- NYC is just so expensive. If you want to “live” a little, it will put you in the poor house because rent, food, and basic living expenses are so high theres not much room for fun excursions like today. That being said, every penny I spent at the Hudson yards shops was totally worth it. You make a good point about "Can’t Afford NYC." I worked in NYC and wife #1 decided she wanted to work there too. She had to "Dress for Success," and every day on way to work she passed by stores on 5th Ave, and just had to stop and buy something. I finally convinced her to move back to NJ. She did ... same pay ... she could wear jeans to work every day ... and her "disposable income" tripled.
BTW ... if your wife likes fine jewelry, and if she knows what she's looking at and not just the label, tell her to try shopping on 47th St.
As a life-long resident of the city, I can totally see the disposable income tripling, simply by moving out of the city!!! BTW, 47th St used to be my go-to, as well, but I stopped making purchases there about maybe 3 years ago when I realized that jewelers in/near Chinatown offer better selections, better quality, better service, better prices-and better buying experience overall. For instance, when you shop on 47th, you often know you are getting ripped off b/c the salespeople are way too fast talking and aggressive, and they make too many verbal/empty promises w/ unrealistic “originally valued at” prices, using the good old used car salesmen technique. I think their tactic still works on out of town folks, but I no longer hear “47th St” mentioned in discussing jewelry among my friends/family!
The population attraction is the problem. Massive populations will always experience higher cost of living. NYC has high immigration rates. Maybe stop the mass immigration?

In NYC, we don’t blame immigrants for everything like the rest of the country seem to these days. We ARE special because things are expensive and we have people from EVERYWHERE. That’s how we like it. That’s why we live here.

But, more importantly, in reference to YOUR comment, I can’t even think of one place in Manhattan that looks remotely like a shopping mall besides three spots: Time-Warner Bldg and the new tourist trap @ Hudson Yards…and maybe A&S/Manhattan Mall…and locals don’t go to ANY of these places.
Your daughter is adorable and so well behaved. Just shows that your both good parents! She didn't even eat any of the sweets you offered! That alone is amazing, how many kids would turn down cake twice!

You should get a vinyl tablecloth from dollar tree so that you can spread it down on the floor when your daughter paints or uses play dough or similar. I cringed when I saw the paint on the hardwood floor, water base or not.

Love your urban tours and especially the bakeries. I think having a rent you can actually afford is the key to a happy life and perhaps a future house or two.
I really like your apartment! Just let me in there, I will de-clutter it in less than 4 hours! All I need are storage baskets, added shelving , fresh paint and some bold wall paper and voilà! I’ll bring my own labeler! Lol!
every time i hear the high cost of renting...or some peoples house notes. i just am so grateful for our house. we bought it like a year and a half ago. low interest offered at the time. 530$ now cause taxes went up a tiny bit. a house on a double lot for 530$.so grateful we finally got a place we can afford in our old age. You are all a sweet lil family. what a fun day!!
I feel your wife's pain with miserable feelings regarding a well priced apartment in NY. We lived in a 3 room apartment for 10 years in order to save enough $ to buy a house. We were a couple when we moved in and were a family of FIVE when we finally moved out. Well worth the wait 😃😃
Cash, I'm almost certain someone has already mentioned this, but just in case they have not. Spread news papers all over the floor the next time Violet wants to paint or do anything messy. And she should do it in her play clothes; not her dress.

I don't know how I found your videos but I definitely enjoy them and I appreciate you and your family the more I watch, New York would be interesting to visit but these apartments and that city feel very closed in. We live on acreage in the pacific north west with horses and mountains so I just can't imagine living like that. Sometimes we go into Seattle and it feels like your videos. You seem like a good man and a great person, blessings to you and your family. Great sense of humor as well 😉

Great video Cash, it made me homesick for the city. High Line Park, one of my favorite haunts. Next time you go with the family, take us through Chelsea Market.......love that place. So much to see and do in the city, never a dull moment.
Nothing better than a day at the HL Park, getting the breeze off the water, looking at the landscaping. Best thing the city ever did, was to add that fabulous park. You can eat desserts like you did, and then walk off the calories at the park. My lips were falling off looking at those cakes you and your wife ordered. And thanks for the tip on the Chinese restaurant. And , little Violet, again always the star of the show.
I’m new to your videos, very entertaining! Watching people and their lives on You Tube, I feel a bit voyeuristic. I’m born and raised in Hawaii, housing and food is expensive in Hawaii, but not nearly like NYC. I own my studio: I bought it as a co-op in 2011, for 20k. Then in 2016, the co-op lease was up and the whole apartment complex was for sale. My apartment complex got the loan and bought it. This allowed us owners to buy into the lease too. My mortgage in 2017, was for $99k. I pay almost $500 per month, then $650 maintenance fees. I rent a parking space for $120. We are finally going to condo status this summer, which will be better for the value of our units. My neighbor is a renter, not an owner, he pays almost $1400 for a studio, it’s just him and his son. The bottom units are one bedroom and rent is much higher. Rent is high in our complex because we are right in the center of Honolulu, close to everything. Anyway, I like looking at apartments in NYC just to see how life is there. Mahalo 🌺🤙

Violet is adorable, and you're a good husband. I was mildly amused when Violet didn't want either of your desserts. I'd have had the same reaction around that age because I only liked fruits by themselves and not "in" things like cakes and pies.
I'm still that as an adult. Fruit needs to be pureed smooth before I will eat it in something. I totally get Violet. :)

It's so interesting to see what apartments go for per month in NYC - I have a three bedroom house and at $350 a week I am paying extra off the mortgage, so I should feel lucky. You on the other hand, get to experience NYC, so there is pros and cons to everything, hey.
