I had the incredible fortune to see them perform this live in Jamestown New York when they appeared at the Community College there. I couldn't speak properly afterward due to the spell we all seemed to be under and regret not meeting the band who seemed very friendly. I then drove back upstate through the most intense lightening storm I have ever experienced. A night from a Gjallarhorn song! You guys rock! Please come back!
I'm no expert, but the flute looks to me like a Baroque alto flute. They were wood. The big boxy instrument is indeed a contrabass recorder. This is the first time I've seen one electrified and used in this context. I love it!! These people are among the most creative musicians I've seen on youtube. This song just about puts me in a trance, especially the ending. All the members of Gjallarhorn certainly seem to be in a trance. This music is pure magic.
@MichaelHundige I guess not :( Many of their most prominent UA-cam vids were removed a couple of months ago due to complains from their record company[*] - I hoped that it might mean that they were activating but no indication for that thus far. [*] I think that was a stupid move - I'm pretty sure for a small marginal bands the vids here help in growing the fan base and specifically generate more CD sells, than without this exposure.
@EneriGiilaan You know Eneri, you are absolutely correct ! Here I have been so immersed in playing their first two CDs Ranarop and Sjofin over and over again, that I somehow overlooked really exploring their latter material. So I have taken your recommendation, and contacted Digelius Music for a copy of Rimfaxe. Thank you for the reminder, that there is still a lot more great music out their to explore.... some of it being right under my nose.. :)
It is probably a native flute of some kind, not a specific named flute. There are many many flutes out there and they exist in some way in almost every culture, past and present. At 3:35 (around there), you can see some of the other flutes he has. The best thing I can tell you is that they are native flutes, probably specially made too...The instrument at 4:28 is a sub contrabass recorder. Really cool instrument, you should do some research if you want to learn about it :)
@Innle Check the UA-cam channel of "GjallarhornOFFICIAL" - after a half decade hiatus they have began to take concert requests, and a new DVD is coming out!
@@Louysa1 elves WERE real... but nowadays they've (wisely) left this grey and hopeless world to live with the eternal Valar... and left us mortals here at this sad place :(
@MichaelHundige How wrong one can be! Search for UA-cam channel of "GjallarhornOFFICIAL" - seems to be genuine as far as I can tell. They are activating, taking in concert requests, 20th anniversary DVD is coming out ... What a great year this is - first Värttinä comes back with force and then this! What's next - perhaps tomorrow we will learn that Hedningarna will start touring with Sanna and Anita :D

There is no match to Gjallarhorn and Hedningarna bands to this day. What a blessing of a music they left ✨🙏
Such a unique sound, I miss Gjallarhorn.
So hypnotic! A too short carrer for this band!
Sorry but... I could not be more in love with JW if it were even possible. what a hero

@laelamarie1 Värttinä, Gjallarhorn and Hedningarna all releasing something in 2012... now that Would Be the makings for a banner year !!
Ooo! That sounds interesting....I must research the kaval!
I have never heard this one form Gjallarhorn before. It's beautiful...absolutely amazing! Are they performing again?
The flute is very similar to "kaval" from Macedonia (former Yugoslavian republic).

It is an old baroque traverse flute ✨
This song kinda has a balkan vibration in it. :D
Very good music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ralphyboy25 Perhaps you should reconsider obtaining the Rimfaxe-album after all ;)
It is filled with more or less this kind of "meditative" stuff.

Prime choice tune. The positive notes will coninue to echo. And I have no clue what she is singing.
Gammal Swedish 🌹👌🏿
Can someone post any lyrics for this søng.. Pleaaase...!
Fantastic, who is she, she sings in Swedish and Icelandic
Bo Nilsson Her name is Jenny Wilhelms. Wikipedia has page with information about her, and the Gjallarhorn website also has information about her.
HungryEars - World Music Thank you very much
If Elvish were real, this is what it would sound like
Elvish are real tough... there are songs in Elvish too and Tolkien reciting poems in Elvish :D
but i doubt they would sing about Jesus though... ;)
beautyful song non the less...

The old year the success is
New is coming here instead
God be allowed to abide
Have lived next to this time
Leave God a happy new year
Where every new mind gets
"And in his old sin does not stand
You are gracious, gentle and gentle
The power of Your Holy Spirit gives us
Stretch over us your right hand
Bless both city and country
Give us o God, a daily bread
And do you care for us in all our distress
Enlighten our cheerful authority
Leave us peace coh unity
And all you know is known
My ears are bleeding and there ripping off destiny
