Andy is one of 2 guys who impresses me so much by playing slow and emotionally only Shawn Lane could make me feel this way. Im gob smacked how much i Love Hearing Timmons play and humbley talk about his gear. His Guitar speaks like no other.
I'm ashamed to say I had not heard of this guy until I stumbled upon him on youtube - he is a truly superb player - feel and phrasing and a style of his own - and he seems so down to earth - lots of great advice on these clips - top man Andy.
Dude he is very humble. I ran into him in a mall near Dallas. He was letting his son ride a carousel. We chatted about a previous gig I saw him at and he was completely nice and normal. He was telling me about the setup he was using at the the show like I was a good friend, as well as introducing me to his son. I think that is cool for a great guitarist to be so friendly and open. I actually cut the conversation cause I didn't want to keep him. He is teaching his son to play too!
Trust me, I only know Andy Timmons because of Ibanez catalog. But after I heard some of his albums, trust me you won't be able to learn his phrasing. I heard Petrucci, Satriani, Vai, Lukather, Johnson, Howe, and Govan. Andy has unique phrasing that is always fresh. His solo is spot on. It could be because he's so emotional when he plays the guitar. You can see it on his body. His totally different. It's all about his phrasing and feel. Damn, this guy is so great. The other guitarists that I think are unique on their own is Allan Holdsworth (though he sounded like synth keyboard player) and Kotzen. I have nothing against other guitarists I mentioned because I listened to them too and they are great. But then again after hearing Andy, I'm convinced he should be up there. Just watch some UA-cam clips here of Timmons, Vai, and Gilbert, Andy simply smoked them hahaha.....
I think the thing about Andy is that he plays more organically, instead of playing very 'literally' which the guys like Petrucci do. Every single note has a unique touch, like a slur or a twiddle or something, which gives his playing more character and depth. Another guy who does something similar is Chris Buck.
Andy is incredible,I've jammed with him last year and he is a very modest person and incredible musician;moreover he has this beatiful warm tone that fits perfectly with is playing!Go and see him if you have the opportunity!
The Man Another Texan With Natural Skills Original Technics Great Tone Analog Tones I Dig Everything He Produces. Wish I Could Even Afford One Mesa Boggie !! Played Through One A Few Times Tone Rock On Andy : )
@ShadowLancer128 True, but he did that with his Ibanez's and early musicman's which were basswood body and maple neck, which to my knowledge aren't that bassy guitars. So I think it has something to do with mesa alone. And I don't think he has ever designed an amp with mesa.
That is great to know that, i would love to see him live some time but living in the UK i am not sure how often he is over here. His son will be a god if Andy is teaching him. His son is very lucky to have a father as great as Andy is. I think there pre conceived opinions that guitarists and famous guys are quite obnoxious but i think some are really great, even Malmsteen is very nice to people which is controversial to some stories i have heard. I wish i could meet Timmons some time.
wow... the stiletto is a great amp it sounds like the best clean fender delux reverb and the best marshall but it is still the one and only mesa boogie. great
@shystylzyt I agree with kennethjay, but in case you still wanted to know, i'm pretty sure it's a Seymour Duncan JB model, if it's not that, it's his signature Dimarzio pickup
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO damn good! That clean tone is fucking ridiculous. I think if he would have demo'd more Stiletto's like that they would have sold like crack. So damn good. Now I need his pickups and a memory man! lol
Someone, please, PLEASE tell me what he is playing at 3:46. That may just be the sweetest clean riff I have ever heard, a true god among men if there ever was one.
Petrucci does that "bass almost at zero" thing with his mesa/boogie amps. Not at zero but very low unlike many of us mortal guitar players yet it sound normal.
Andy is incredible,I've jammed with him last year and he is a very modest person and incredible musician;moreover he has this beatiful warm tone that fits perfectly with is playing!Go and see him if you have the opportunity!
I strive to play with even a tenth of his talent. His tone is glorious, and he plays with so much feeling that it's ridiculous!
andy timmons makes me want to buy all of the gear that he is using. the guy is amazing!

@gtarman8d Andy says right before he plays it, that its from his Resolution cd, called The Prayer/The Answer.

Andy Timmons is a stunning guitarist and a damn nice guy to boot. He should have more recognition for being so damn cool!!!!
this tone is a grammy winner wow
Mesa Boogie are some of the best sounding, most expensive amps I've seen. So it balances out
Andy is incredible,I've jammed with him last year and he is a very modest person and incredible musician;moreover he has this beatiful warm tone that fits perfectly with is playing!Go and see him if you have the opportunity!
Fantastic Musician, absolutely awesome !!

@PurpleIvek I agree with ya,smooth and fluid with the touch of a world class pro
Man, this guy even pours total feeling into the music in a demo. Mesa ought to like the publicity from someone who knows what music is about.
Very very amazing tone!!
@dynamitri Nothing in particular, just a groovy rhythm thing!
@ShadowLancer128

i love the style in 3:57 .. pickup selector.

i'm I correct in seeing that he has the additional gain switch off on his second channel when they go for the zoom in around the 0:15 mark?
@kampuri Just a little curious, I'm a fan of both of them, but where did you hear that ? Any reads on it would be great if you know of any
ok cheers for the advice
You should check out the live vids when he was with danger danger in the 80,s he was ripping it up awesome!
Someone, please, PLEASE tell me what he is playing at 3:46. That may just be the sweetest clean riff I have ever heard, a true god among men if there ever was one.
EHX (Electro harmonix) deluxe memoryman x2. He talks about em in part 1 :)
Damn!! Found my dream amp..I better start saving!
2:29 i thought he was going to play Still got the blues :P
ALOT of a players tone comes from their hands, but nice gear def helps. I'll bet he would sound great in a pawn shop playing through crap too
@mrdavid333 so he can change the delay level or time with his feet.
I think they are 4 Rectifier 2x12 cabs with Celestion Vintage 30
Great video 5*****
thanks for replying :)
i do like really heavy stuff so i was thinking a mark IV or V?? would you recommend a rectoverb over a mark??
what are those stick things he has one the memory man pedals??
One thing I have to say is that his sustain seems to be quite short with this setup?
I would do anything to know what his echo/delay choice is here.
What song is he playaing at 6:38 ?? gotta learn it.
Why can't I hear reverb when he demonstrates the reverb on the amp? I here no reverb??
which mesa would you recommend out of the ones you've owned for crunch, lead but also slightly overdriven bluesy tones??
@Charliecrooker
Is that a song, what's the name please
Petrucci does that "bass almost at zero" thing with his mesa/boogie amps. Not at zero but very low unlike many of us mortal guitar players yet it sound normal.
Are those the Road King cabs?
whats the name of the song at 3:46 ??
Nice SRV kinda groove. @ 3:25
@shystylzyt It's all in his amp for this tone :P
hey man it's 2 memory mans. one set to 500 mil to one amp and the other set to 350 mil to the other amp.
EHX (Electro harmonix) deluxe memoryman x2? Pretty simple...
anyone know the song at 3.46?
Anybody knows the preamp tubes he´s using? My lonestar DEFINITELY doesn´t sound like that one haha :D
***** Definitely Mesa 12AX7s... Nothing tricky here - just Andy being an outrageouslu good guitar player. ;)
***** nothing wrong budy with your gears... it's just... his fingers... his mind... his soul... ;)
Guillermo Guerrero maybe its just your fingers, just maybe
Does Andy use reverb???
yes, he uses one in the amp.
Yea, I realized that then I felt fairly stupid for asking haha. Thanks though.
Wow
the tone is so good it hurts..anybody want to loan me like 10 000 dollars to recreate this..
i actually got a used lonestar and stiletto for 1900
bend at 1:28 my god.
nevermind he says it, im stupid lol
Andy is incredible,I've jammed with him last year and he is a very modest person and incredible musician;moreover he has this beatiful warm tone that fits perfectly with is playing!Go and see him if you have the opportunity!
