There's something very satisfying about unclogging a drain and seeing the water level drop. Every neighborhood needs someone like you to keep the drains open!
In most cities, the adjacent property owner is responsible for keeping storm sewers open. The adjoining property owners are usually the ones putting grass clippings and leaves in the gutter.
@@MattTheNomad I live in a rural area, and along with some of my neighbors we try to keep the drains clear near our houses. Most often it just takes a few minutes with a rake, hoe or shovel. After all, we're the ones who benefit. I'd rather have my local highway workers taking care of the bigger problems.
If water smells like sewage, please be careful not to get sick. You are a wonderful person to do this, but you can't help others if you don't take care of yourself.
Great public service and at least you helped keep half the road clear. Like others have said, don't put your hands in there. You really don't know what you're touching - it could be sewerage. You also do not want to be accidentally pricked by a discarded needle. Wear thick gloves, or better still, stick to the rake. More please and stay safe.
Keeping it local, I was born in Detroit, your awesome l hope you start a UA-cam channel for lawn care just watching this video tells me you could make big bucks doing that too! Keep up the great work!
First! What a huge clog! When you were walking towards those bubbling grates it looked like the bubbles were coming towards you. Very freaky and cool. I am glad that the citizens are being careful driving passed you. Good job for getting it done.
Looks like a collapsed drain there because of the rows of bubbles coming along away from the drain and into the grass bank on the far side. Maybe that’s why the city had temporarily covered the drain on that side? Great job and a real help for your community buddy 💦👍🏻🏳️🌈😷👍🏻💦
Unlikely. The spacing implies there is an odd configuration of a drain on each side and one in the center of the road. Given the area is clearly a dip in the topography it makes sense to have more even if it's done in an odd way. Either way he's clearly having much more fun watching the whirlpool than actually clearing the flood - he paws at the drain like my brother clumsily paws at cleaning dishes 😅
It would be interesting to see where that water was draining to and see it flowing out. 5:30 becarefull when using uncovered hands especialy if there is sewage mixed with that water. Maybe get some long heavy duty rubber gloves to protect yourself from any contaminents :)
Thank you for sharing your charitable work/ I must admit I am astonished by the huge amount of water which appears in the streets of a major US city without apparent action by the local authorities to resolve what is obviously a persistent problem. Seems to me that the USA is becoming a third world nation and you need to get rid of your current local government representatives .
Infrastructure is one of those unsexy words that people never really understand why they need to pay for year over year. All the money goes to the cops and fire dept before public works sees anything
Water goes in with air air comes out. Dads old house in Louisville 1 or 2 days a week when wind changed direction the whole neighborhood smelt like sh.
Happy you searched for more than one drain on this one, & if it smells like sewage all the more reason to NOT put your bare hands in the water, like the videos but not at the risk of you catching something 🙄
Get yourself some thick, heavy duty elbow length rubber gloves, streets are nasty and that water is crawling with bacteria-all it takes is one small cut and you can get a horrible infection, some people even get sepsis and die from bacteria getting into small cuts and not getting cleaned right away. Stay safe!
Does the town/city council not send out work crews when problems like this occur. I’ve seen so many people all over the world being civic minded and clearing drains like these off their own back. Thank you for doing this wherever you live.
The OCD in me loses it when he doesn't perfectly clean it at the very beginning...instead choosing to wait almost until the end. Still, great feel good videos, loves your stuff!.
dang dude with the bare hands, it could be glass, needles, raw sewage in there. You can see the motor oil swirling. Gotta look out for #1, stay safe. Love your work! Keep it up
What amazes me it a private citizen will take their time to go and remove the debris to clear this up when paid city/county employees don’t do their job and take care of this. What do they do? Rather than clean it, they put up caution signs not to drive through the area. Probably took this guy what 10 minutes to clear this up? He needs to be REIMBURSED for his time for every one he clears up.
Wherever you find a street drain on one side of the street, the odds are very good you will find another street drain *Directly Across the Street* from the found drain. Clear them both.
Mark ur drains when it’s not raining so u know we’re they are at when u need to know not on the ground call the city about the one not working ask for some one that take. Care of drains
I would not put my phone in that water. All the oils and engine fluid leaks from the street are within those waters. Good job but keep your phone safe too.
Would love to see this area again. Can you not do a video clearing out the gutter and curb area of all the weeds and grass? And also clear and edge the sidewalk? It would look good and also should help stop the road flooding in future.
I hope the people cleaner the friend before the rein and kip the rabish or grass short close to the Friend tank you for you care and hart work in helping the Commuinitys 😇😇😇😇⭐️⭐️⭐️

I agree. I saw one of the videos where after the street was drained down there was a dead animal. Stay safe while you are doin good work my friends

Every neighborhood does have someone like this....they are called city workers but unfortunately most government workers are LAZT and INCOMPETENT

@@tomketchum5655 TO some extent I say Yes. The City SHOULD BE out With street Sweepers, After the leaves are off the trees.
If that water smells like sewage you should have gloves on . Who knows what disease you could catch . Please be safe . Your doing a great job .
Gov whitmer must be giving a speech nearby
Agree, please please do have gloves on, thank you very much to what you do. Be safe and God bless!
GLOVES GLOVES GLOVES. omg.
If water smells like sewage, please be careful not to get sick. You are a wonderful person to do this, but you can't help others if you don't take care of yourself.
your'e right he should buy some gloves, & use his boots & rake to declog the drain. Use a camera stand just like POST 10.
Walks up with a rake … and uses his hands to dig into unknown waters. Be careful there, you’re doing important work.
😂😂😂😂

Gloves, gloves, gloves, man! 😨 If it smells like raw sewage, it just might *contain* raw sewage! Take care of yourself and stay well.
Those bubbles are the infamous Detroit sewer gators. Be careful
🎶 That's the sound of the men working on the Drain Gang...🎶
Nice job!! Amazing the people that live nearby don't get out and spend 20 minutes watching the street drain! I always love to unplug a grate.
I know post 10 is jealous of that gurgling drain!
😄 agreed

I agree, was waiting for post 10 to scream fearing a beaver was going to attack lol
nuh uh...ain gonna do it without gloves..... Yeah, Ima wuss.... raw sewage too? Oh heck no!
Don't worry the Sewage has been cooked to medium well 🤔😂
There could be something sharp or even a needle under there. Please be careful! Just drag the rake back and forth and it'll open up.
I appreciate what he does but like you said, it’s a real chance a needle could be down there. Gloves. Gloves.

Saw that first surge from the middle of the road and thought SHARK!!!!!!
Got to love a street draining video! Thanks for this! Please stay safe.
I do applaud the effort put forth. Im at work watching this...
Wow, that's one of the best drainage videos I've seen in ages 👍
Thanks for helping out! I know that DDOT driver was glad!! Also the air pockets and the double swirl was pretty cool!!
Renews my faith in humanity, thank you for helping out.

@@huma474 But....`45 had planned to help the infrastructure for 4 years. At the end of his term it still was in planning!
Thanks for taking the steps for a safe neighborhood
I don't understand why the People who live here, don't do anything by themselves
Please please use gloves. You could get any type of infection from that water. Good job you're doing.
you r right
Infections is gonna be the last thing he’s gonna be worried about if he get pricked by a discarded heroin needle.
It's hard to watch sometimes 😕

Yeah if he has a cut
Great job , not only for unclogging but doing it in the first place !!! Didn't understand about wood covering other drain ?

I used to clear drains as a kid.....WAAAY before UA-cam! :)
So you brought the double bubble... who's bringing the toil and the trouble? Mwuahahaha
Is that a metal rake I see 👀😲😲
I’m a new subscriber to your channel watching from Honolulu Hawaii, thank you for doing this to your community …… god blessed you
Water goes in with air air comes out.

Fun and satisfying! Thank you. Why air bubbles? From sewage manhole covers?
Thank you for the clearings this day. They should make you Mayor of this place! God bless you! ❤😊
Subscribed from the UK. Good work I love these videos :)
Wow that was a lot of water! Great job! Stay safe and stay healthy!
dude, dont use your bare hands in the water. There alot of used needles in the streets of detroit.
Do you report these to the city? If so, do they come out and repair them? Your doing an amazing work Thank you.

So much for playing Never Have I Ever and the statement is "...gotten cholera."
OMG, Love this. I've never seen an air pocket before.
The whole place is over run with grass and weeds, not shocking it’s getting clogged
Those bubbles coming up are usually from sewer drains. The neighborhood probably doesn't have sewer and drainage separated.
Great job! Greetings from Berlin, Germany
Be safe. Hope you didn't get sick with that sewage. ✌🏼
Job well done! Please make sure to protect yourself with wearing gloves. 💯👍😎
very satisfying! good job! now if only the camera movement didn’t almost give me an epileptic episode lol

Don't stick your hands down there ‼️ there could be some dirty syringes. And you could get stuck and infected.🤔😃🤷🏽😱
Too bad you can't put a mark somewhere so you can find the sewers easier next time your there.
I'm amazed why the people in the neighborhood don't keep the drains clean
The air pockets were cool and unusual.
Great work! But where the hell was the City???
dang dude with the bare hands, it could be glass, needles, raw sewage in there. You can see the motor oil swirling. Gotta look out for #1, stay safe. Love your work! Keep it up
What is the total elapsed time from when you arrived to when the road cleared? The video is less than 12 minutes. How long did it really take?
Great but you move camera too much
Real big of the city workers to put down an orange cone instead of fixing the problem.
So therapeutic and satisfying to do. Nice.
Be very careful, you don't know what's in the trash on those drain grates
Water therepy for the Mind Brilliant Keep em comming & Good luck 👍
Great job x
how long were you there for?
City need hire this guy. Most citys workers lazy as hell

Got motion sickness within 30 sec. You need a tripod.
I'm surprised that they put up traffic cones, but couldn't be bothered to try and clear the drains.
Great job
You gotta be careful sticking your hands in that mess.
nice video dude, get a pair of gloves, and get a phone holder.AND whole video plz!
The air pockets were freaky. I alwyays love to do this stuff.
this looks like sewage, please keep your hands, or any skin area out of this water. infections
Just keep rakin’. Just keep rakin’!

It's GoPro I think.
They need the draining-systems that we have here in Sweden. Stones that are sloping in a angle towards big drains. They nevercget blocked!
Sad to see that most of the draining problems are due to littering!

Nice job why were their bubbles coming from different directions.
Other than bad weather and trash clogging the drains which flood our communities, what are some other causes?
Thanks
Man you need to get the lawns edged over there that ways the durrt and grass wont get stuck in them.
the bubbles are always great vs the whirlpool
awesome job one drain is across from the. Other side
I wanna know more about the bubbles coming from the sidewalk
Bro made whirlpool army
I'm wondering if there is a drain on the other side?
And then you answered my question.

So many of the weeping tile drains in metro detroit, sewage and storm are at some point connected, I would put my bare hands in any of that water.
That was a great job 😊
there is going to be a day that you think , airclog but it is actually a demon looking for uncloggers.
awesome job👌
