  • Check out the first episode of Sailing BC where Adelle and Christopher go shopping for their first sailboat in Gig Harbour Washington USA during one of the coldest winters in decades. They need to battle extreme weather on the boat while they sail and motor their way back to Canada. Getting their boat surveyed, purchasing and then provisioning in the PNW (pacific northwest) near Seattle.

    Hint. Keep a real close eye on your keel bolts as they tend to work lose. Also, next time you haul out, use the Copper coat process. Yes, spendy up front, yet you will not have to do it again for at least 5-10 years. Just dive the boat and keep the green off. 😊😊

    • @Sailingbc
      @Sailingbc  3 місяці тому

      We are a little behind on editing but have done a haul out and bottom paint job. I used Pettit Odyssey Triton which am hoping to get 3-4 years. I watched @wesail recently do an episode on coppercoat and while a lot of work and expense, looks like a good option, especially while remote and less access to haul outs.

    Ahh, the innocent look of excitement. Just kidding. Glad you had a survey, they can save many tens of thousands of dollars or even complete failure. Really happy that you can manual chart plot, so many sailing channels now days poo poo that off because of laziness I guess (I can't do it so I have nothing to say, I just like the sailing channels thinking maybe one day...). I have used diesel fuel decades old, just a little polishing and additives, maybe not the best top end performance but no worries usually. I figure you replaced the water pump on the engine and it seems you did a lot to clean her up that is not shown on camera from 8 years even though it seems the original owner(s) took relatively good care of her. Add a couple of gallons of kerosene to your fuel tanks and change the fuel filters every couple of days when you run the engine.. and buy all new hose and belts , you need to get two everyone of the hose and belts anyway or maybe three belts with a spare alternator.. nice looking boat.

      Hi Dane, thanks for following. Boat prices may be a little higher up this way as inventory for similar age and size is very low. We paid $217k USD Prob on the high side but was literally brand new. 50 hours on the engine and still had packaging in the stove and microwave and mattresses still had the plastic wrap on. It also came with 2 brand new North Sails Gennakers that had never been used.

    Sailing is a disease...which I've had all my life! Having spent most of my early days building and sailing racing dinghies, a few years ago with two others I sailed an unloved 50ft Oyster back to the UK from Antigua........which was a whole new ball game! I wish you well on this new adventure, and look forward to watching your exploits.

      Hey Justin, thanks for commenting. I have had ink from instagram.com/evilkolors/ and instagram.com/jamesacrow/ who also just finished up a full back piece on Adelle. You won't see that until it warms up though. What's your boat name, maybe we will cross paths.

      I (chris) took Basic Cruising Standard and Coastal Navigation from Coopers boating in Vancouver. I also took a VHF radio course and am currently working my way through NauticEd online sailing school. I find it really good and not that expensive. While the coursework is online, they are partnered with sailing schools around the world that you can connect with to take the practical on water exam.

    Can you give a bit more info on the 5 day course you took?

    • @Sailingbc
      @Sailingbc  Рік тому

      We are in Canada and took a course from Sail Canada called Basic Cruising Standard from a local school in Vancouver called Coopers Boating. It is comparable to the American ASA 101-103 I believe. It was a 5 day trip with 3 other students and an instructor. We were on a 37' Dufor from the school. It was a very cool experience, living on board, going to different anchorages and following along with the course book. At the end of the 5 days we had a practical assessment and a written test to get certified. I think the cost was around $1500cdn and included all costs as well as food.

    Betteridge's Law of Headlines says no. Very sad.

    • @Sailingbc
      @Sailingbc  Рік тому

      Ah, yes I see what you are eluding to. If this were to be a news article, and if I happened to be a journalist, this would be a very inappropriate "headline". Fortunately, this is not news, there was no "headline", and I am not a journalist. When uploading, UA-cam asks for a "Title", not a "headline", and gives the following tip "A catchy title can help you hook viewers. When you create video titles, it’s a good idea to include keywords your audience is likely to use when looking for videos like yours." A title is the name of our movie and can be whatever the hell we want it to be. I think it is a great title for our first movie. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to watch the show and leave a comment, I am sorry it made you sad.

      I know, I sound like a muppet or something lol. I did get it checked out by a throat specialist years ago and have scarring on my vocal cords. I had a bike accident years ago that crushed my chest and the flap on my esophagus doesnt work very well. I get bad acid reflux sometimes that creeps up and causes it apparently.
