The Yamaha Manu Katche signature snare as his main snare. This one works best like this, tuned sky high! And when he and Pino go into their signature solo part... Killer!!!
Well, that may be true, but that's more an issue with all the cats that have come out since Chris Dave. Dave has been doing this since the start- deliberately. This has been his thing since the 80's. Problem is, everyone else is trying to copy and they are failing miserably.
hesings_hesobs 100% right. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Questlove but I can’t stand when people praise him for his hip hop drumming but then have no clue who Chris Dave is lol.
Some stuff he's playing here is okay. It's cool and kinda groovy. The main problem about today drummers is that most of them can't really develop the solo. He's playing some uber cool open rim-shot rolls, but his whole solo is completely unsystematic and broken. All these super innovative scales are just used in the wrong place in the wrong time making the whole playing just some weird mixture of banging and bashing. He overused almost every aspect of drumming.
very true. no one beats chris when it comes to jams but on his own he always seems uncomfortable; I think he's probably clearly aware of his insufficiency in that department, maybe he's not interested in the style that comes with soloing

Pino doesn't get enough credit in the hip hop/jazz world! folks still see him as a "rock bassist" exclusively lol
Chris Dave can do whatever he wants, definition of timing
Period!
That’s a wicked angle of this beast of a kit
Chris Dave is something X-tra, I tell you that. His sense of time is beyond understanding!
Gotta agree, his playing on Voodoo alone should get him hella credit.
drumtravelfun Questlove was D's drummer but Chris is a savant on drums!!!
Was referring to Pino.
His snare sound is unbelievable!!
5 snares... love it !
best section ever
sick
bassline to zombie. fela tribute
The man of bass is Pino Paladino??
aww yeah, if i'm right, that's the bassline to "zombie" that pino is riffing on (fela kuti).

What did I just witness?
Greatness.
i'm 100% sure you never heard him live. talk after

Pino didn't mind
like Art Blakey came back.
Signature. My mistake.
Good question,,lol I would say the primary..
get taken on a journey. ch-ch-changes!
OMG!! IS HE PLAYING LEFT HANDED???
Nah, he just has his main hi hats placed where the ride is. Easier to groove and do other things independent of a cross over.
I hope he understands it because I don't.
Scales?
Which one lol
zombie!
naah, leave him be dude :) maybe he just don't understand Chris' music or he is mega-jealous ^^
