Having experienced the level of detail in this and Crysis and then being plunged into the dark times of "streamlining the product for the wider audience" was a real kick in the ballsack and truly the end of an era.
THANK YOU for pointing out how much of a non-issues Malaria pills and jamming/breaking weapons are. People treat it as some of the game-ruining issues (aside from respawning patrols/outpost crews) but they are more of a slight annoyances providing a solid increase in immersion. I don't think I ever had a weapon explode for me, and they rarely jam unless I use some very low durability weapon for a very long time. Admittedly though - your G3-KA3 check was a bit biased, since it's one of the most durable weapons in the game heh. At least it has THAT going for it, considering it's close to trash in actual combat due to it's negligible damage and average accuracy.
It is a REALLY special game, played it since i was a kid. Loved everything about this game as it is actually really fun when it comes to its realism part
When it comes to stealth the machete makes enemies scream, a silenced headshot is your go to for complete stealth, which is why stealth combat is a more fun experience. Though the dart rifle, silenced smg and shotgun is the pinnacle loadout. Think about it, how are you gonna silently take down an enemy with a machete, a weapon used for hacking and slashing? Piercing is not an option.
well i actually do think malaria gives you a debuff but only at the near end stage of the game where you can't no longer return to the main area, your stamina runs out much faster and i think your jump height is also lower, malaria attack also appears more but since you can't return to the main area to get more pills the game just gives you infinite pills
Far Cry 2 doesn't give a shit about your time and energy and it's one of the best things there is. You are not a superhero, just another dumdum with a gun trying to live like the others doing missions for blood diamonds. The agency that sent you there in the first place doesn't care if you live or die as far as you get the mission done and they aren't giving you any help what so ever. I've been having a lot of fun tho playing Far Cry 2 multiplayer on dedicated server. All healing animations are there and weapons can even get jammed in multiplayer which definitely makes it awesome and unique. This game will forever have a special place in my heart for being the unforgiving experience it is.
I have to say that you have it wrong with stealth. It's simply more realistic than in most games. Most games either use it as a central game mechanic in the case of stealth games or immersive sims or it's simple empowerment against more or less defenseless enemies. Cleaning out whole outposts like that isn't exactly very believable or interesting gameplay-wise. In Far Cry 2 it's part of the simulation. It involves the AI, weather conditions, your equipment, perception and so on. Stealth in FC2 is not meant to be the be-all end-all that lets you clean out all outposts. It is supposed to help you pick off some enemies before full battle erupts. Or to simply evade enemies. After all, there is rarely any point in actually fighting anyone.

I kinda wish it had more time in the oven. to fully do the buddies properly, that reputation system. also, if the game came with the years later improved weapon balance patch and that outpost mod that also makes weapon slots better and makes the jump button work. also, 2:30 you can actually finish the whole game without doing a single medicine side quest but they do run out and you can actually kinda a bit soft lock the game if you dont have a buddy ready and you just had your "warning" stroke/ pass out. or maybe it was just bad luck on the ps3 back in my day. yeah I played the game more than 6 times over the years on 4 different pc's and a ps3 and every time I see or learn something that I havent seen. also, Frank is the best side buddy just because of his funny lines, don't even fight me, that's true. warning, this video has a far cry 6 jump scare at 6:30, why you pull a fast one on us, dog?

That sense of vulnerability is mostly gone in the latest entries, which are just designed to make you feel unstoppable.
