I listened to all the drummers you named.they might be good drummers but they are just that.now DAVE is something different from all them.he's a poet,a designer,a painter,a rapper...ON THE DRUMS!!! so yes,he's very very different from those DRUMMERS you quote.and,he's really happening!!!
He's playing another melody over the top of what the guitarist is playing. It's called "Fall" from Miles Davis' Neffertiti album. At the very end he plays a jazz standard called Softly as in a Morning Sunrise. Both melodies sound like they don't "fit", but that's something that Dave does with his ensembles. DJ's do this sometimes to move from one song into the next. In this case, the thing that the guitarist is playing remains constant.
Lots of ppl here dont understand chris dave using offbeats from the guitarist's tune to create a new meter for the sax player to play on. Dont believe me? watch the drumhedz video. It genius.
Wow. I wouldn't have picked up on Fall if you hadn't mentioned it. And of course that's exactly right. I'm not used to this whole thing Chris Dave is bringing on, like a live mashup kind of thing. I love the D'Angelo stuff and the Miles stuff for sure. On paper I love this, but I'm struggling with this now. I know Chris Dave is definitely on to something serious and deep, but it's taking me a long time to actually like it. But I think he's at today's vanguard in drumming.
@bassbiff Here's a lil secret if you want download stuff from youtube. Get realplayer. When you get realplayer, it allows you to download videos off youtube on a web browser. Then you can also convert it to mp3. Don't tell anyone;)
I'm with ya, buddy. People point out that he can groove and is choosing not to, as if that makes it better! It's just tasteless. I love a challenging drummer, but the moment anything starts happening in this group, he ruins it. Very frustrating. It's like when someone else has the TV remote.
im not impressed im trying to get into these dudes but TIME means groove and this dude is immature and not letting the music flow own opinion im just old school lol
its "chris dave and friends". its his jam, his show, his showcase, his gig. he can do whatever he wants, and it sounds amazing.

Tim Stewart is another one of dem dar musicians from Mars....
Actually, it's a combination of D'Angelo's "The Root" and Wayne Shorter's "Fall" from the Miles Davis album, "Nefertiti." Nice.
Timmy Shakes is MURDERIN that guitar tone. It just feels so good ...

The substance of this music just blew right over the hater's heads. Absolutely clueless...
I guess you don't understand chris dave's drumming concept! but that's ok...he's the greatest drummer around!
thanks for the upload!
PS I think the link is missing the 'S' in blogspot - it takes me to a bible site otherwise
It's inspired by "the root" by D'angelo. But as hendrix has been a massive influence for D'angelo, i guess the title of the video is OK ^^
7:44 of pure super pure shit to my brain! How does it feel? Feel sorry for you guys.

can anybody explain logically what sax player's doing?
it sounds quite strange for me..
CATASTROPHIC ! .-.-.-.-.
exactly they should let the guitarist and the drummer jam it sounds better that way

is it me or is that the worst sax player of all time? The band is sick!!!
Le guitariste est insupportable!!!! Il devrait varier plus souvent. en un mot nul!
