  • Serika Sterling is best known for all the work she does with The Preemie Foundation, however, now we meet the power house behind the foundation. Serika chronicles her extremely rough childhood having been abandoned by her mother and bouncing from family member to family member. In the process, she is sexually violated but a trusted family associate. Her extremely unfair childhood, could see Serika being a victim, but she has healed and works on continued healing to overcome the many obstacles she faced at such a young age. She has gone on to become a successful Accountant operating her own accounting firm, and is currently pursuing her law degree, all while running her foundation.
Not all superheroes wear capes....and Serika Sterling is a living breathing superhero of her own journey.
This is Beauty In the Ashes!

Yendi, you are a tactful, graceful, sensitive, in-tuned, aware, and brilliant interviewer! Each epiode, I marvel at how well you ease into the uncomfortable, pain-inspiring topics and just as gracefully glide back out of that dark zone into more light-hearted and humorous topics!!! You know exactly when and how to ask the tough questions without being intrusive and overbearing. Your silliness and encouragement also come at the perfect time. YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING! Keep up the amazing work and thank you for all that you do. These episodes are therapeutic to many; myself included. Also, a heart-felt thank you to your guests for being so open and vulnerable and for allowing us into the farthest reaches of their intimate lives.

An historic interview; for get about Diane Sawyer or Barbara Walters or Oprah. Yendi; as a male i was floored by the adversity this lady overcame; and by the grace of her faith, and empowerment bu her husband....she has slowly demolished her past demons. I am like speechless; but this was an amazing piece of work. It's time for you to get Kleenex sponsorship ASAP. It's time in our Caribbean community for us as parents; to just listen and be comforting to our kids when we think or feel or suspect that something is not OK with them. One Love YP...

This hits home...I still can’t understand how an adult could question a child who is very explicit in detail about these experiences. The trauma that starts in a child during and after this experience takes soooo much life away from said child that it becomes a win/lose situation whether that child stays alive or takes his/her life.

My siblings and I grew up in a tumultuous home with both parents, we survived it, but they didn’t abandon us. Today, Ms Sterling I am a chartered accountant, God has blessed my with two amazing sons. I tell God every day, that what ever happen under the sun I will never abandon my sons. If life takes us under a tree, I’m going to live under it happily ever after with them.My first born is in his final year at university where he’s studying Philosophy Politics and Economics. POWERFUL. I think anyone who is even thinking about having a child should watch this interview. Sadly some people feel that as soon as they breed they are ready to be parents. They don’t truly understand what a detrimental role they play in their child’s formative years. Parenting is not a job you can afford to mess up because your failures and shortcomings will follow your children for the rest of their lives and shape the adults they turn out to be.

Another courageous and inspiring SHARE. A lot of little girls (grown and young need to hear this) The comments section is lit with all the obvious accolades which I second. But what hit me was the tiny 'mustard seeds'. Serika spoke of the simple hope of tomorrow being enough to live for and that we don't need to be so blessed with finding, knowing and fulfilling our 'passion', but to give 💯 of ourselves in whatever we do. Seems the fashion nowadays is to talk about living out one's passion, which can make some people who feel just ordinary about their talents or interest feel so inadequate and lost all over again.
We simply need to blossom where we are planted at the moment. Do it as if you are doing it for the Lord. Because we are!

Sericka, you are the girl. Fly girl! Continue to soar, see the light and be bold enough to be it. You fought back. I had a "seeing" experience with a boy I taught. It's funny at the time I told the students I would "see" them so there was no need to push and fight. I thought it simple and just what should be done but for him it opened up a whole new world for him, just to know he was seen. Simple things we can do for a child we must do and that is always, every time.

Hi Yendi! You did it again! WONDERFUL!! The Lord can indeed give us beauty for Ashes! I can identify with what that beautiful young woman went through...I've been there...was abandoned by my mother (she and my dad were in a tumultuous relationship) I was approximately 7, my dad raised us, he did a great job (it was really a rough journey) I would randomly visit my mom but couldn't live with her, she was too angry & abusive. By the grace of God things turned out well for me. Thank God!! Much Blessings & Peace to you both. JOHN 3:16 🙏💕🙏

Serika girl, you are such a smart and lovely girl. You were given a second chance and you made good use of it. More power to you girl. I am a teacher, so now I realise I have to pay attention to all students and be alert to their issues. I am so happy that you turned out well. This could have been so devastating for you. I am proud of you girl. Keep striving. I know I will see you on television in the news and I will say yes. Remember the Lord and keep serving him, he will direct your path. Reply to tell me how your sisters fare out. Love you girl.

This is rough! Tears inevitably welled up in my eyes; especially the section where the teacher reached out to her, maybe because I am a teacher. Serika, am happy to see that you are not existing anymore but thriving and touching lives. May God continue to bless and keep you.

Again, I can soooooo relate. My father left when I was 7 and reappeared when I was 19. By the age of 13, I was shipped off to live with a stranger. These are the story of many others . Bless your heart my dear. But I did come back. My heart goes out to those who didn't.

The pendulum swings with the same momentum in both directions. Serika was shaped by Fire. Fire made her the genuine beauty she is today, I know that fire. I too was shaped by fire. I was not abused neither physically or mentally, but being abandoned by my birth mother turned out to be a Blessing, I am the first of 5 children and the only person that was there fore her and took care of her in her final days on earth, and I did it with Grace. I am her most talented and gifted child. I have 4 gifted full skills. The woman that raised me was my greatest Blessing. She was the water and my birth mother was the fire. Serika went through a fire that purified her soul. Like precious metal she was made strong and most genuinely Beautiful. Give thanks for being made genuinely gracious and Beautiful. Peace Love and Light to both of you - Yendi and Seruka keep doin what you do. Love uno
