Really recommend starting from season 1
As someone who’s young enough to have missed out on Who, but old enough to have been introduced to it around the end of David’s era, it’s (although understandable), so weird to hear this!
Though you’ve been a bit spoiled on the Doctor Donna, getting to see seasons 1-4 play out in sequence and getting to that conclusion of David’s era is a whole other beauty. If you wish to venture forth, I salute you, there are so many loveable characters and stories to delve into and I envy you getting to watch it for the first time :))
Each Doctor is familiar and feels like the same Time Lord, whilst still bringing a fresh and slightly different take on the character every time!
i also recommend a rewatch of Clara & 12’s seasons as a binge because it works so much better that way at least for me. And season 10 with bill works so well.
It's a shame that a lot of people seem to dismiss Capaldis era on rewatches. While his first two seasons were often up and down in quality, his great stories are easily top ten for modern who. Mummy on the Orient express, Heaven sent,the doctor falls two parter. Plus the second best Christmas special with husbands of river song.
12th doctor is by best doctor of new who and Clara was better with 12 ur missing out

There are 3 David specials, and then Ncuti’s Christmas special follows it! It’s not been announced when his first full season will air next year, but they’re already filming his S2, so it shouldn’t be too long at all :))
And yes, even though I love Capaldi as the Doctor, and Missy’s time in his run, I personally wasn’t a huge fan of Clara/11 (which doesn’t help coming off’ve the deaths of Rory and Amy😅). Still, I think Moffat put more care into her with Capaldi and Bill was a loveable guest of the TARDIS, too :))

Yes! There are three specials, the first aired the Saturday just gone, the second is on Saturday December 2nd and the third is on Saturday December 9th so THREE consecutive Saturdays and then Ncuti's first episode will be on Christmas Day and his first full series (which will be 8 Episodes) will be in early 2024!

4:52 Funny you should mention the MCU since this story is adapted from a 1980 comic strip called Doctor Who and the Star Beast which was published by the UK arm of Marvel Comics. It even had 'Stan Lee Presents' at the beginning of each part.

I absolutely adore River Song! I love that you have transcripts of her scenes in the diary. I have one that I'm filling with autographs from Doctor Who actors. Alex Kingston was the first one to sign it, immediately followed by Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan. It was a dream come true, and I'm getting Matt Smith's this weekend, so the Pond family will be complete!

Really liked this episode, it was a perfect introduction to the new era and Rachel Talaway continues to kill it as director. Tennant and Tate are top notch as always and it’s like they never left

In my teen years in Germany in the 70s I watched the original series dubbed in German - but I like New Who best!

Ten is my favorite doctor too so its so fun to see him and Donna together again. I watched all of thirteen's seasons, and it was okay during its high moments with a few stand out episodes. I am excited to get back to the "feel" of doctor who and better story lines/writing because Jodie is a really good actress, and the last few seasons of writing left me unimpressed with the material they gave her/the doctor (they did get slightly better as time went on).
The reason they danced around actually showing Wilf is that Bernard Cribbins died last year... :(
Yes and no. He did die (sadly, of course), but he filmed the specials before then. He will be in one of the other two episodes.
They already finished filming his scenes before he died.
The Doctor is back! Jodie wasn't bad Doctor but she was let down by the writing and direction of the stories. This felt more like the Doctor of the past. I haven't had this much fun with the Doctor for so long. I hope this continues to Ncuti Gatwa's seasons.
Side note: The Meep looks like something straight out of Harry Potter universe

That's exactly what happened to me, stopped watching when Amy and Rory left and watched a few Clara's. I feel like the spirit of Doctor Who has changed too much
I really enjoyed this episode and I especially loved the representation. I hope you will consider watching Good Omens. David Tennant is in it and it also has representation and it’s fantastic! PLEASE WATCH GOOD OMENS! I stopped watching JJ too when they killed Kilgrave off as well. Lol

Interesting, i watched at least 2 seasons with Jodie, but i haven't watched the last one and maybe also never will. Main problem for me was however also not Jodie but the companions. In the end it went down after Claras dead for me. I was a huge fan of Clara, but i also loved of course Rose, Donna, Martha and Amy. But Bill just wasn't on the same level for me anymore, and then the pack of 3-4 with Jodie, they were so uninteresting that i don't even remember there names.
So for me i would have even embraced Donna or Clara as a female doctor, but we need a good Doctor AND a good companion.

I also stopped just a few episodes into Jodies time. Idk what happened but the show just stopped feeling like Doctor Who. The writing was so bad. Idk if it got better but I can't be bothered to see 😂
As someone who literally grew up watching Doctor Who though, this episode gave me hope that it'll get better again. I absolutely loved it
The writing did get a bit better, but never reached the quality of the previous eras in my opinion. The one thing I would recommend to people who were big fans of Doctor Who before Jodie’s era if they’re not sure if it’s worth their time, just watch the Series 12 episode “Fugitive of the Judoon”, especially if you have no clue what happens in Jodie’s era. No spoilers, but it’ll give you a good feel of what was brought back and what kind of things were introduced.
Chibnall happened. There were some great episodes, some terrible ones, and most were just mediocre. It was a roller coaster of inconsistent writing under Chibs.

Unfortunately the actor for Wilfred died last year so they wouldn't have been able to show him in this episode unless they re-used old footage or they filmed with him before he passed :(
I messaged Rachel Talalay last year after Bernard Cribbins death & to my astonishment she replied after I said that they might not have been able to film enough to sadly include him (he was 94) in the story. Rachel replied with "What makes you think that?? 😉"
I pray after that TARDIS reveal he was able to be pushed into that set & say "Now this is cleaner!" because it will both delight & break our hearts 💔😭
These specials were filmed a year before he passed and he's in the behind the scenes footage so he'll show up.
They filmed these specials before he died, he appears in the third special so we will get to see him!
He finished filming for Doctor Who, it was his last role. It also makes sense that they wouldn’t include him as Bernard uses a wheelchair and it would’ve made the whole ‘escape the house’ scene virtually impossible to shoot.

I think he recorded scenes for the third special I mean in the trailer you could see the tip of his hat when donna was in one of the shots.

I agree about the Donna solution. As much as I enjoyed this episode, the whole "we could have just wished the problem away the whole time, and the only reason we didn't is because men can't let things go" point was... anticlimactic. And oddly sexist for an episode that seems to have been trying very hard to be inclusive. But meh, it doesn't bother me more than any other lazy writing 😅
(As for "how it could have been done better"... I dunno, off the top of my head, maybe Donna and Rose could temporarily get possessed by the solar psychedelia as it gets pulled out of the soldiers, and removing it binds it to the meta-crisis energy and extracts that as a fortunate side-effect. Is it techno-babble? Absolutely, but so is like 25% of the lines in this episode 😂. "Vindicating the cyberline" indeed.)
