I have a 2006 chevy Impala and it is doing funky things. I recently had my oil leak fixed and IT'S LEAKING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! After 1 month of going good. Then, while idling it idles rough and sometimes cuts out while driving. Not cutting out as in the engine shuts down. Just cuts out very lightly where it causes a revving in and out feeling. Also does this while on cruise control. Going to parts store tomorrow to have codes read.
I do a high mileage oil change every 3 months, meaning before I'm suppose to.
I also do a transmission flush once each year.
I recently changed the cabin air filter, engine, spark plugs and wires myself a couple weeks ago.
I'm a female and trying to save money. 🤷♀️😂😬
A fast way for checking ignition coils is to pull them (one at a time) while the engine is running and see if the engine changes sound or starts to misfire (don't do this for long though) but it's a quick way to see if a coil is working (be careful because a good coil will continue to send a spark so keep it away from anything flammable and really you only need ot pull them up slightly -- enough so they can't fire the spark plug or transfer the spark to the plug). If you suspect one is bad, you can sometimes swap them and see if the misfire follows the coil or changes cylinders when coils are moved around.
So what if you pull them out a little and, it still runs as if you hadn't done it ? How do you diagnose that issue ? Inquiring for myself I have this issue right now ?
If nothing changes when pulled then that cylinder isn’t firing. Could be bad spark plug or coil. I’d start with a spark plug as it’s much cheaper to replace.
I got a 2008 Nissan Altima and This Was The Exact Problem that was Wrong with my Car My Engine Light was Flashing On and Off , & I did think it was something major but I see it’s nothing but the SPARK PLUGS , Thanks For The VIDEO
Try this cheap fix first. Pop out the mass air flow sensor and spray it down with MAF cleaner. Let it dry. Pop it back in. $10 or $12 at any parts store. You’re welcome.
I tried this. I think My MAF might be bad. Cleaned it once already
I'm having a problem now where I warm my truck up in the morning the truck and go to leave after its been idling, it's idling rough and the check engine light is flashing. Once I turn it off and back on, and drive, it's ok. Until I idle it again. Any ideas?
@@TrustGodFearNothing if the check engine light is flashing you should take it to a mechanic immediately as it usually means you have a serious problem
@@TrustGodFearNothing my Dodge Dakota had revving issues, stalling, rough idle, and more. Try cleaning the Mass Airflow sensor or MAF. Plenty of videos showing how to clean it. If that doesn't work go buy a new TPS or Throttle position sensor. Get one with a lifetime warranty such as Standard. Also, undo the plastic hose from the air filter box to the Throttle body. Where the big hose connects to the throttle body look into the opening and see how dirty it looks. If its pretty filthy, look up videos on how to clean your vehicle's throttle body. Even if it means removing it which may make it easier to clean it. After its clean and reinstalled, air filter box hose is hooked back up to the throttle body, see how the vehicle runs. If not much better, you may need to replace the MAF, MAP and/or IAC sensors. But first, get an empty spray bottle and mix water and dish soap. With the vehicle running spray around where rubber hoses connect to the engine and whatnot. If any bubbles, you have a leak. Which hoses should be your first inspection but you're getting somewhere without paying ridiculous amounts from certain "mechanics". There are way more things to look for. Use the internet to educate yourself. If you're at your wits end then find a trustworthy mechanic. Word of mouth is the best, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE SOMEONE'S FRIEND OR RELATIVE LOL.
@@Roller76 that blinking means multiple misfires most likely. My car does it but I’m just struggling to find out why
Nice! Changed the plugs, coils, disconnected the battery, so far so good. Now its chugging funny but its one less problem.
Boo!
Have the same problem we’re u ever able to fiz it?
A system programmer I once new would say... "Don't assume it's complicated... the problem is probably simple or stupid... ". I went through this problem with my 20 year old Corolla.... I replaced the plugs with good platinum ones and that's it. About $30 for them and wipe the 'boots' clean of any oil and blow the spark plug recesses empty BEFORE removing the plugs (dust, dirt get into the recesses at the 4 plugs). If you are handy, the throttle body and IAC valve can be cleaned after removal. A chore... ? Yes, but a shop will want a few hundred to do it...
Your correct ! Spark plugs . That's what was wrong with my 5.3
THANKS SO MUCH, I CHANGED ALL PLUGS AND EVEN ONE COIL AND STILL IDLES ROUGH. I ORDERED A SET OF COILS FROM AMAZON AND I PRAY THIS IS IT AS IT'S NEVER RUINS AS WELL AS IT DID ON DAY ONE!!
Wat happened
Did the new coils fix the problem?
We want to know😢
U are awesome bro u saved my car and my money....god bless u.
My 2001 Lexus was running great one minute then felt like I lost half the engine. Already knew I was dropping cylinders. Went to a place, got the codes read and it's # 3 and #4 are misfiring. I'm replacing all 6 coils and plugs. I've owned this for a year but I know the guy before did little to know maintenance. When I bought it I changed the oil right away. It was water thin and coal black and smelled horrible. Cabin filter had never been replaced. Just things like this. I expect to see rusted, nasty old spark plugs. Just hope they aren't seized in.
Great video, just want to point out that depending on what type of vehicle you have, you may want to check the manual before disconnecting your battery to clear the codes. with some newer vehicles it can cause problems.
I had an intermittent CEL, it would come up when idling and start flashing, then would be solid after driving for a few seconds, just did the spark plugs but i checked my spark plug wires, one was sort of loose so it would vibrate off a little, so i just wiggled it a bit and pushed it down harder and its been fine for a bit
My 2014 gmc sierra 5.3 is throwing po300 code. Now also catalytic converter bank one and two. It runs good until engine is warm then the misfire starts. Any advice is greatly appreciated
My engine lights been on about a month now, it flashes sometime but still has power going up hills....it shakes a bit but doesn't affect the driving. Could it just need a service as it has gone over by 1,500klms
Thank youuuuuu! This single Mom of a super kid in a school farther away (magnet school) that he loves, thanks you!!!!

IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) can cause rough idle, happened to me, easy to fix
What do you recommend for somebody with OBD1 which doesn't work anymore?
Just making sure you are using an obdI capable code reader, every parts store around me only have the OBD2.
I fixed mine by finding the power source inside the obdI casing with an ohm meter and re running power to it, not the perfect fix but it worked. If it's got power then I'd check the ground and see if anything else has a Open loop fault on the meter.
Hopefully this will help
Could the engine light cause idling? If so, would a change of spark plugs suffice?
I know this is a 1 year post but everyone else who reads this... It probably would be a good idea to check spark plug gaps, boots and check the wires for any cracking which could all cause a bad running engine
I went running around to 3 different autozone for my parts but more cheaper than taking it to the shop
I just had a tune up so it shouldn't be a spark plug, but I still think it's a misfire. And btw, your Mr. Fire. Js. ☺
The budget mechanic in Hawaii? That sounds like an oxymoron if I've ever heard one. But you know your stuff props brother you got a sub.
Mahalo!
I tried the replacing the gas cap , dash showed Engine check light, tracker off, VSC. I tried Sea foam . I will use the code reader when I find it. My friend said he believes it is the spark plugs.
Found spark plug wires eaten by mice. I understand they like soy based wires.
I took into a shop they charged me dignostic and said I needed a complete tune some kind of chamber and throttle body clean. All I could afford was the diagnoses fee and to get my van back and a pack of spark plug wires.
Thank your for helping with Diagnosis. Next week I will afford to change oil.
I have that going on too. Thanks for the help!
Going to try and clean my iac. See if it helps
I have had a random misfire for a couple of years now. Multiple mechanics have tried finding the culprit, with no luck. Done multiple fuel and intake cleanings, replaced intake gaskets, new spark plugs, nothing has worked long-term. Sick of spending money at shops and having my car tied up for days so I've just let it run as is. So frustrating.
Sell your car and get something different at this point.
Probably the catalytic converter
have you tried to see if your coil pack are plugged up in the right order

1:55and what to do if I have oil on spark plugs? Pls help
That means you probably have leaking spark plug tube seals which is allowing oil to foul the spark plugs. You need to replace the valve cover gasket(s) which usually comes with tube seals
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii and is that possible thing to be problem in my car bcs it works rough and seems like it work on 3 or naybe 2 cilinders only. Motor 1.8 benZ kejetronic. my saturn vue 2005 check engine light is blinking right as this moment my mechanic told me to just check the oil first and go from there my oil was empty like none what do ever
hi, there i just replace spark plug and coils on my nissan pathfinder and i have p030 how is that possible friend thank you for your videos
Misfiring? If it happened immediately after the job I would double check all the connections. If it happened a short time later, it could be the coil failing, sometimes new plugs push an already failing coil over the edge...
U a life saver bro 💯‼️🙏🏾🙏🏾
I changed spark plugs,6; ignition coil, 6; also the oxigen sensor, the EVAP purge valve...and still I have a flashing engine light.!! The scanner continues reading the same old codes... 0300, 01,02,03,04,05,06..and on.... please advise.

Could the spark plugs do this. 1:35 thxs👍
I have rav4 model 2009.
Error in cylinder 3 when I reach high speed or climb high level.
Changing sparks and coils plus swapping injectors but still same code. Checking cylinder 3 compressio it is ok.what do you purpose please.
I changed my ignition coils and spark plugs on my 2010 Jeep Compass but my check engine light still says cylinder 4 misfire I don’t know what else to check for. Help please
If you’ve cleared the engine light and it’s still coming back it would be time to check injector on that cylinder and make sure it’s working (or try swapping with another cylinder and see if code changes). Also possible your new coil isn’t getting power (ignition problem) Also you might need to get a compression test done and make sure you don’t have valve/ring problems
If you're still having issues, it's worth checking the spark plug wires, and the distributor cap and rotor, if your vehicle is equipped with them.
Thank you sir! This video was so helpful for me! 🙏🏼 god bless you!
I have a Kia Sedona 2015 and its showing P0302 P0304 P0306, Spark plugs have been replaced along with coils . Codes are still showing same thing. Mechanic says Fuel Injectors need to be replaced. How hard is it to replace injectors?
Thanks for this man! Simple and easy. Subscribed!!!
I have a toyota camry 2018 se 2.5l
I have misfire cyl 2. Code and also random misfire I believe p3000
I have new fuel pump and filter. New Injectors.. new spark plugs. swapped coils to check if it changes to different cylinder code.
Checked leakage for valves. Good.
Intake sensor good. MAF sensor is good.
Haven't checked compression. But when I disconnect cylinder 2 while misfiring it doesn't change meaning seems that exactly still the area where the problem resides. All others (1,3,4) when disconnected cause it to misfire even more..
I do also get engine power reduced sign on dash.
May my 02 sensor for any faulty reason possibly be causing my ECU to think it's running rich or lean and be causing the random misfire and the specific cylinder 2 misfire?? Without popping up a 02 sensor code on OBD 2 scanner???
Very good teacher
Okay so what do we do if we are still having rough idle and we’ve changed all the spark plugs and 3 of the ignition coils. (4,5,6 to be precise I believe because the code reader noted these). Check engine light is still on and it’s still not driving or sounding right. Does this mean my engine computer is messed up and is causing the misfiring?
I did change spark plugs, coils but still getting misfire on cylinder 4 & 2. I think I need to change the injectors. The compression on each cylinder more than 120 PSI.!?
Ok question, hoping I get a respond 2007 king ranch f150 had a cylinder 5 misfire and a catalytic converter code, check engine, I repaired the cylinder 5 misfire, and the check engine goes off.. now the truck runs rougher in idle.. please give me something g
Could it also be a ecm problem? I recently purchased an 07 saturn outlook and I'm experiencing these problems as well now after a few days of having it. The code reader said the mass sensor needed to be changed, I've had it changed and it is still running rough, my temp hand and gas hand aren't working, it doesn't show what gear I'm in and it cuts off. Even the radio went out on me.
Yes it sounds like you have some electrical problems! Could be computer or even your instrument cluster. You need someone with a good scan tool to poke around
Test alternator, check grounds
My engine light 💡 is blinking and I saw one of the exhaust manifold are missing a bolt and it just slid off I have to get back home what do I do

Excellent video - Clear and straight forward. It feels like I've spent my whole life on the internet looking for advice about this and now I've now find yours. Thank you!
I have a question please that is directly related to this video - After not using my car for a month and then taking out the battery to recharge it, I have a misfire in cylinder 2 (P0302). The symptons are exactly as you have described, loss of power moving off or going up hill at times. A slow, gradual increase on the accelarator helps otherwise it starts chugging and can even hear a brief whacking noise if I floor it especially in a higher gear. It was (or seemed) absolutely fine before I left it for a month. Should I still replace the plugs? I thought it might be some kind of moisture getting in after leaving it for so long but it's still the same after a long drive. I'm worried that I might be causing more damage. Thanks again.
A few things could happen from a car sitting including bad gas clogging injectors, oil leak pooling and fouling plug/coil, animals Messing up wiring, or maybe it’s just coincidence. Best thing is to pull the plug and inspect it, and move on from there.
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii I was drivine and my car and i used the big lights to do a signal to the guybin front, suddenly car reduced speed, opened ABS light and engine flashed. Hi! Thank you so much for taking time to make all the videos for us. Please help me. Here is my issue.
I just bought a 2003 GMC Sonoma SLS 6 cylinder Truck . The truck shakes/vibrates really bad once started. You can literally see the engine moving and shaking. It shakes throughout the drive and also appears to shake even more when at stopped light. Just yesterday afternoon, i was at a red light waiting to make a right turn onto the freeway. Once light turned green as i was pressing the gas and turning my steering reel it became hard to where i couldn’t turn it normally and literally suddenly just died on me. Thank goodness there was no other car making a right turn on the far left lane because when my truck steering reel became hard to turn the car went toward the left side. I tried few times to start car and it started and i went to the left turn trying to turn into the 7’eleven parking lot, right when i went onto the parking it died again. This time it took more times until car started again and this time when it felt as if the car is starting i gas it to help turn on.
Then i drove just across to Oreilly and the worker scanned car and a code on his machine detected Cylinder 2 misfire.
Purchased NEW:
Spark plug wire set
6 spark plugs
Replaced it on car. Still not resolved. Upon checking the MAF sensor was no good, the distributor has a line cracked on the number 2 .
Went back to Oreilly: Purchased NEW
* MAF Sensor
*Distributor Cap & Rotor
Replaced on car with those too.
Again NOT Fix still showing code Cylinder 2 misfire.
Issue present:
1.Shaking/vibration on car really bad and loud.
2. Check engine light comes on and off (flashing)
I do not want to guess on what it is. Can someone please guide me on what to do next that can fix this.
**At this moment writing this comment, i am in the car parked at Oreilly debating what to get.

what do you think? remember only when its wet the more moister or rain the worse
Check out ur PVC valve. Pull the valve out of the valve cover and shake it. If it rattles the valve is good. If it don't rattle replace it. If its good check all the vaccum lines to the PVC valve for blockage/disconnected/crimped hoses as well.
Sounds like just a good car wash will fix these problems. And don't forget to check the blinker fluid too.

I have a 2001 chevy 5.3 186,000 miles, rough idle almost all of the time, check engine light on flashes sometimes, here is what i have had done to it so far, New MAF, both front o2 sensors, plugs, wires, MAP sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, all new injectors, new Manifold gasket, fuel pump and filter, i havent replaced the coils as of yet cause it's been in 3 different shops and they all tell me the coils are all good (starting to wonder if they really are) its been smoke tested no leaks, it had compression test done all good, they did a fuel test where they drained the fuel to see it was contaminated or not and it was all good. oh also replaced the cam sensor when i did the manifold gaskets since i was in there and the knock sensors were good, i checked all the grounds all seemed to be good. all the parts i put into this are OEM parts never went with the cheap knock off parts, i have over 5k parts and labor into this thing and its running worse than when i 1st got it, started off p0171/p0174 codes them are gone now its p0300 code and im at my wits end with this damn thing lol.........Any ideas? inbetween some of these fixes it ran better, the last thing i did was the manifold gasket and it ran pretty good then just one day was crap, cant even drive it 2 miles down the road without thinking she's done for
That will destroy ur catilitic converter

@@kenkeezer4875 a flashing check engine soon light is telling u to pull over as soon as possible and cut the car off. The onboard diagnostics(PCM) has detected raw fuel coming out of the exhaust and not being properly ignited in the combustion process. A rich condition(not the proper air/fuel ratio that is needed to achieve the maximum performance and driveabilty it calls for(14.7) 14.6 parts air and 1 part fuel in every cylinder exactly to achieve maximum performance and perfect driveability to get the perfect gas mileage possible. The oxygen sensor detects only oxygen in the combustion process. Either not enough oxygen(lean condition) exactly in each cylindernough oxygen is)discharged more cylinders is misfiring 's misfiring
@@kenkeezer4875 a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) is set by the onboard diagnostics computer(PCM) to let u and the task master know that the misfire is so severe it's flashing on and off. Meaning raw gasaline is coming out of 1 or more of ur cylinders during the combustion process. Not being properly discharged out of the problemed cylinder/cylinders. Raw unburned fuel released into ur catilitic converter will kill it. Plus it releases carbon monoxide gases(poison) into our atmosphere through the exhaust pipe and muffler. The oxygen sensor detects only the amount of oxygen that is in the combustion discharge process.it either detects to much oxygen(lean condition) or a rich condition(not enough oxygen) either way the PCM will either add more fuel to the cylinder (lean) or subtract fuel (rich) to achieve the perfect 14.7 parts air 1 parts fuel charge out to where it needs to be for that perfect driveabilty and the high performance ur car needs to get the best gas mileage possible. That means ur happy and ur cats happy. Fuel trim numbers are whats important here. to get all ur cylinders back on track and hitting that 14.7 parts air and the 1 parts fuel is what the task master is trying to figure out so it can errase that (dtc)diagnostic trouble code from the PCM and everybody is happy again. You know man the thing that u need to do right now before you start sinking more money into ur ride like that to no avail. I would take ur throttle body off and clean it real good with carb cleaner rags and tooth brushes. Sounds like to me all ur really needing is that throttle plate cleaned out good because its eirher sticking open or sticking shut causing it to run rough or not want to run at all. Sticking open or shut throttle plates makes a car run like fkn shit dude. Clean it real good put it back together and ill bet it runs like a brand fkn new one again brother. Let me know how it does man.
@@eddieclark4477 Thanks for all the info Bro, i will get that cleaned out and will let ya know how it turns out, might be a week or so as im out of town in a couple days.
Hi there my name is Gilbert I. I had came across your video & hoped possibly you could help me out? I have a 2003 Nissan Frontier so getting to coils and fuel that came up with a p0304 code for a cylinder 4 misfire I had someone change my spark plugs when trying to find the issue & he is did inform me of oil on spark plugs but that he would need to do something but he ended up moving states & since I seen this videos I was the wondering do I need to replace both the valve cover gasket & the intake manifold gasket’s & also if I need to go that far do I replace the ignition coil for cylinder 4 only or all 6 & if I’m that far clean or replace fuel filter’s ? Please let me any advice you might have to let me know what I should do i would really appreciate it !
