My oldest son has been in a wheelchair since he was two yrs old. Thank you for creating this channel, and being an inspiration to him. We have chickens, ducks, and rabbits….Quail will be our next addition. I can’t wait. We can’t have roosters here in town, but if we could, I’d name him Colonel Bock Bock.
That’s so awesome to hear! We can’t make the world accessible but we can make our worlds accessible. Quail in a hutch like this are perfect because you can make it the height and width to be accessible for him to care for. The thing that hurt me the most after being in a wheelchair is watching people take care of my animals for me, so I’ve been very determined to find a way for all the things I want to do and I’m sure he will find the ways that are best for him in these ventures. Thanks for watching 😊
That's exactly the way I build rabbit hutches. For quail I build a shed and fill it with wire cages that have roll out floors, were the eggs roll out to the front.
nice build, I am doing something similar with sandbox in boxed area. didn't see floor in yours, assume plywood. I am building a 2x8 hutch with a 2x2 sandbox in the boxed area, 1/2" hardware cloth flooring on the rest. I'm using 1/4" cloth for the sides and top, we have critters and it will be outside. Two cages, with drip pans and a metal roof over the top with a 12" high storage area above.
@@Andy_rabbit_ better ventilation with wire. I actually divided mine into 2, 24x48 hutches and only have one roo and 4 hens in each one. Need to build a grow out for a bigger group but hens aren't laying right now. Spring will be better!
@@bobcole3852 I ended up not breaking my rabbit cage I was going to use so it's a 6 foot tall 2 foot wide 8 foot long 2 foot high, with a 2x2 sand box on one end, 2 dividers in the cage that I cut doors in for spring/summer breeding groups, and is open for the winter. Middle part has a small sand box (removable) in it with their nest bowls and the end part has their brick and their other sitting tray. All 3 compartment has a feeder in it. They have lots of running room for the winter. No storage above, has wire top. 1/4x 1/4 hardware cloth around the back and sides 1x2 in the front, the inside doors are at the back Incase a arm goes in the front they can run into the next compartment.
I like the idea of wheels. You have already grown quail. I made my cage a lot lower, only like a foot high, and I was wondering if that was ok, or should it be a taller cage. I have only read on it but was told they will fly up and break their neck and that was what the others recommended. Do you feel any differently? I was also told by several that they will not brood in a cage and only sometimes in an open aviary type setting. What are your thoughts. By the way, I really liked your lady's paint job, and gray is a good color. I just found your video and appreciate you sharing the knowledge and video's. I look forward to seeing more.
I always enjoy your videos, but unfortunately for me I live in a tightly controlled subdivision with small yards. I'm limited to what I can build and animals I can raise. I think anyone with a little bit of land and space should take advantage of your videos, because doing so will improve the quality of their lives. I have used your hummingbird lesson to get started with attracting my own little birds. Thanks for your inspiration.
Might check into it if this is something you’re interested in,because even in a lot of subdivisions that don’t allow livestock like chickens and such will allow small coops of quail. Very quiet and need very little space (about 1.5’ per bird) so can make something quite a bit smaller than this. They also are pleasant to listen to so not obnoxious or noisy like other livestock, But this spring there will be quite a bit of videos planned that can apply to the small spaces so stay tuned my friend 😁 I always appreciate seeing your comments on my videos 😊
Yes it is 😁 why I use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire so there’s no way for predators to get to them without some how demolishing the whole hutch

Great design for you guys to easily manage. Spending time up front analyzing needs & developing a well thought out plan = success!👍
Great video, good to see you and your family back.

Yeah I was going to make the roll out cages but went with the fully enclosed this time to keep it secure since the pen won’t be in a shed
great video, cheers
Nice job, and the family grows! I hope your doing well. Morgan is a pro on camera! Cute Lily. I may have had to name her, Spinning Top! 💫
Morgan says thank you ☺️😂 and yes Lilly is very spiny 😂
Nice coup can’t wait to see your next video
My wife has done quite a few videos about our quail and how they did. Go check those out at King Cross Farms!

I am about to build one probably the exact same as you. I’m just going to use 1x1/2 inch on the floor cuz I have it already.
No storage above, deleted that...to high! Small "locking" trash cans below on ground
I haven’t decided if I want to use wire on the top yet, or just use the roof as the top of the cage.

Does the hardware cloth flooring cause foot problems with quail? Also how to you keep the smell down with quail?

Yeah I’m hindsight I wis I would’ve made it lower as well for that very reason

Is this hutch racoon/predator safe? Nice video by the way!

I'm surprised Morgan didn't paint it red.
Hahaha she would have probably other than we have a gallon of grey outdoor paint from the church pew lol
Do they sell quail hach for outdoors?
This hutch can be put outdoors and yes you can buy them 👍
My wife has posted more videos about our quail on our farm channel. King Cross Farms!
