    What was that green thing you mentioned on the wall in your “garage”? I like the wood in the boat. Does it creak?👍

    • @SailingLoon
      @SailingLoon  9 місяців тому +1

      That was our EPIRB, it stands for “emergency position indicating radio beacon”. In the event of an emergency, it sends out & tracks our location for emergency services/help! Thank you, the wood is fairly creaky, I think on newer boats it isn’t nearly as bad.

    Have really enjoyed watching your channel. Great job! We are about to go full time ourselves and are looking into purchasing a Dometic frig/freezer so would love to hear your honest thoughts.

      Thank you for your support! We have a Dometic CFX 45 and it works very well on both fridge and freezer mode considering you can provide it with sufficient power. It is advertised to work on both 12V DC and 120V AC power but ours will not run on DC they slowly get warmer until we have no choice but to plug them into our inverter. After months of voltage testing and troubleshooting, we now have to constantly run our inverter and have them plugged into 120V power. Saying this we have met people who have had great experiences with theirs running on 12V power and a Dometic hardwiring DC kit is definitely something to look into and would hopefully solve the issues.

    Great tour. I have a 2007 Bavaria 37. I have a lot less storage space than you but you have given me some very good ideas! Thanks. I really wish I had that forward deck locker. Fair winds and following seas to you.

      Awesome, we love seeing fellow Bavaria's on the water, great boat you have! The forward deck locker is awesome, if we ever purchased a new boat we would definitely want it to have a locker like this. Thank you so much for watching :)

    We may or may not consider a wind generator. Pretty expensive relative to solar

    That little fitting on your heat exchanger under the "radiator cap" should go to a reservoir tank. This is not really an option but more like you need to get one on there. Also yes what did it cost to get it to the point you have it now. You started at 70 grand, did allot of work your self. Two heads and plumbing was well over a grand if not 2 and doing all that I would have gone fresh water not raw because the smell will come back.. At 20 + years old there had to be deck leaks, chain plates needed to be re bed and sealed, standing rig has aged in a hi UV and salt environment and that repower was.. well you bought a new plant retail, hired someone to install it and hired a crane to facilitate the install all in Florida. I am just going to take a educated guess on the repower. Give or take a few grand I put it at a conservative 20K. PLEASE please don't be one of those channels that glosses over the reality of owning a boat. It is hard, expensive and endless more so if you cant do ALL the work yourself. Two schools of thought here, if your dream is to get a boat and JUST sail it to exotic places you have the wrong dream. If you dream is to buy a boat and have something to work on most of the time, can do most of the work yourself (and lets face it you had to have the boat yard install new battery's) and occasionally visit exotic places a boat might just be for you. I put your total cost of buying it and to get it to this point some where around 100 to 120K without any of the travel or living expense.

    AGM batteries gotta go they are damn near useless at this point with how cheap lithium batteries are now.

    • @SailingLoon
      @SailingLoon  9 місяців тому

      AGM was by far the cheaper option for us, but with the far superior performance of lithium we would like to upgrade!
