It may be basic, but I believe the simplicity is what added to the horror of this game. May not be the best game ever made, but it holds strong in the testimony on how much a simple soundtrack can have a lasting effect on humans. From a musical perspective, the pitch and tone of the music is not offensive to the ear by any means and is fitting with the atmosphere of the 1980s' horror film series of the same name. It was the very first game to bring controversy of graphic violence as well, with the debut of Gory images of victims accompanied by a digital scream being enough to frighten players, myself at youth included. Sometimes, simplicity is the critical key to making a permanently-lasting classic.
Those interruptions in the music followed by the most horrible screams, that game gave the me creeps! Really, the disturbing atmosphere was quite well achieved!
Especially the sudden loud scream with that huge picture with a head with a knife in it. A 7 year old kid sitting in his dark room gaming during the night while his mother was sleeping could get a *little bit* scared.
I loved this game. I was a kid so the machete to the head and the skulls cut scene was really cool. Especially since it popped up with the scream. I also liked the fear meter. And of course the music teddy bears picnic was always stuck in my head. Also in retrospect Jason was pretty easy to beat.

Thanks for this! I played this game as a kid so much, even before I knew anything about where the music originally came from. I realized the final song is the same melody as Monty Python's "Dennis Moore" skit, which itself is a parody of the theme from the 1950's TV show "Adventures of Robin Hood". Does anyone know if that melody originated somewhere else - an English folk tune, perhaps?
2017 FRT13 was scary , but I think 1985 FRT13 is scarier bc of the music I constantly hear the music in my head when I was younger and giving me nightmares for weeks 😂 I’m older now and use it to throw Halloween parties and play scary games 😈💯
Wow, what is with this soundtrack? Teddy Bear's Picnic, the Dracula theme, a wedding song, and Old MacDonald Had A Farm (AVGN really was effing serious about that song being in this game)? What were the people making this game thinking? They couldn't secure the rights to use the movie soundtrack, so they just chose random songs that were or they thought were public domain?

@NotQuarex
My first thoughts were, 'Is this what I think I'm hearing? Teddy's Bears Picnic?' And much to my dismay, it was.
Teddy Bear=Jason
Picnic=The Player, a.k.a. YOU
Not to mention Old MacDonald Had a Farm. What the fuck were they thinking lmfao.
The Teddy Bears' Picnic rendition makes me think of a hypothetical Commodore 64 version of Banjo-Kazooie.
I wonder if it’s a reference to Teddy Bear from The Final Chapter.
Those interruptions in the music followed by the most horrible screams, that game gave the me creeps! Really, the disturbing atmosphere was quite well achieved!
For those wondering, the 2nd tune is the bach cantata BWV 140 Wachet Auf, more precisely the zion hört choral, at the middle of it
