  • In this video, I will be taking a look at PSP emulation on the latest firmware 1.0.4 of the TrimUI Smart Pro.
    I recently picked up this device on sale on AliExpress for $55 USD. As of the posting for this video, the sale is over but keep an eye out on AliExpress as I'm sure it will drop in price again regularly.
    In short, the TrimUI Smart Pro is a great budget device for PSP emulation. If you can find it for $60 USD or less then I think it is great value.
    Be sure to check out my TrimUI Smart Pro Setup Guide for more tips and tricks: retrohandheldguides.com/trimu...
    I had previously done a guide for the RG353 on the Cheats.db. Check it out here:

    I just hope they do a refresh of this device with better specs and address the problems people had with it like the sticks and triggers otherwise it's exactly what I want but all psp at 2x would be amazing.

    I play midnight club 3 in 2x with frame skipping 1 and it works perfectly, only in the menu does it have fps drops

    im really lost between this and the RGB10max 3 which has the RK3566
    in terms of raw power are they the same or is 1 better than the other?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому

      I'm not a hardware guy so I couldn't tell you specs which one is more powerful. In my testing, the trimui seems more powerful based on the systems I have tested so far.
      Having said that, the rk3566 is very well known and supported by lots of different firmware which are getting regular updates.
      It's possible that, in the future, the trimui gets more dev support with cfw and there are some that are potentially on the horizon but that is theoretical right now.
      If you want something that works right now and is well supported, the rk3566 devices are good.
      If you are new to these handhelds, go with an rk3566 device. They are well supported and pretty good at PSP, Dreamcast and N64 though not all of the games in these systems will work.

    For the "mostly playable" games, would turning the resolution from 2x to 1x make a difference?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому +1

      I think the only "mostly playable" at 2x was battlefront and it does improve it a little but there are still times when the frame rate dips so id still call that one "mostly playable" at 1x. The rest of them are already at 1x so there is nowhere further to go down.

    Did you run all these tests with "CPU Performance Mode" ON? If yes, did the battery perform well?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  28 днів тому +1

      I set the function key to performance mode and had it on for these tests. Battery still held up quite well

    Thanks for the tips. Have you tried Tomato OS with this?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому +5

      Yes I've tried tomato os. The thing is that tomato os does not improve performance as it is not a firmware update.. tomato os simply adds more emulated systems and some apps.
      So, if you want to add more emulated systems then you can install tomato os to get them prepackaged. But it's not going to change performance on any of the existing emulated systems for the most part

    • @theshepard22
      @theshepard22 Місяць тому

      That's a great point! The firmware itself is where the upgrade is! Tomato is adapting with the newest firmwares released but I didn't quite realize this till you said it!

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому +1

      There is potential for some performance improvements as I believe that tomato os is also updating some of the emulator cores but the existing firmware is already pretty good with the most updated emulators so any performance improvement would likely be minimal

    Looking to buy my first emulator console, and this was top of my list until I saw all the PSP games I want to play are 'mostly playable'. What, in your opinion, is the next step up to get a good PSP experience? Thanks

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  29 днів тому +1

      Next step up would be a t618 device like the rg405 or rp3+. Both of those play PSP without issue but they are android devices which can be a bit more challenging to set up as you usually need to download and configure each emulator yourself.

    Disculpa la tienes actualizada ? Por que en su última actualización perfecciono PSP y trajo la opción de ver videos y una app para poder jugar juegos del Pc en la consola vía streaming 😮

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому

      Yes this was done on the latest firmware. Moonlight streaming is now available and works ok but PSP is not perfect... It's quite good but there are still games that don't play well. Anything listed as not playable here still isn't going to play on the latest update

    Hey great video, how is it the battery? How long? Playing PSP?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому

      Battery life is really good on this thing. I played some co-op stardew valley with my trimui as host for a good 2.5 hours and only lost 20%. I would estimate psp would last maybe 6-8 hours

  • @EliasPfaiffer

    too bad that there are not many emulators (pc engine cd or neogeo cd is missing)
    ps: Can you make a setup guide for Moonlight Streaming? Despite 100mbit line everything jerks and stutters :-(
    EDIT: you can change your mhz speed in the function button menu ;)

    • @zach49490

      Actually there is a way to have more emulators I have neogeo on mine... If I remember the youtuber video I saw I downloaded his 1.0.4 and also has shit ton extra emulators on it as well as working port master.

      @RetroHandheldGuides  Місяць тому +2

    I've owned one. the only things that irritates me, the joystick sucks. it is not about the sensitivity or anything. it is just small and slippery.
