Writing this here so you'll definitely see it. Look up "Theraband Flexbar". It's relieved me from YEARS of elbow pain. Hate to see this black band that's mostly psychological support.
You know it amazes me what you’re able to accomplish in a two car garage. It’s a testament to discipline and skills. Always enjoy your stuff although I don’t comment very often. Hope you’re doing well, buddy.
Thank Chris! Great to hear from you - hope you had a wonderful holiday. I've never had a big space to work out of before, so I've just become accustomed to using every possible inch of space and tripping over everything all the time 😂. And I promise the French cleat wall mention is coming 😬🤦🏼♂️.
Yea I feel like you can do a lot in a 2 car when it's a dedicated space no storage or kids bikes haha
Just think about what you want to accomplish with what you have and it will happen. If you think about “I don’t have enough space” or “I don’t have this tool” you won’t get much done.
He probably has $50,000’s of tools and equipment, should be able to build anything!
@@abbbee8918 Last time I checked, the tools don't operate on their own. Thanks for completely discounting skill, knowledge and experience.
31:58 That moment you realize the floor isn’t as level as your work or love.
Beautiful piece and design! How could she *not* love it?!?!
Haha. Yeah, it need a few pieces of cardboard to level it off 😂
I like how you said "MINIMIZE any mistakes" instead of "eliminate any mistakes". Best mentality to have as a woodworker...mistakes CAN and WILL happen. :)
Very true! 🤙🏼😎
Brother you are the best furniture designer out there. I haven’t seen one thing you’ve made have any short cuts. As always I look forward to your videos. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much! That means a lot. I definitely try to create pieces that will last a long time.
You’re a cool uncle. I’m sure your relatives look forward to things you build for them. Thanks for sharing your talents with the UA-cam community.
Thanks Greg! It's always fun to make things for family! 😄
I wasn't completely sold on the top caps until I saw the finished bookcase. It really does tie the whole thing together, having brass down low and up high. Great work!
Thanks! I wasn't completely sold either at first...it was definitely a gamble considering how much they cost. But it worked!
The quality and craftsmanship that go into this bookcase are worth every penny. Thanks for sharing your expertise, Keith! 💯
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
The brass accents really make that piece pop, Keith! Beautiful!
Thanks man! Definitely the cherry on top!
So true with Thixo, Keith! Once it cures, there's no changing it. Glad Pete was able to help out to creat this stunning bookcase for your niece 🙌🙌
Thanks so much! Definitely needed that extra set of hands for that glue-up. If only I could train Jerry to run the camera 😹
Total Boat, baby! 😅
Another great video Keith. Your niece is certainly very fortunate to have a generous and creative Uncle. You do such a great job documenting your work. Can't wait for the next one. Happy New Year!
Thank you! She was extremely grateful and excited about her new workspace, which makes me so happy 😁
What I like about your channel is, not only do you have a very diverse group of furniture types, but also a very diverse wood selection. I've watched many other channels that are similar and they're often a bit of one trick ponies, doing only one type of furniture and just walnut. I'm a bit burnt out on all the walnut, it's nice to see oak and ash and others. And you're entertaining.
Thanks! Walnut is definitely my favorite, but making the same or similar piece over and over is a total drag - I need to mix it up for my own sanity. Glad to hear you agree. Cheers!
Beautiful work, Keith. Your work, as always, is very meticulous and professional. A joy to watch. You are one of my favourite You Tubers to watch.
I really appreciate you saying that! Thanks Larry!
Beautiful work. Even when you question yourself, things come together wonderfully. So happy to Lola doing so well too. I'm sure Jerry is glad she's back too.
Thanks so much! Yeah, Jerry was all out of sorts without his baby sister 😻
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I used to have a brother and sister pair. The sister was attacked by a coyote and we almost lost her. But she survived and went on for another 4 years. Her brother was always looking for her while she was in the hospital. After he passed she managed another 9 months before she joined him. They were about 16 years old. I really miss them too. I hope you have many, many years of joy with Lola and Jerry. I love their personalities.
@@bjsmith4790 That's so sad to hear, but shows how powerful of a bond these animals can have with each other. 16 years is a long life that I hope Jerry and Lola are fortunate enough to achieve. Lola is a miracle of modern veterinary science and we are thankful for every day we get with her. Cheers!
The amount of skill shown in just one build is astounding. Thanks for the tip with the kettlebell, I was wondering about a good way to handle that situation.
Appreciate the kind words! And glad the kettlebell tip was helpful.
Great looking build that I'm sure will last much longer than any store bought alternative. I love how simplisticly beautiful it is. - Chris
You said it, Chris! Store-bought just doesn't have the same charm or life-span 💪
Only recently found your channel Keith, but I've been binge-watching and enjoying your craftsmanship, sense of humor, and video production skills. Immensely entertaining and informative - thanks and can't wait to see all your other videos! I'm beginning to suspect that once the cameras are off, Jerry may be doing some of the trickier joinery.
👍👍👍
Appreciate the compliments! It is greatly appreciated. And it's always great to hear from new viewers who appreciate Jerry's contributions as much as I do 😜😻
The way you explained this made it so easy to understand. 🧠
🤙🏼😎
Beautiful job. The bookshelf is a perfect companion to the desk. Your niece is a beautiful young lady who is so lucky to have such a talented uncle.
I appreciate that! She's the best! And they really do complement each other well. 🙌🏻
I always enjoy seeing your videos pop up when I open UA-cam. I keep a list of the things you talk about ranging from adjustments you make on the fly to your original design to some of the details such as the 1/32" round over to break the corners. Thanks for sharing the thoughts that go into these decisions and the tools and techniques you use to achieve them.
I’m glad you find value in my process! Thanks so much for the feedback and watching my videos. Happy New Year!
You do very nice work. I've enjoyed watching your projects. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much for watching!
The thing I love the most about woodworking is the final look of a finished piece. Theres nothing quite like a well built wooden piece of furniture done right the mass production stuff will never look this good. Theres a company in South Africa that makes some stunning pieces of furniture its semi mass production each piece has a team of people who build it and its just perfection. Also very expensive but definitely worth it because with the right maintainance it will outlast us all.
Thanks so much for the comment! And you're right, even small scale production pieces can be of extremely high quality!
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Have a look at the Weylandts website youll see some amazing crafts had the honor of buying a 5 bedroom home's worth of furniture from the owner and each piece was just so beautifully done.
Awesome build! I just bought the X1C and found so many things to print that helps me in the shop.
That’s great to hear! I never thought I would get so much use out of it.
The two pieces look absolutely fantastic with one another, and the sap wood was a good call on those drawer fronts. The small touches of brass are a treat as always. Great work all in a home shop! Love it! Especially as someone who works wood out of his kitchen....
Awesome, thank you! I appreciate the thoughtful comment. And it sounds like you definitely have me beat working out of a kitchen! Wow!
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking lol, I'm a bachelor, so bandsaw on the kitchen table works just fine for me.
Jerry stole the show! 😻 stunning end product as usual and I loved seeing the process
Jerry always brings the laughs - he loves to be the center of attention! 😂 And thanks so much for the kind words!
Great way to start a New Year KJ, It's a lovely, and she will enjoy the years to come.❤
Thanks so much! I hope she loves it as much as I enjoyed building it!
Wonderful Job! She will proudly pass that on to one of her lucky children one day!
Thanks! And I hope so! 😀
Stunning shelf, Keith! Truly amazing work!!! 😃
Happy new year!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks so much! Happy New Year to you and your family as well!
Love Jerry’s contribution 😂
Always the star of the show 😹
KJ, My word. Your thought/layout process is something I aspire to. Stunning work as always!!!
Thanks man! Super appreciate it 😎
I like how you explain everything your doing(good and mistakes).
Thanks, I try to be as transparent as possible! I appreciate the feedback 👍
It's always so relaxing to watch such a beautiful piece of furniture come to life! Thanks Keith!
Thanks John! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤙🏼😎
I like how you rigged up the Jessem to work on your new Harvey fence. I got a Harvey TS about a year ago and haven't yet taken the time to figure out how to get my Jessem on there, but I no longer need to figure that out, thanks! :) I also need to figure out how to rig up my L fence and/or one of those tall panel fence things that I used to use to slide along my old fence.
Thanks! Yeah, I need to rework my L-fence as well. Kinda bummed about that 😂
Fabulous build. Love the music throughout. Had a wee shoulder shuffle for a while there! Great fun. Those brass caps were such a class addition. Well done. Happy New Year.
Awesome! Thank you! So glad you were able to get your groove on while watching 😉. Happy New Year!
I've been trying to incorporate brass in a few projects I've done, (inspired by you) But i made the mistake of sanding after the brass was installed, and of course, created a hump. Anyway, it looks amazing 👏 Great work!
Thanks so much for the kind words! If you are using softer woods like pine, then you will definitely get a hump since the brass is harder than the wood around it. Using hardwoods like oak, walnut, ash, etc. will minimize that issue.
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Ew Pine! 😆 No, it was definitely walnut. I think I just over sanded
Happy New Year to you, really nice project. Looks fantastic.
Thanks Colin! Much appreciated 👍🏼😎
The set came out so beautifully! And well made great job Keith!❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Talk about lifetime furniture! Wow. Very nice. Happy New Year KJ!
Thanks so much! And Happy New Year to you, too!
Beautiful work as always, Keith. Happy New Year.
Thanks, much appreciated! Happy New Year to you, too!
Love the cat content, and yes, please build some bespoke cat furniture next 😂
Thanks Sara! There's a strong possibility my next build will feature some feline related details 😉
@29:00 THANK YOU for showing this!!!! I was going insane with my drawer fronts losing their gaps once I removed the spacers and thought I was the only one experiencing this. Everyone on Youtuve does the same thing, so how come mine is always messed up LOL
LOL! Right? Glad to hear I’m not the only one. Hopefully the tip helps with your installations. 🤙🏼😎
Really beautiful piece, Keith~! The desk & the shelf unit look great with the Ash & brass.
Happy New Year~!
Appreciate that! Happy New Year to you, too!
Wow! That turned out incredible and you are an amazing uncle!
Thanks very much! Her excitment and smiles instantly paid the bill 😉
Perfect accompaniment for that desk! Happy New Year to you, too!
It's definitely a fun way to start the year! Happy New Year to you, too!
Absolutely stunning, sir. Thank you for showing us your work, and making such beautiful videos. I only wish YT would do more to promote work like yours
Thank you so much for the kind words! And UA-cam is a constantly changing entity, but always hoping for that bigger audience as you mentioned! 😁
Really enjoyed this, Keith! Happy New Year!

Wow, thanks!
Nice Keith
Your niece must be very happy to have an uncle like that.
I would like that for myself too.
Thanks so much! She was very appreciative and loves her new workspace!
Crazy how much work went into a relatively simple looking piece.
That’s what I said when I was all finished! 😂
Talent. Love watching your videos for the learning experience.
Thank you! I'm glad you find them helpful.
Beautiful work as always!
Happy new year!
Thank you! You too!
Beautiful again my friend… love the ask with the brushed brass!
Thanks Fantin! Sometimes those last minute design decisions can have a big impact. 😎
Amazing work, as usual. I NEVER get tried of your videos.
I appreciate that! Glad you're still enjoying the channel! 😎
It's always a good day for a Keith Johnson video!
My man! Thanks Derek. Hope you enjoy it!
Happy New Year! Does your niece realize how blessed she is? You are amazing! What will you build next for her ... maybe a bed or a closet?
Happy New Year! And yes, she is quite appreciative and thankful for her new "home office" 😉
I so enjoy your videos. Always entertaining as well as beautiful work. I hope Lola is doing well.
Thank you so much! Lola is doing great, thanks for the well wishes! 😻
Hi Keith,
Happy New Year! Always a pleasure when one of your videos drops. I come for the clever ways you fix problems because I seem to be very good at inventing them myself, and the cats of course. At least the cats didn’t disappoint ;^). All in all a very nice if understated piece. The brass adds a bit of style without being intrusive. All the best for a healthy, happy, and productive 2025.
Cheers,
Keith
Happy New Year to you as well, Keith! And thanks so much for the kind words and thoughtful comment. Maybe this year we won't invent as many problems for ourselves 😜
I can't believe how much I learned from this. Subscribed! 🔔
Wow! That's so great to hear. Glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to the channel! 🙌😎
Fantastic work as always, Keith. Thank you for sharing.
Really appreciate that - thanks for watching!
Great job Keith! 😃👍🏼👊🏼
Thanks Fred! 👊🏻
Love the video! The work is great as always.
Awesome! Thanks so much!
Very lucky niece. Beautiful work!
Thanks very much!
Thanks for sharing, Keith. I love the detailed work you always put in - I learn something from your videos even if I repeat it.
Besides the quality of work, I’m wondering how the Harvey table saw performs 😉..
Cheers!!
Thanks so much! That's wonderful to hear that you find value in my videos. And it's actually a Harvey fence on a SawStop. Fence is great. Only complaint is you have to slide it all the way off the rails to remove it. You can just lift it off like the SawStop fence.
Gotcha.. I thought it was interesting not to see a saw stop.
Thank you, Keith. I admire your discipline and dedication. 👏🏻🙏👍💪
Wow beautiful set, lovely work Keith :)
Thanks so much! 👍🏼
Always a good day when KJ posts a new one
Appreciate that, my man! 👊🏼
Love it! next time more Luke voiceovers! also great thinking on the little camera light for lighting inside the cabinet. need to get one.
Yeah buddy! Luke has officially signed on as the voice of Jerry and will start voicing Lola on a trial basis as well 😸😸. And those dimmable square lights are perfect for those dark spaces. 🔦
Beautiful work as always Keith.
Thanks Jeremy! Much appreciated, my man! 👊🏻
The kettle bell in the drawer is a very inspired move. I have experienced the drooping problem too.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one. It took me quite a few drawers to figure out what the heck was going on 😂
wax paper trick works on closet rods too, hangers will slide smoother, used to do that one in retail
Oh yes! Great tip there as well. Hadn't thought of that before 👍
With all the channels using walnut and white oak, nice to see use of a different species. I would like to see a build out of mahogany. I love the smell, the workability of it. It can look 3 dimensional with the right finish.Love your projects and designs.cheers
Thanks man! Ash is definitely a departure for me, but I might have another project for it in a few months. Unfortunately, nobody asks for mahogany or cherry anymore.
Nice to watch a "simple" build from you. That is if one were to skip the minute details. How you conjeur up the same intensity for a bookshelf as for an intricate one of a kind whiskey cabinet, is the mark of a true craftsman that takes pride on everything they make.
Happy New Year.
P.S. is the music new or did i miss it in previous videos?
Either way i like it.
It's always a goal to bring the same level of passion and challenge to every build, otherwise I get bored 😂. Thanks for following along!
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking your videos are on my very short list of "must watch".
Keep em coming!
Love the internal monologue bit!! More of that :D o and yeah, the woodworking was also ok, I guess!
😹 Definitely more of that to come!
Great job as always !
Thanks man!
This came out very classy. Nice touches, sir! My daughter wants to know when Uncle Keith is coming to set her up.
Haha. Thanks my man! Couldn’t have done it without those drawings! 👊🏼
Another amazing build!
Thanks man!
I just ordered an A1combo, can't wait to start using it
Awesome! I think you're gonna love it!
Nice build, nice design!
Thank you sir!
Great video as always! Would you be able to share the STL files for the lamp and shade or a link to where you got them? Thanks!
Thanks so much! All links are in the video description 👍🏻
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Thanks, Keith! I promise I looked there first but somehow didn't see them on my phone 🤦♂.
@msudawgs163 All good!
Love your videos and your work Keith. The level of detail you put into your pieces is inspiring. I have noticed you have the new Harvey fence installed on your sawstop and was wondering if you had to drill any holes in your cast iron in order to install it? I have been considering getting one myself but am a little weary of drilling into the cast iron if it’s required. Thanks for any info!
The Harvey fence didn't need any modifications to my SawStop rails - that's the beauty of it! It took a bit get it installed, but no cast iron was harmed during installation 😜
Happy New year, Keith and family! Wishing you a succesful 2025 with many new fun projects!
Like the new addition of Jerry getting a voice :) ...Absolutely beautiful cabinet for your niece, I think Lola and Jerry approved too and would have liked to keep it in the shop to have a better view while you work haha
Question: Is that coating also to protect from discolering the wood over time?
Happy New Year to you, too! Thanks for the well wishes. The LED finish is a hard wax oil, so it won’t do anything to protect discoloration over time, unfortunately.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Oh, interesting, I thought it would as it is cured with the UV light as well. Thanks for the answer! Can't wait for the next video!
I wish I could get a bookshelf from you, coz your work is breathtaking
Thank you so much! I've never had my work referred to as breathtaking before! 🙏🙌
Man, you build really nice stuff.
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Nice work!!. I noticed that the Hammer combo machine had a plywood insert on the planer bed. Could you elaborate as to why this was? Is the hammer planer bed out of acceptable flatness?
The bed will only go to a thickness of 1/4", so the plywood essentially makes the bed thicker and allows you to run thinner pieces of material through.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Makes sense. Thanks so much.
Nice work Keith! I could use a 1/4" dado blade for cutting the drawer box grooves. Any idea where I could purchase one? I have also put the Bamboo Labs A1 Combo on my list for the near future. I can think of dozens of things I can use that for in my new shop.
Yes, you can buy it directly from Infinity Tools: infinitytools.com/products/infinity-tools-8-flat-top-dado-saw-blade-5-8-bore. And so glad to hear you might enter the 3D printing world - you won't regret it!
Love the Star Wars helmet! Was that Boba Fett or The Mandalorian? Awesome build too by the way! 🙌🏼 Uncle of the year award goes to you Keith 🥳
Thank you sir! Not sure on the helmets, as those weren’t my prints 🤷🏼♂️😎
Great job Sheldon 🎉
😂 Thanks!
I am behind on the podcast, so I just finished the episode where you were discussing wishing you'd gone with white oak over ash for the desk, so I am curious to see if making this matching bookcase will provide the same level of frustration.
After all was said and done, I was actually very happen with the Ash and white oil finish!
Beautiful Keith, Love the brass accents. Quick question I have a bambu printer PS1 what program do you use to design you’re mockups .( the brass caps. )
Thanks, Happy New Year’s and have a Great Sunday… 😎
Thanks! I outsource all my design work, but they use Fusion 360. 👍
Happy New Year, Keith! Beautiful piece but how could you take Jerry and Lola’s new tower away? Lol. Did you make sure the cap had enough poxy and then enough epoxy just to be safe? Lol I thought the record skipped for a second. You always do fantastic work. Love your videos.
Happy New Year! Sometimes Jerry and Lola don't get what they want. And by sometimes, I mean rarely 😹
Happy New Year KJ! Another great video. I may have missed it in the description, but do you have a recommendation for a vacuum bag? It doesn't have to be your specific one, but if there's a junk one I should stay away from, that would be helpful too. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! Here is a link to the bag that I use: www.veneersupplies.com/products/VS-Elite-Polyurethane-Vacuum-Bag-2-x-4.html and the pump: www.vacupress.com/product/compact-300-vacupress-pump-3cfm/
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking My man! Thanks for the link. Now...just to tell the wife I "need" this...Cheers.
Well done as usual… I really like the grain of that ash, and it looked like it took the finish well without any blotchy spots, if I were to use ash and wanted a rustic light grey color, what would you recommend?
Thanks! I generally try to keep the natural color of woods I use, so I don't have any experience coloring Ash. Depending what type of finish or stain you use, I suggest buying some samples to try and achieve the color you are looking for.
Great video as always. How do you like that Harvey Big Eye fence? That looks like a better version of the Uni Fence.
It's great. And I love the adjustable flip stops.
Beautiful craftsmanship as always KJ! Do you leave the epoxy in the caulking gun until next times use?
Thanks Joey! The tips are 1-use only as that epoxy will harden to full cure in 30-40 minutes. So, I just leave the tip on to keep air from getting into the tube and then just swap out a fresh tip the next time I use it.
Your niece is turning out to be your best client yet
She’s a veritable gold mine! 🤑
Very well done! PS. Happy New Year! :)
Thanks so much! Happy New Year to you as well!
you should use your3d printer to print out dominos for dry fitting. it makes the dry fits significantly easier.
I have actually!
thanks to that demanding supervisor you have, you do nice work
Haha, he can be a handful sometimes! 😂
When planning a project, how do you figure the cost of veneer/core vs hardwood? It figures that hardwood is more expensive, but less time/labor than veneer. What is the line you think about to to decide which method to use? Thanks!
The line for this one was wood movement. Solid wood shelves would have been a joinery challenge with posts and side rails to account for.
Hi Keith. For the plywood veneer you made, why make it instead of buying oak/walnut/ash etc veneer? Is it cheaper to make or just better? Love to the shop cats 🐈⬛
As I mentioned with the veneer I bought for the drawer bottoms...it's never the same as the solid wood stock you are using and becomes a finishing challenge to get them to match.
Thanks Keith. Never tried it before as I’ve always done either solid panels or paid a load for oak/walnut ply. I think I may give your idea a try! What kind of pump do you use to pull the air out of the bags used to glue up the ply in?
@@MrMe6104 Here's the vac pump. It's quite pricey, but works great and you can toggle between "auto cycle" or "continuous run." I'm sure they are cheaper solutions out there as well. www.vacupress.com/product/compact-300-vacupress-pump-3cfm/
