Maybe we could have a community zipper foot search! I'd love to see you get one and make more corsets (hint, hint). The lace on this one was the perfect touch!
I love the dusty purple colour. Yep I am a purple gal at heart 😹😹the flossing was just perfect. It has given you a really nice shape(can not spell the other word😿)once you have made the padding for them it will look perfect. It’s a shame about the website for the corsets just vanishing like that. It’s not the first time a website has up and vanished and I’m sure it will not be the last. I think that with all the corset patterns I have now collected over the past few years I will manage to make something that will be perfect for me, I have had my fabric for years now just as well I bought more than what is needed as it’s now out of production(bought it 25 years ago found the docket in with it😹😹😹 not sure what was more shocking the age of the fabric or the cost of it compared to todays prices🙀🙀thankfully even back then I had stopped buying manmade fibers.
I want to make a corset, but I figured I should try one that has been made by someone who knows what they are doing first-so I have a better idea what I’m aiming for. Which is why I asked for a Red threaded corset for the End of Year gift giving 😅. Your process is super informative and I’m a huge fan of good accents and contrasts. I think you wear it very well. Thank you for sharing!
I've heard mostly good things about RedThreaded, even though I've never made one myself, so I wish you the best of luck with it!! I do think Minji Lee made one or two of their patterns, and I think she said she had some issues with the seams not matching up very well though... I dunno, you could go see if her videos on their patterns are helpful at all!
So lovely! The dusky purple and antiqued lace were nice choices. Some day I am going to get off my but an make the Redthreaded front lacing stays pattern - would love to do it in a Halloween themed fabric.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it (your user name suggests that you might like the color choice)! And you're welcome, I'm glad you found them useful! I always try to remember to go in and tweak the auto captions, because sometimes they're just garbage (No, UA-cam, I'm not a "historical customer"... not this week, not last, nor last year)!
Oh gorgeous!!! That purple with the old gold lace is stunning. I can't say anything about your zipper foot -- I've been sewing for fifteen years and I'm just now making myself a tailor's ham XD
@@ShannonMakes in 2021 I made a wearable mock up with redthread's long line Regency stays pattern. I wore that set of stays until the bones were poking out of the bottom of the channels and then I had some changes in my body size and now I need to make new stays! But I loved that one!
I was lucky and downloaded all of Aranea's patterns when i first came across her so have access to them when needed but i was so sad to see her go. She was so sassy and such a beautiful creative soul, shes always a miss. I am new to your channel but must say i am loving it your creative energy it is contagious 😊 subbed and working my way through your uploads ❤
I also have many of her patterns, so feel quite lucky in that regard... I just hope she's OK, wherever she is and whatever she's doing. Thank you, and I'm glad you're enjoying the channel!
Your tutorial in my opinion has been the best on corset construction I have seen & I have watched a lot of them. ☺ It was very clear, both visually and in your explanations, and thus cleared up a number of questions About the process I would always have, following one of those many, many tutorials. Thanks so much Shannon. You are amazing, as always!
Thank you! It was not, in fact, intended as a tutorial; I would have needed to go much more in-depth to have satisfied my own personal standards for being a tutorial BUT I'm very glad that you found it useful and picked up some good tips, that's always fantastic, and I love hearing it!
Perfect timing, I just got back into some of my UFOs, including a half-finished version of Aranea’s Dolores corset and I decided I wanted to revisit it (since I have everything but the busk on hand). The original pattern is significantly short on me and needed some widening in the hip, so I did that frankenstein work this weekend and we’ll see how well it worked or if I was totally off 😂
I love how this turned out! I also appreciate how you include your thoughts and process, especially the choices you made and why. It's super helpful! ❤
Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful... it's a constant struggle between balancing people's shorter attention spans and "just wanting to see the pretty thing" and then trying to actually give useful information for anyone who's watching (at least in part) to learn! Happy that you found the balance satisfactory
Your corset looks awesome, love the colour you chose and the lace goes well together. Glad to see you still have Alphonse Mucha poster ☺️ my nan has loads of his pictures (replicas) in her hall.
what a beautiful corset! Love the flossing too! I wear mostly black so I guess a corset would be black too xD maybe with cream colored decoration (I love the contrast between cream and black)
Very nicely done all the way through! I actually do have a couple of corsets in the works at the moment, one of them *attempting* historical accuracy (cream-colored silk-satin with lace and peridot green ribbon and flossing) and another more "everyday" corset using quilting cotton for the outer layer that is still kind of on hold because I can't decide which pattern fabric from my stash of quilting cotton remnants and squares I should use. 😂 It's soooooo tempting to just make a whole bunch of corsets, but buying that many busks is definitely going to add up fast!
You’ve done such a great job with everything, coutil, flossing, boning, busk etc ,and yet you’re greatest problem seems to be the zipper foot ,I can’t believe it 😂 👍👏
Thank you! Honestly, sometimes UA-cam just randomly unsubcribes people, it's not that uncommon, so it's possible that's what happened... either way, welcome aboard!! 🫶
oooh, somebody once did a pair of bicycle bloomers inspired by one of my videos that was silvery grey with mid blue trim, and it was lovely... I suspect your inversion of those colors for a corset would be equally lovely!!
Oh my gosh your hair is sooooo pretty! I’ve been watching your videos for about a year now and I’m still discovering some older ones and yesterday I was wondering what your hair looked like and then today in my suggested this video popped up :) you should do a video on your hair style :)
Thank you! My hair style is: wash it every 7-10 days, and put it up out of my face so that I can completely ignore it in the meantime, so there's unfortunately nothing of interest there 🤣🤣 There are tons of fun videos in the archives, so definitely recommend a deep dive to find some old goodies!
@@ShannonMakes how do you get the cute wisps on the sides? I can't stand hair in my face either so I'm an all the time bunner too. But yours is cute actually. I look like I just got out of bed lol. I have been binging your videos a lot lately :) we just got a puppy and I am scared he will chew up my cord for my sewing machine if I break out anything right now so I have paused my actual crafting and done the mental instead, learning and watching and you have been incredibly helpful!! I have learned so much from you that I honestly feel like I should pay you :) you're amazing! And you're also an amazing depression reliever, your kind eyes and your smile pull me out of my worst gloomy days :) I appreciate all you are!
Thank you, so glad my videos brighten your day, and best of luck with the new puppy... so much fun, but they sure can be a handful! The cute wisps are the results of not having cut my hair for over four years, and letting it just rip out naturally how it wants to? Seriously, my hair care routine is probably appalling to the vast majority of my viewers 🤣🤣
I think you're on to something with that coutil boning channel trick. 🤔 Might have to try it next time I use quilting cotton. I never thought to sandwich the layers as you sew, either, to hide the seam allowances. Will definitely try that on my next corset 😎 thanks!
Yea, definitely give it a try... it worked well for me, although someone in the comments recommended not clipping the SAs and just trimming them quite short instead, to avoid weak spots in the corset. I'm not terribly bothered because I'm not going to be wearing this on a regular basis, but just food for thought!
Very pretty n I like the colors... its more of a utilitarian look n for a first corset is practical... additional ones can be fluffier if desired... that extra can interfere with outer garments laying... I will be interested to see how you determine the shaping of the padded accents... thank you for a great video 😊
Thank you!!! It's a bit divisive... most people love it, but some people were so offended, they felt the need to announce their departure from my channel (which I honestly feel is hilarious, and they probably wouldn't have liked it here in the long run anyways)!
@@ShannonMakes As a proud hamster owner myself, it's definitely on my to hunt list now haha. Also the video is making me want to wear my stays more. They've just been sitting in my closet with no events. 🙈
Those colors are awesome! I just got a bunch (like almost 6 yards) of dusty pink watered silk look cotton canvas and I’m definitely going to be using it for some corsets but I’m trying to figure out what colors to combine it with. Definitely probably going to do one with ivory
I think it turned out Lovely! I have to admit I was totally suggesting using some cardboard since you didn't have a zipper foot, (which is hilarious since you can't hear me and I am sitting here alone) so I was super happy when you said you used a busk to accomplish bridging the gap between the height/. Thank you for another great video!
I was hoping it will be possible to access Aranea's instructions, from what I remember they were so easy to digest. Let's hope her patterns will show up somewhere, I'll gladly pay her for them because I know it's a lot of work to make any pattern, let alone corset one.
I have heard rumour that there are archives on the internet if one digs around, however I personally don't want to search them out or post a link, as that feels like a moral grey zone. Can definitely agree that it's a huge loss to aspiring corset makers around the globe, though
Great work! Thank you for sharing the process. I love the colours! My dream corset would be a muted forest/dark green with off-white/cream lace :) but I don't even have any corset yet and I'm very far behind with my plans of making one, so maybe in the next 10 years? :'D when I finally get around making one, it will probably be a very similar shape as this :)
Hey! This video is soo great. You are an amazing inspiration 🎉 Can i ask what string did you use to lace it? Im currently making one, but im not planning at all, so i dont know what to use haha! (Thanks for the video, i can tell you put in effort❤)
Thank you 🥰♥️ I just used whatever ribbon I had on hand, I think it was just a poly ribbon?! Nothing special, you can probably Google a more suitable option, but this one worked really well for me!
That shirt lost me a few subs, to which I said “good riddance” cuz if you can’t handle that shirt, you’re not gonna like my channel in the long run 😂😂😂
I love this! The colour and lace are lovely. The combination is stunning!! I really can't day enough about it. Also what is your machine? I'm guessing that a few of use have an extra zipper foot around. I always but the random boxes of sewing machine bits and bobs. Sometimes they are confusing messes of different machines parts. Anyway if you have a PO Box or a care of address let us know.
Thank you, that's so generous of you! I don't know if it's a tricky foot to find, it IS a older machine. It's a PFAFF 1212 (or 1222, they're pretty interchangeable)... so it's high shank, but there's more than than, because while the shaft height was fine on the foot I found, the placement of the needle hole front-to-back was incorrect, and my needle would strike the foot 😭😭 So the (half-hearted) search continues!
@@ShannonMakes I’ll check my random boxes and see what I have. Then keep an eye out for it. I’m always running a half hearted search for a thing or twelve
I love love love this! I have been wanting to make a corset for YEARS and you make it look so easy! Does it add any size to your waist? I bought an already-made and it adds a full inch which makes the whole idea seem pointless since i want it to make my waist smaller. (I have the extra squish on my waist to achieve this. Lol)
I haven't measured my waist in it, so I can't definitely say... I'd imagine that it's about the same or a bit larger, because as I mentioned, I have zero squish or room for squishage skeletally-speaking. If you were squishy, I would make an educated guess that you could could get *some* reduction (see Minji Lee, she has a great skeletal structure that leads to squishage), but also remember that the historical silhouette relied just as much on padding out as it did on squishing in!
"I am notoriously hard to give a waistline to" ohhhhh I feel that in my very soul.... I think I have a similar athletic build to you, only mine's got some, ehrm, extra padding as well to further obscure any hip to waist ratio I might ever have had... Do you ever get annoyed ribs from the waist of the corset? I'm guessing your hip bones and rib bones aren't too far apart from each other and you've got a fair bit of muscle in between from the core muscles you must have in order to be able to do all the things you do (I made mine strong to hold my spine together and the bonus bulk of the muscle increase has made me look even more like a brick with boobs). I made a half-corset sports bra last year and it's in the UFO pile for ticking off my ribcage even after I opened up the back seam (I made a zipper front, solid back) at the bottom for an extra inch, I'm going to have to go in and let it out at the sides, or maybe adjust where the bones are so they don't press on my floating ribs. I might split the back and put lacing in but I suspect the result of that is going to be my shoulder straps falling off because my slopey shoulders tend to lose any kind of strap that doesn't come from the centre of my back (yeah expanding bras that fit my front to also fit my kinda muscular ribcage by adding to the back does exactly this by moving the back straps further apart from each other, I wanna be a 36 in the front for cup placement but a 40 in the back for the hammering and swordwork muscles across my shoulders and back). UGH, BODIES. And I think I might try the welt method next time I try to make something structured, so far my two structural garments have been bag-lined and I'm not as happy wtih how the boning channels worked out on the one I boned and the other one's in the "UFO" pile for now while I contemplate how to add boning to it, given that I do not have a thread that matches the fashion fabric. I'm pretty good at hiding that I'm using the wrong colour thread, but not THAT good LOL. I have my suspicions that when I do finally make a full corset, I'm going to be referring back to this video. Since I made my first attempt, I ALWAYS use the waist line as my reference for pinning stuff together, I'll have to figure out how to add other marks since my measurements often lie. Though for this kind of garment, socks just may be the solution to the "But I measured you silly boobs at 40" and made the thing to 40" with zero ease, why can I stick both hands in there with you now??" issue. Mariah Pattie has a good video on making crescent shaped bust improvers to prevent things from... slithering ... down your corset or stays... and I have no hips to speak of so I'll definitely be contemplating my sock collection or making fake hips. Some "BADöNKA" to go with the "üPLIFTA", if you will... Looks great, that colour works way better on you than it would on me, I need the deep jewel tones or I look ill. Fortunately for my wearable corset mockup future, I have some dark purple canvas!
Definitely recommend the welt method, I find it very easy and fairly forgiving, plus you save some time on sewing the boning channels! Definitely feel free to refer back to the video for any useful tips, and I'll definitely be needing my own üPLIFTA in the future too! XD
Can I send you a zipper foot? I have quite a few vintage machines and often they've come with various feet and other doodads.... and I don't need multiple zipper feet! (Although now that I really look closely at your machine, it looks like it takes a very specific style of foot....)
That's a very sweet offer, but I'm afraid it might be pretty specific... the store gave me a high shank foot that was the proper height, but the placement of the needle hole front to back was off because the shaft is slanted, and I wouldn't want to you to the time and effort of sending me a foot only to have it not work 😭🫶
@@ShannonMakes Oh Pfaff - you make such an awesome machine.... but you don't play well with others! LOL I love that you don't limit yourself even though you don't have Every Style Presser Foot on the Planet. I think sewists can get a bit hung up on having the exact specific tool for every single situation, when it's obvious that isn't necessary. Just sew! 🙂
love your personality & interested in your evening job!! I've always enjoyed your videos Why in the world would you wear a sweatshirt that says f*** off? very offensive to some of us. Sorry, but good bye
Because it's cute AF, created and sold by a small business, perfectly in-line with my sense of humour, and as the cherry on top, does a free job of weeding out viewers who clearly have no chill. ALSO, it's wild of you to think that when I get up in the morning, I get dressed with *your* sensibilities in mind rather than my own.
What keeps the breast in a mid-bust Corset? I have bras that I have given up on wearing; because, my breast spills over the top of the cups when I bend over (they really do pour over and out of the bra cups). This is very embarrassing, and very painful. To wear any of these modern support bras, I have to wear a full coverage sorts bra over my support bras. Dressing up is painful and hot. Corsets may be a safer, cooler and more comfortable choice.
With underbust-Corsets a bralette or similar is worn to support the bust. Not really what I want for my self for daily corset wearing which is why I made myself a mid-bust corset. There is no spillig really because the bust is kept inside with the chemise (or undershirt). And mid-bust really is over the nippels, so quite safe. When bendig over the bust is retained by the chemise as well. Hope that helps 😊
What’s your advice for dealing with extreme curves? I’m pretty confident mine will be fine for the once a year I’ll wear it, but I’m always up for learning!
@@ShannonMakes steam and stretch. On a welt seam you can trim a little of the seam away, so it is contained inside the bone channel rather than anchoring it with the second row of stitching. This also allows the seam fabric to move to where it wants to be. As with many things it's easier to show than describe I'm afraid.

This is the one I thought I watched.
I found it in my watch history 🌞💗🦋
Oh, yes, that’s the video that I’m referring to in the other community tab post!
@@ShannonMakes ah, ok.
Thanks.
I got confused by the post, is all, I bet
Your no-sewing-foot-hack is what Joelle of atelier Sylphe taught me - but I never truly mastered it - so you're in good company !
Awww, yay, love being in good company!
Thank you! And yes, purple is one of my fav colors! 💜💜💜
No 1: Your hair looks lovely down! No 2: I just want to sew a simple dress. Haha. You are very talented! The corset looks awesome.
Aww, thank you! And you SHOULD sew a simple dress... it would probably get WAY more use than a corset!!
Corgi floof is always the best floof!!!
Very true!!
The trick with the second busk or anything the same height is SO SMART, why did it never occur to me 😅
The most obvious of solutions often evade me too, I think it's normal. Either that, or you've just never been as desperate as me 🤣
So lovely! The dusky purple and antiqued lace were nice choices. Some day I am going to get off my but an make the Redthreaded front lacing stays pattern - would love to do it in a Halloween themed fabric.
Oh, that'd be so fun!! And if you got a start now, you might get it done in time for Halloween!!
Great video. And also want to say thank you so much for adding captions to your content. As a deaf person I highly appreciate this!!
Why thank you!! 💜 I thought so too! 🫶 (and hey, I only just upgraded to a proper ham & sausage a couple years ago myself!)
Ooh. Love how this turned out! The colors are beautiful.
Thank you!! 💜💜💜
Looks pretty perfect to me! I enjoy every one of your videos, regardless of the subject.
I appreciate that!
I love wearable mock ups!
RIGHT!?!?
@@ShannonMakes in 2021 I made a wearable mock up with redthread's long line Regency stays pattern. I wore that set of stays until the bones were poking out of the bottom of the channels and then I had some changes in my body size and now I need to make new stays! But I loved that one!
A lovely outcome.
Love the purple with that lace. Gretlat match to your busk and gromet hardware!
Thank you, I love the combo too!
The original pattern is significantly short on me and needed some widening in the hip, so I did that frankenstein work this weekend and we’ll see how well it worked or if I was totally off 😂
Sounds like you already got the majority of the hard part behind you!! Best of luck on the assembly!
@@ShannonMakes my least favorite part of sewing is cutting the fabric so we’ll see how long I procrastinate that lol
Love it. That is a great pattern for the flossing. This is one of my favorite shades of purple.
Thank you! It really is a great shade of purple!
Thank you!! And yes, I love that poster, I see it every morning when I wake up (my bed faces that end of the sewing table)!!
10/10 fabric choice with the cotton! That's a gorgeous colour.
Thank you!! 💜🫶
what a beautiful corset! Love the flossing too! I wear mostly black so I guess a corset would be black too xD maybe with cream colored decoration (I love the contrast between cream and black)
Oooh, my very first corset ever was a tuxedo corset in cream and black, and I agree that the color combo was just lovely!!
this is stunning. I wish i knew of a free pattern most suitable for beginner sewists :(
Very nicely done all the way through!
Ahhh, the infinite decisions!! Could always go with a sports corset-esque button closure in front, to save on busk costs!!
I love the dusty lavender, and your skills are formidable , I know because you make difficult look easy xx
Thank you 🥹🥹💜
Awesome work!
Thank you!! 💜 💜
You’ve done such a great job with everything, coutil, flossing, boning, busk etc ,and yet you’re greatest problem seems to be the zipper foot ,I can’t believe it 😂 👍👏
…STILL don’t have one 🤣😭😭🤣
@@ShannonMakes still can’t believe it 🤦🏻♂️🤣
Love to color!
right?! it's it just so fun and unusual for a corset!?
Oh gosh. I thought I'd already subscribed. I have now. That's a cute corset. I like the lace.
Thank you! Honestly, sometimes UA-cam just randomly unsubcribes people, it's not that uncommon, so it's possible that's what happened... either way, welcome aboard!! 🫶
the colour choices are so pretty! well done :) it looks great
Thank you!!! 💜🫶 💜🫶
Love the colours!! I'd choose a kind of mid blue with a silvery grey trim.
oooh, somebody once did a pair of bicycle bloomers inspired by one of my videos that was silvery grey with mid blue trim, and it was lovely...
I love the colour!
Thank you! 💜💜💜
Very pretty n I like the colors... its more of a utilitarian look n for a first corset is practical... additional ones can be fluffier if desired... that extra can interfere with outer garments laying... I will be interested to see how you determine the shaping of the padded accents... thank you for a great video 😊
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Looks soooo good. If I made it, it would be green and silver.
Someone else just replied "green and gold" so I feel like you two would go well together!! 💚💛
Great details and tips. Perhaps one day I'll venture into corset making too.
Thank you!! 💜 you definitely should! 🫶
I love those colors! Incredible work as always.
Thank you!! 💜
It came out so well! ❤❤❤
Thank you!
great job! i love the colors.
Unrelated to the actual video but I love your blue hamster sweater 🥺
Thank you!!! It's a bit divisive... most people love it, but some people were so offended, they felt the need to announce their departure from my channel (which I honestly feel is hilarious, and they probably wouldn't have liked it here in the long run anyways)!
@@ShannonMakes As a proud hamster owner myself, it's definitely on my to hunt list now haha.
Also the video is making me want to wear my stays more. They've just been sitting in my closet with no events. 🙈
Your projects are always perfect!
Aww, you're too sweet 🥹🥹💜
Those colors are awesome! I just got a bunch (like almost 6 yards) of dusty pink watered silk look cotton canvas and I’m definitely going to be using it for some corsets but I’m trying to figure out what colors to combine it with. Definitely probably going to do one with ivory
Dusty pink and ivory sounds delish!! 💗
Yes, love it!! I always love when the creators can hear me yelling at them through the screen, it feels so vindicating when they listen!!
@@ShannonMakes that is so true!
Love seeing your videos! ❤
💜 love seeing your comments!! 💜
What a lovely video 🤗
Thank you!! 💜💜💜
i think I would like a teal or dark green corset.
Ooooh, I do love a good teal! And forest green! They'd both be lovely!!
@@ShannonMakes Oh, I found the archive an hour ago. Let's say that Reddit is a helpful place sometimes 😉
Oooh, sounds almost hobbitsy, but like in a Rosie Cotton sort of way.... very lovely!
Hey! This video is soo great. You are an amazing inspiration 🎉
Can i ask what string did you use to lace it? Im currently making one, but im not planning at all, so i dont know what to use haha!
(Thanks for the video, i can tell you put in effort❤)
Thank you 🥰♥️ I just used whatever ribbon I had on hand, I think it was just a poly ribbon?! Nothing special, you can probably Google a more suitable option, but this one worked really well for me!
Costumer, circus artist, AND you're wearing an "F off" shirt? You're my kind of person!
That shirt lost me a few subs, to which I said “good riddance” cuz if you can’t handle that shirt, you’re not gonna like my channel in the long run 😂😂😂
I’m wondering, what pattern you used for the chemise and drawers? Turned out fantastic, well done 👍🏼
It's an extant garment, actually, that I'll be talking about a bit in a near-future video!
So cool! What is the tool you use to draw the seam allowance?
I think it's just called a seam allowance tool? I don't know, I have two that I found in thrift shops!
emerald green and gold
Oh, that would be very lovely (and instantly gave me Wizard of Oz, Emerald City vibes)!!
Where are your hams & sausages? I went to your ko-fi store, but did not find them!
As of a couple days ago, they’re all sold out 🙃 If you want to know when ive got more, send me a quick email at makingseamsmeet@gmail.com !
Oof, ain’t that the truth! Very thought of you, it’s appreciated!
@@ShannonMakes yes, but i have the padding already. 😂 Your corset is beautiful and you are beautiful with and without it!
Thank you 🥹🥹
Where is the link to the free patterns! I really want to tulip pattern.
if you either watched the full video or read the description, you'd know ;-)
"I am notoriously hard to give a waistline to" ohhhhh I feel that in my very soul....
Just sew! 🙂
Absolutely! And I feel like if I ever had merch, “just sew” should be one of the slogans 🤣🤣
love your personality & interested in your evening job!! I've always enjoyed your videos
Why in the world would you wear a sweatshirt that says f*** off?
very offensive to some of us.

I'd defer to Larissa's comment, as I am not very busty at all, so I don't have any first hand experience in that area!
👏👏👏👍
As an experienced corset maker, please don't clip your seams. It seriously weakens the seams
@@ShannonMakes it's quiet unintuitive, especially as a dressmaker. But when your materials are so expensive you want to ensure the end product lasts.
