Personally i have always compared the Thai pale skin obsession with Europe just a 100 years ago, where pale skin was also favoured over tanned skinned. Pale skin meant that you was wealthy enough to stay indoors and didn't have to work outdoors in the fields under the sun. Read some medieval litterature and you will find a lot of references to the royal ladies having fair skin, Snowwhite is a fine example. As for number 2, I say that too. It is a way to tell others that the loo will be occupied for the next 10-30 minutes. 555
@@herrmeistermann2426 it's the beauty industry 100%. In mostly white countries women pay to tan, sprays & solariums & make up. Where they're naturally brown they get liver toxic melanin suppressors, whitening agent in every skin product & ads on TV like the "28 days ponds beauty treatment" where they bleach someone in 28 stages to white from brown. Ads which would be illegal in any western country.
The reason for the number 2 talk is because we don’t want people to come looking where we are. Using examples will probably better explain this. Let’s say I’m having a meal with a group of friend, we’re about to finish but I have to go do the number 2. If I go and didn’t say anything, the group would finish the meal and someone would ask where I am. And then everyone would spread out searching. Instead if I says where I’m going in the first place, other people would just wait at the table. As for the reason why I don’t use ambiguous phrases, it’s because other people would ask and I don’t want to speak a sentences, wait for them to ask and answer instead of just telling what they might be curious about.
Hello mate! When you mentioned the eye patch I felt obliged to comment. Quite often the girls will say that a fly went in their eye on the motorcycle but in reality it is because they have been to a beauty salon and had a facial treatment and the cream has gone into their eyes ... I think you understand my meaning .....
When Thai people talk to their friends and relatives, they are quite relaxed and stead forward to the point without manipulating polite words. Many normal Thai think that Everyone goes to toilet, so why should be shy? It's cultural different. Thai people call sabye sabye meaning that take it easy. Don't overthinking. When they feel that you are a friend, they will be sabye sabye with you.
Thank you for the comment. I think this just backs up my original point at the start of the video, but this is an observation of the contrast of different cultures. The Sabai culture of Thailand is very different to that of the west.

Hi Phil. I could tell you wanted to break into the state the UK is in🤫 Yes, your kids are way better off in Thailand than they ever would be back home. It is sinking fast, sadly. Chokdee👍🏻
I would be quite happy to return to live in the UK, but more for sentimental reasons. I think the future is definitely Asia, but I’m not down on the UK whatsoever.
I have almost exclusively bought new vehicles; two cars and multiple motorbikes/motorcycles. I buy new in part for the small difference in price between new and used, but mostly because I am not a good enough mechanic to spot someone else's problems. I know from observation that preventative maintenance is not seen as a needed expense (if it isn't broken, why spend money on it?) I don't want to buy a used vehicle that has been questionably maintained. With vehicles, I tend to keep them for a long time. I want to be reasonably sure they will last for that long time.
I heard about some practical reasons about avoiding second hand cars. Especially when they get a bit older, they might have gotten some repairs...and you know, here in thailand you have those "speicalist garages" everywhere, they can fix EVERYTHING, but it might not be the most reliable fix, it's cheap, and it does fix the problem for the moment....so, keeping this in mind, i'd also think twice where and if i buy a second hand car with a few years on.
Completely agree with your plan for the kids. Let them thrive in a positive environment while growing up. They can decide for themselves where they want to live when they get older. You are perhaps being too kind when you say that in the west your kids would be just like any other kid. The sad reality, at least in the US, is that someone who looks even remotely Asian (or "different") may experience prejudice. No need to introduce additional trauma into a kids' life.
I appreciate your comment, although there are people that would say that they could get prejudice here over their mother and father met for example. Thank you very much for your comment.
100% on going to the Toilet. I've noticed this. My partner uses the word " Put Put" I've always said to her "Too much information" I'm so glad you mentioned this. I've always thought it was Bazzar.
Western women won't even take a dump in their bf bathroom, let alone notify about it. I think it's a weird taboo in western culture women not being able to talk about natural bodily functions.
The spiritual and supernatural side of Thailand is very real and dominant. When you are with a Thai person just look at their physical reaction when a monk or, heaven forbid, and nun walks past. There are also high levels of superstition and belief in fortune tellers. Don't even try to discuss or debate these types of topics with a Thai, just accept them.
I agree with this for most Thais, but there are always some exceptions that don’t really believe in Fortune tellers. Thanks for a great observational comment. I appreciate that.
That reminds me of the F1 driver Mika Hakinen when he was being interviewed on live Tv and suddenly declared" I need a shit" Too much information declared the interviewer.
Hello Mr Egg 🥚good video and agree with your observations Just wondering, do your kids have a brummie accent (or black country, I'm from London and can't tell the difference!) Ive met a few Thai ladies who have had German partners and have a funny sounding German accent 😊
My mrs is from Indonesia and she says exactly the same thing when she wants a number 2 - all her mates say the same thing too😂😂😂 They just come out with it - I think this could be a south east asian thing Mr Egg😂😂
Would the higher prices of used cars have something to do with saving face ? Like you cant look at a 10 year old Hi Lux with suspiciously low mileage priced at 700,000 baht and say to the dealer " you want 700 K for this ? , youre insane ! "
Your video made me laugh a lot. Must be that famous Brummie sense of humour like Jasper Carrot! But I must object a bit that Asian kids can't do well in the UK. Asian's kids have the highest exam pass rate in the UK and generally end up in good jobs! My son is half Fillipino, born in Manila. He passed all his exams and is doing well at college. My ex wife was Fillipino with brown skin, but my son has white skin. So the I won the genes battle! Anyway, got sidetracked in last October, in Pattaya! Will definitely be at Le pub, end of January.
Thank you very much for your comment. I think education is much better in the West. But life is so dull. And the economic situation is changing away from Europe.
Good luck with the fireworks festivities Phil !! Hopefully you will get some customers sheltering from the traffic. Yeah my kids are half and halfs. Their mom is Vietnamese. I do hope they start visiting Vietnam and Thailand to check it out for themselves. I tell all young people to get a passport and fill the pages up with visa stamps. Such a big interesting world out there. You mentioned the ladies being in your face candid... I'm constantly surprised at how open Thai ladies are compared to Vietnamese. Particularly ones you don't know well. In Vietnam once they know you they talk about everythign but it takes quite a while to get to that point.
The face mask and headache cooling pad thing - that’s an Asia thing, I believe. They do that here in South Korea. The only meds needed to be brought over - that my Thai family always asks for, is migraine meds. They can;t get good, strong migraine meds in Thailand.
Nah, i actually do the same. need to go take a poop. Also going to the airports and then....oh yes toilet paper my old friend, so strange wiping your arse.
Face masks are a complete stain on Thai culture. Much of Thailand's success has been based on being the Land of Smiles. The face masks are a total vibe killer and create an emotional barrier between people. They were always meant to be a temporary measure, but many Thais are like big children who cannot move on from sucking their thumb and seem adamant about wearing one for eternity. Also, I don't buy your argument that they only wear them when they are sick, since the people who do wear them have them on constantly, some even when driving alone in their car. It is completely mental and does unfortunately reinforce the view that Thailand's education system is totally broken. Harsh but true.
Thai logic in action on Saturday night my lady friend watched each firework display without her glasses buf then put them on after each display had finished to my amusement.5555
Sorry Im a bit off today “I have my period “ I don’t know how many Thai Women have said that It was reported years ago in the Nation newspaper the Thai badminton champion had an off day. She had her period
Bai Khee or Bai Oot or Bai Chii can be used, but its it not proper. This would be similar if sitting with the boys and one of them says, "I need to go piss". Simply saying "Bai Hongnaam" (Go to the water room) is more proper. Even in the west we would say, "Excuse me, I need to go to go use the restroom" Nothing overly odd here.

no no no... 2nd hand cars are of course crap because they are not maintained well.... ohhh you say.. It's us. Westerners bringing in what we believe is true. And that dealerships have the best. When it's the exact opposite over here. I've had experience with all the dealers just about. I can't mention names, but all the big names in. yes, indeed, all of them rubbish. Can't rebuild an engine. Wreck it. Had to send all the. car all the way from Phuket to Bangkok because they wrecked the engine. Can't fault find anything keep changing parts until good luck comes along, but oh yes, you still have to pay for all the bits you don't need. Forgot to put the spark plug back in. Five mechanics, including the head mechanic and the owner of the shop. Oh, your battery's no good. Oh, your charging systems no good. 0 this, all that. Well, it was simply, he forgot to put the plugs back in. The list goes on and on and on and on. The fact of it is, yes, us silly Westerners like to see the dealership servicing official papers but it means you're out of luck because it's not been serviced by the local skill guide that does excellent work if you find the right shop and guy. So the best bet is to get your silly receipt, get minimal work done. cheque. it all. and then get your real work done at the local shop. properly. This is why thais like new because they know what's goes on. You don't. You're an ignorant Westerner.

Rocking facemasks, but never covering their mouths in public or on buses & trains when they sneeze or cough. Zero equivalent of "Bless you!" or "gesundheit". Also "I go toilet"
Everything is about food and the stomach in Thailand lol. Of course they talk about this a lot. They also care about each others health. When most toilets are squat toilets with no paper to use then doing a shit can require planning especially if your stomach is upset.
I will have to listen to the girls in the bars for the word I'm going for a shit or I'm going for a sloppy shit 😂😂😂😂 I'll save this vlog to my saved vlogs so im not trying to find it when i go back to Pattaya in the end of April but this time staying for 4 weeks.
Wearing mask is equally about being considerate to others to not spread their germs and reducing germs & pollution air intake - Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia greatly the same.
I must admit I’m not adverse to wearing a mask if I’m not feeling too good. It is a very good way of indicating that you’re not well for people to stay away. Only problem is in the west. I suppose you get all the people shouting at you for wearing a mask
@@LePubPattaya I agree with you, people in the West feel differently - in fact one of my best friends seems to go nuts seeing people wear masks even though he is not directly impacted especially when he sees some driving a car with a mask on. I have tried to tell him some people find it easier to leave the mask on when traveling from one location to another (i.e. supermarket, then post office, then shopping mall). Anyway, it is his own hang-up - if he wants to get stressed and a heart attack because he cannot stand what other people in their own space. I worked in a Japanese company in the West - was very common to see Japanese colleagues wearing a mask during the cold & flu season.
That is not how people wear them in Thailand, they wear them constantly regardless of how they feel and in all settings. Utterly absurd and borderline dystopian at times, even more ridiculous when you consider it calls itself the Land of Smiles. Pattaya is more relaxed, but Bangkok is like zombie land, it is disgusting there.

That reminds me of the F1 driver Mika Hakinen when he was being interviewed on live Tv and suddenly declared" I need a shit"
Too much information declared the interviewer.

Hello Mr Egg 🥚good video and agree with your observations
Just wondering, do your kids have a brummie accent (or black country, I'm from London and can't tell the difference!)
Ive met a few Thai ladies who have had German partners and have a funny sounding German accent 😊
No. They don’t speak English very often , but when they do they speak with a Thai accent.

Would the higher prices of used cars have something to do with saving face ? Like you cant look at a 10 year old Hi Lux with suspiciously low mileage priced at 700,000 baht and say to the dealer " you want 700 K for this ? , youre insane ! "
Could be. Never thought of that.
Thanks for that. I have never been to Vietnam so that’s an interesting observation. Thank you.
The face mask and headache cooling pad thing - that’s an Asia thing, I believe. They do that here in South Korea.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but don’t include me in these comments. Cheers.

Yes. It’s something we don’t talk about in the West.
Bai Khee or Bai Oot or Bai Chii can be used, but its it not proper. This would be similar if sitting with the boys and one of them says, "I need to go piss".
Simply saying "Bai Hongnaam" (Go to the water room) is more proper. Even in the west we would say, "Excuse me, I need to go to go use the restroom"
Nothing overly odd here.

no no no... 2nd hand cars are of course crap because they are not maintained well.... ohhh you say.. I have the dealer servicing receipts ... that's worse! the service at dealerships here is appalling...and no where as good as the experienced local dude ... this know this... They are smart..

@@jacksonj3082 oh, I know a lot of folks like that
That is not how people wear them in Thailand, they wear them constantly regardless of how they feel and in all settings.
