soo many amps like the Bogner XTC 101b regular Shiva and 20th, Diezel Einstein. The Electra Dyne with a BB Preamp beats them all IMHO. I hardly touch the knobs but this amp is seriously underrated and overlooked.
I'm thinking of purchasing the Dyne head version with cream back speakers as well. Is there anything negative that you would say there is? If so please be specific. Thank you in advance for your feedback because this Amp sounds killer!
Thanks, Bo88y Beretta - Glad you're digging it. People love this amp. The only thing that concerns some people is not having separate controls over all the modes - the controls are shared between the one set of knobs for all 3 channels. That said, the cntrols are pretty well laid out to sound great in all three modes at one setting and, like we said, lots of people LOVE this amp. Check it out in advance if you can to make sure it works for you, but hopefully you love it! :)
Bo88y - I love the amp. I have 7 amps and this one (and a Vox AC30) that I cannot imagine parting with. I don't play in a live situation so your needs may be different. Also, I use the Lo Gain channel almost exclusively. For cleaner tones I use a different amp or roll off the guitar volume. I see it as a great all around rock n roll amp. No pedals, no effects, just guitar into amp for me. Hope this helps.
And let me add this, The elctra dyne has channels to switch between, it's clear in the video. The controls are even voiced so that when you switch channels they are geared towards the channel selected. Mesa makes very versatile amps but sometimes that equates to alot of tweaking to find what you are looking for. This amp is designed so that you can put all the settings at noon and have your bread and butter tones - no fuss. Tweak to your particular style. Thinking of trading in the special.
Finally I got this amp what a beast and very musical amp. I play from clean to blistering gain of music though the amp is not built for ultra gain but its clean to high-gain modded marshall is impeccable, i got a megalith delta distortion pedal if i want brutal gain and this amp takes pedals like champ. Been torn between this the dual rectifier and mark v sure those amsp got the high gain covered and excellent on lower gain and clean sound but the dyne is untouchable from clean to vintage high gain, thats why i choose this amp and add a very responsive jfet based modern highgain pedal like the megalith delta as its 4th channel and im in a tonal bliss. Who doesn't want a fendery kind of gain and a british crunch amp anyway, this amp is an instant classic and a hidden gem not just for mesa but for all tube amp.
I adore my Electra Dyne 2x12 Combo. I have one vintage 30, and one C90 in the cab. My own tones. Cleans and gains hit the speakers differently. I love the resulting tone. Like in my Road King Cabinets.. I have a Road King v2 Head and Road King Cabs as well. I LOVE the Electra Dyne!! a Lot!! Peace.. DVB
The Santana tone on this amp is pure heaven! You basically turn the vol way up and dial back the Master Vol and you can do Carlos all day long! I just don't get the single channel thing. That's why I would pick the Lonestar for the type of tone you're asking about. Plus having multiple channels makes the Lonestar more versatile in my book.
Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne = the best package: not much knob tweaking, wonderful dynamics, verstile, footswitchable and perfect overdrive with just the right amount of gain and saturation. Only con: price.
Please forgive the last comment. I'm a noob. Just read the manual and I realize the rear jack is for channel switching. I ordered my head yesterday. I can't wait.
Toward the end of the video the on-screen says, "45 watt Class A or 90 watt Class A/B." Almost everywhere else I've heard it and read it to be 45 watt Class A/B and 90 Watt Class A/B and Class A combined in Simulclass. Since both comments are fro Boogie reps they should clarify this. It is important.
Naturally, the classic with 2x12 is heavier than the Special with its single speaker. Both are quite a load to carry though! But tube amps are supposed to be heavy aren't they? But classic is also available in a single speaker combo as well. They also come as just heads.
How are these guys not deaf?! Seriously, there should be blood oozing from the ears at that level lol. Regardless, one of my favorite Mesa amps of all time.
Electra Dyne is definitely more in line with that style, no doubt about it. The recto is about heavy rock and metal. It can DO classic rock, sorta, but it's a much more hifi, scooped sound than classic Marshall tones.
This video states the Dyne runs class A for the 45watt mode, but Mesa's website says it's class A/B in 45 watt. Anyone got the scoop on which is right?
It has great tone and it's really heavy! I'm filing this one under "Not an Issue"! They put wheels on it so you can push it around. Buy a dolly man! The Special is not as heavy! Probably the same weight or less than the Supersonic. The Classic is the real heavy one unless you get the 1x12 version. But if you want the tone then forget about the weight! You do what you gotta do to get the tone man!
im thinking of unloading my marshall super lead head for something like this..i am now going to the less and less pedals route..but the electra dyne is on the heavy side
@MikefromMesia Hahaha.....I've said that many times. My amp evolution has been Peavey Bravo, Marshall Valvestate, Marshall JCM900, Marshall JCM2000, Marshall Vintage Modern, Budda Superdrive 30, Orange AD30HTC. When I bought the Orange I said that was the one. Now I'm looking for something new.
If you are only switching gain stages. .then the clean tones would have to be at a much lower volume. . the crunch tones would be a notch up in volume with the lead tones at the highest volume. . much like the way I like to play in a band. . using my volume control on my guitar instead of dancing on pedals. But there might be times when you need the clean tones to be as loud as the lead tones? Very different design. . something that I would need to really play to understand I guess?
Just curious have an electra dyne on layaway should have very soon, but was wondering how a 200 watt old mesa boogie black shadow EV speaker vs the current celestion?
Actually I was never really looking to get metal. just saying that the LSS isn't designed for it. That said I just traded the LSS in for a triple rectifier head. I got a 1x12 and 2x12 pair of stiletto cabinets. Same speakers as the recto cab but they are more compact and lighter. I was thinking about the electradyne but when I got to the store they had a used mint condition triple rect... i had to take the deal...
I'm an Electra Dyne owner and I'd like to know if I can change its four 6L6 tubes with 6V6 ones without any other major changes, as we can do with the Lonestar? Thanks on advance,
That would be NO. This thing is loud. I have the head sitting on a Rec 2X12 cab and it is only slightly louder than the 1X12 combo. Coolest thing is that I can take it home for writing and get the same tone as stage volume. Not only will you compete in a night club venue but you could really just smoke the drummer if you wanted to, and this thing has enough low on tap that you could drown the bass player also. Volume will most likely never be an issue.
We all have the hair we were born with, you can just listen in headphones or something and not look at the video, probably a better way to concentrate on the tone anyway.
Still the best demo of this amp. I must've watched it 100 times, literally.
That pushed clean tone is DIVINE!
This is one amazing amplifier. You HAVE to try it for yourself. It sounds completely different in real life, and wasn't captured as realistically on this demo. It's honestly just about the most perfect tone of any amp out there. Mesa have accomplished something incredible, once again. :-)

The Electradyne is actually a killer heavy metal amp!
I definitely love the riff in vintage low. When he slides up to the G#min7. It's pretty.
Always leaves you wanting more which is very rare for a demo vid good job!
I like the no nonsense way this guy demos.
Love these demo's... great player and can really demonstrate a variety of tone from many different genres - not everyone can do that well! props.
Every amp is awesome in it's own way.
My amp evolution ends when I own them all.
This is probably the best British inspired tone I've ever heard. I'd buy this over a hot rod marshall any day.
nice dude, that is exactly why i like this amp because of the simplicity of the amp... because im so used to having fender amps and they are simple but the clean and overdrive volume levels kind of suck in the fender amps because they change, but you saying that i can match the clean and overdrive is icing on the cake, and i would definitly buy this beauty... thanks
Marcus. . nice demo's. . you play and you do not talk us to death. Thanks!
Yes, totally overlooked. It is absolutely so fantastic and so much fun to play.
Probably the best amp video demo I have seen
amp sounds amazing and this kid can PLAY!
My evolution was Dual Rectifier (Which I still have) and then Electra Dyne. I practice guitar almost every day now.
I watched this video and then went and traded my Mesa Roadking2 for the ElecraDyne!! The best thing I have ever done!! Amazing amp and real simple!!
Cheyenne Monnier - Thanks! Glad you dig - great amp... ;)
How do you compare both amps?
I've been through soo many amps like the Bogner XTC 101b regular Shiva and 20th, Diezel Einstein. The Electra Dyne with a BB Preamp beats them all IMHO. I hardly touch the knobs but this amp is seriously underrated and overlooked.
Nice demo, very well done. Amp sounds amazing!
I have the head version. I play it through a 2x12 closed back cabinet with cream back speakers - love this amp.
Nice, +Alan Cobb ! Glad you're digging it. Thank you! :)

Cleans are gorgeous!
Great sounding amp!!!

This amp compliments my dual rec, full spectrum of tones between the 2.

Just got mine! WOOOO!!!!!
What's up Gregg Brady?!?
Hahahaaaha.
Thank you for using a PRS.

This thing gets surprisingly beefy - check 4:20. I like that.
Electra Dyne is definitely more in line with that style, no doubt about it. The recto is about heavy rock and metal. It can DO classic rock, sorta, but it's a much more hifi, scooped sound than classic Marshall tones.
great amp!
Dude, hit your LSS with a BB plus preamp or a Jekyll and Hyde pedal and you'll get metal. Try it with a recto cab with v30s and it sounds amazing.
This video states the Dyne runs class A for the 45watt mode, but Mesa's website says it's class A/B in 45 watt. Anyone got the scoop on which is right?
Hi Jackson - The video is mistaken. The ElectraDyne is Class A/B in it's 45 AND 90 watt mode.
Thanks for asking!
It has great tone and it's really heavy! I'm filing this one under "Not an Issue"! They put wheels on it so you can push it around. Buy a dolly man!

Great Video, great amp and a question?
Can I change the 6L6 Tubes with 6V6 in this Mesa amp to have less power?
Actually, the ED has only ONE channel, with three different 'gain stages' and ganged eq pots.
Is there any way to set the gain control for each mode or do you have to pick a gain setting that effects all three modes?
Just curious have an electra dyne on layaway should have very soon, but was wondering how a 200 watt old mesa boogie black shadow EV speaker vs the current celestion?
Hit the Electra Dyne with a BB Preamp and it just kills for leads or metal. I used the combo with a 4x12 in a loud band setting and it PUNCHED.
Actually I was never really looking to get metal. just saying that the LSS isn't designed for it. That said I just traded the LSS in for a triple rectifier head. I got a 1x12 and 2x12 pair of stiletto cabinets. Same speakers as the recto cab but they are more compact and lighter. well...I know whats first on my Christmas list lol
It's a PRS SC250.
How are you switching the channels at the end when there is no footswitch plugged in. I thought the jack in the back was for reverb.
Is it just me, or did he totally nail Adam Jones' sound (from Tool) at 1:50?
Mesa rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This amp appears to act like a 3 channel amp due to the user being able to switch through three modes?
@jsabo1929 SSH Strat, and a PRS SC 245 I beleive.
I'm an Electra Dyne owner and I'd like to know if I can change its four 6L6 tubes with 6V6 ones without any other major changes, as we can do with the Lonestar?
Thanks on advance,
are this demos recorded with a mic or direct, that would change the tone alot?
What is the diff between mode switching and channel switching? Seems that you get the same result?
@klepetar do you have an ED? and if so, how is it? im seriously considering buying this baby....
How many gain stages????? I prefer 3-4 stages for gain.
@skleung around $1600 for he dyna
It should be her by wednesday. i'll post a vid soon after.
Who’s this dude?
Out of the box the 1 x 12 combo weighs over 75 lbs! :(
how much to these go for?!
loads of low freq or is it just me?
the controls seem a lot like the royal atlantics'
@jsabo1929 SSH Strat
i thought he was wearing a wig haha
Tough to take this seriously with hair like that ;)
could be worst, he could've looked like one of the Three Stooges
We all have the hair we were born with, you can just listen in headphones or something and not look at the video, probably a better way to concentrate on the tone anyway.
"Hi I use to be a stand in for the Brady Bunch"
cleans are a disaster on this amp
youve either never played one, or you dont know what a nice clean is.
ok mister greatness
