  • Dec.21 -- When it comes to Detroit, the story many outsiders are familiar with is a city in decay. But that's changing. Invest In Detroit and other groups started aggressively redeveloping the downtown. But they're not doing it alone. JPMorgan Chase has invested more than $100 million in Detroit. Bloomberg Businessweek looks at how that's helping change the motor city.

Confidence and investment is returning to Detroit since the election of a European American mayor, who's actually more of a conservative than a liberal. The African American electorate realized that Duggan is the city's last hope in fixing the city's seized motor. In my opinion, they made the right choice at the ballot box - now Detroit's future seems to be on an upward trajectory. Long may it continue.

To be honest I think he just called himself a liberal just to get elected because if he said conservative, he knew he wouldn't have won, nice to see someone else thinks this also

I can tell you an alt-right goofy from describing the mayor as "European American" lmao

Make more debt slaves and increasing debt slavery. They then can own the city when it comes back.

Maybe the borrower was promised a fixed rate, and was given an adjustable rate. Just like what happened with the housing market.

detroit is a big city and its only getting bigger in detroit so prices and housing is going to go up and so is the population to so stop thinking that you are all going to have to spend only $500 a month for a highrise apartment in down town detroit

142 sq miles is nothing; my hometown of Fayetteville NC is 147 and I don’t consider that a large city; Raleigh is about the same size as Detroit about 144 but I don’t even consider that large either; now Charlotte is huge, over 300 sq miles; same as New York minus the water area

If the major ethnic group would come together, agree on a strategy for improvement, and put it into effect it could control a big part of what is occurring. Any group without a code isn't going anywhere.

If only all companies were this philanthropic. It might be easier to tax corporations at a higher rate to make more significant investments in ALL of Detroit neighborhoods, not just the downtown and its neighboring districts. Its great that this company is investing in Detroit's downtown, but perhaps something more drastic needs to be done rto revitalize the entirety of Detroit and other blighted cities.

So, do you want some people to get richer and "hipsters" to move in, or do you want the neighborhood to die by no income, no job, no maintenance and no tax revenue?
