In this video Guitar World's gear editor Paul Riario demonstrates the features of the Mesa/Boogie Electra Dyne amplifier. - Розваги
I think this is the best amp Mesa makes right now. Huge and full sounding, as good as any boutique head I have tried. Just a great and very versatile with an OD pedal!
I just got my electra Dyne head yesterday got it for $700.00 can’t wait to try it at practice great video and demo of this awesome head
Great playing on this ! The reviewer is getting better!!
Sounds great.
This is one of GW's better reviews. However, it really does not do the amp justice - mostly due to UA-cam's vid compression, etc. Your best bet is to go play one, they are FANTASTIC. Great tight low end, smooth mids & highs. Very dynamic, you can max the gain and still roll of the guitar volume and get reasonably clean. The knobs are stacked pots - so you can get goos sounds across all three modes.
Man Paul has the best job in the world
The sound is a little off from what I would expect from Mesa Boogie...but its probably just UA-cam's compression or their recording setup (doubt it)
to f2kflyer: You are exactly right. I'm selling this amp right now on eBay and I really don't want to let it go :( The best cleans and distortions I've ever heard in an amp. It really is three different amps in one. I'm gonna miss it!!
Is the stacked pots the reason for the unheard of 7 pre-amp tubes? I always wondered why.
if there is an epiphone sounds better than a gibson, I would love to see that video. Really, I would.
Paul rules!
@electricguitarkevin does epiphone make "road worn" les paul customs? i haven't heard of any so they're probably natural :P
I used to dis epiphones all the time, but I've tried a few more than i did then, and they can be pretty great. Especially the custom shop Les Pauls. I tried 2 Epiphone Les Paul customs and they werent bad at all and was almost looking into buying one off one of the owners. Sure it isnt a Gibson Standard or Custom Les Paul, but not all Epiphones are that bad.
@JerrickCrites: yeah, ill admit when properly dialed the mud isnt as apparent. you probably have a better ear than most people and know how to "tune" a mesa! im a big 60s tone guy so i like more of an overdrive sound that sparkles a bit. i still think there are more expressive amps but its also true that what works for me isnt what will work for others.
Watch the Mesa review. Its an amazing amp.
@ Megabassmasta
Yea dude! ;D
@kutsbothways Something had to be wrong with it because these amps are very thick sounding. Either that or shut off the reverb as they can add harshness at low volumes.
Sounds not so bad here, but, I tried the Electa Dyne at GC using a Les Paul special w/p90's; also with a PRS single cut (not an SE thank you) and found the amp a bit thin sounding. No real depth or fullness. I dont pretend to be much on boogie products but was thinking of this amp for purchase. It just came up short of the expectations I had after all the hype. I gig with a stock 74 Super Reverb and was looking for an amp with full rich fender clean, but could also kick in a nice lead tone, nah.
because its most likely the same higher quality cheaper guitars that the people who are watching this vid play. he wants to show us how it sounds with cheaper guitars.
I would love to see some outakes from this guy, i he's got a fair few good ones.
amazing sound i really want a decent amp :< but i really need to get better first..
Hope you're better now...👍🏼
@matabaldia agreed it's not a gibby but the tone on this video isn't half bad for an epi LP custom
Did you notice at 1:49 - 1:52 he got a dead on Eric Johnson viola sound! Cool!! :)
@kutsbothways Dude, electra dynes have shit tons of low end and thickness. Try the 2x12 combo of the one with cab. I'm almost sure you didnt crank it either.
If they made it sound closer to the 5:50 than the LoneStar on the dirty, that's a good thing.
@fezzard lonestar for metal? LOL what happened to the rectifiers and the roadsters xD
BOOGIE FTW!!!
This amp sounds very similar to the Express 5:50 to my ears.
Out of the box the 1 x 12 combo weighs over 75 lbs! :(
Mesa Boogie own
I think this is Paul's "I just had wild sex"-hair XD
It would've been better for Mesa Engineering to put as the 3rd sound their trademark modern gain tone instead of a vintage high gain when we're already offered a vintage low gain on the 2nd sound :/
@gtjumper
Apples and oranges really.
@matabaldia He's doing the right thing. Any Gibson Les Paul would sound amazing on a Marshall or Mesa. It's up to the amplifier's capacity to make a guitar like Epiphone Les Paul Custom sound good though ;-| Besides, don't forget that the majority of Guitar World readers are young players who can't afford a Gibson Les Paul or PRS Custom ;(
The Simu-Class feature has nothing to do with enabling the amp to run full or half power
i would buy it..but it's another heavy amp by mesa.. it's twice the weight as my jtm45..
why are epiphones les pauls 'fake". You would think after 60+ yaers of being under Gibsons belt they would get a little credit. But apparently there are more snobs out there than I realized. Screw it. I love my Epi.
or, its because youtube compress the sounds in the clips so hard it affect the sound.
@dbenc nope, its made for classic rock, if you want metal go with mesa's lonestar....
Crank it! I can hear you hitting the strings over the sound of the amp! And why does paul look like a harpy eagle? Seriously, look that up. I laugh everytime I see Paul's hair, and I'm a punk rocker!

this is what i dont like about mesa/boogie. they make some of the least expressive amps out there. theyre distortions have a great singing quality at full blast, but if you pick lightly or turn your volume knob down you end up in mud city. for the high gain stuff fender nailed it perfectly with the EVH amp.
At their prices, they ought to send over a private rodie to carry it for us :D
@slayerrulesyo their due for recycling...
Maybe they played through it and they didn't like the sound. So they middled the settings and just played.
hey its michael J fox! lol
@fezzard what does this even mean????
so true... lol
sadly true, in the other demo, the sound much better than this, really
the EVH stuff cost way more than Mesa
@asklcnvivdf i think he's trying a kate gosselin look. lmao
why does he use that guitar so much?
ha.. he kind of does look like fox
there isnt,
I wouldn't buy this amp based on this video...no way. I bet it sounds great, but this demo sound like doo doo.
Mesa has an extreme low end but this review does not sound that incredible for the $. At least comparing with previous amp reviews (sustain, character, etc).
If I was the owner of Mesa I would have deleted this video. The sound of this demo is a load of crap. A complete defamation of this great amp... Simply put it doesn't do justice to the Electradyne...
les paul custom = can't go wrong
!!
@gillan64 2 years old but this made me laugh cause the same thing went through my mind only correction being "korean" made but still on point. lmao. It does sound good though.
@gillan64 Good catch just noticed this is a 2010 vid. lol
... well, Fender didnt design the EVH amp, so dont give them too much credit! ;)
Paul does not know how to dial in a clean sound, I'm sorry, he may be a decent player, but come on! Learn to dial in a dam clean tone! So many reviews of amps/pickups have been ruined because of this.
The electra dyne is no where near the league of the diezel and the SLO.
Sure theres nothing wrong with it, but its not the real thing.
~JP
Why is he playing an epi? Thats an insult to the great Les Paul. Use a Gibson for crying out loud.
Why does Mesa always sound so stiff, cold and muddy. I've tried so many of their amps and they kind of sound like shit. Plus totally overpriced.
