  • Often women are shamed into silence after experiencing sexual trauma, but thanks to the work of The Angelic Ladies Society, these superbly brave young ladies who have been in therapy and healing from their own experiences, have decided to share with the hopes of breaking the stigma around being a victim of sexual assault.
This is a VERY SENSITIVE topic and I crave your grace and gentleness as we encourage, support and love on these love women who are continuing on their healing journey and continue to find Beauty In The Ashes.
If you or anyone you know have experienced sexual assault or similar trauma please be encouraged to to give up, but seek help and support.

I'm a grown woman who is still carrying scars from experiencing sexual abuse as a child. My experience was similar to Courtney's. Only I was abused by multiple people. It left me with fears that I have never been able to shake off. I was so extremely protective about my kids and now my grandkids. I lived with one of my abusers for years. I ended up running off and getting married at 18 to get away from him because I didn't see any other way to escape. Now, I talk to young women whenever I get the chance and share my story and try to guide them. It's my way to deal it.. I feel, if I can help other girls I'm at least doing something positive with my experience.

Exactly what I kept saying as I watched with tears. I would hope this would even go further, the abusers are reported even if this is years later. I hurt and am also pleased to see how these young ladies are moving on with theirs lives but not without a dark cloud hanging over them. For the mothers who accept the so-called help from the perpetrators, the signs are extremely obvious so stop accepting when you can clearly see the control these ugly, abusive, nasty, disgusting adults are. They can/could be your son, daughters, husbands, stepfathers, son-in-laws, deacons, pastors, priests who we are told to trust. Yes I said it, females also abuse so don't dismiss it. This is why our society is so aggressive and violent, we have no fear of God or human beings. Jamaica let's stand up for what is right and we will get back to what was a loving, fun and upright country. Ladies I take my hat off to you. Yendi, I believe this is one of the most important shows you've done to date. A subject many would not think of broaching as they expect victims would not want to address 'abuse' whether physical or emotional. Thanks and sending love to my beautiful country Jamaica. From 🇨🇦

To Ranique (hope I spelled it right)
For the question, “why did you feel the need to protect him?”
You were not protecting him, but rather you were protecting yourself and your family. Your abuser made himself a type of security for your family.. financially, emotionally etc. He secured your family publicly, while he hurt you in private. You were protecting that public security. As you said, groomers are very strategic, he knew exactly what he was doing.
Secondly, you were protecting yourself from potentially experiencing more trauma.. meaning, telling the world that this “great” man was doing something so bad would bring about a lot of attention which could inflict some more trauma for you. There would be people who wouldn’t believe you, there would be people gossiping about it (especially in the church).. there would be people asking questions and creating their own narrative for YOUR story. Exposing sexual trauma is a lot emotionally and it can definitely traumatize you further if you’re not ready to talk about it. And in your case, you were exposing the monster in someone who’s considered a hero to others.. and that is not an easy thing to do. Telling people that the person they love and adore is actually a monster is scary… and knowing that saying something could affect other people’s lives (beyond the abuser) is a heavy burden to carry. I too was abused and I was very worried that if I said something I would cause others a lot of pain.. specifically the wife of my abuser. I did not want to feel responsible for destroying a marriage. I did not want to feel responsible for causing a woman pain and heartache. Furthermore, I knew and loved his family. I feared causing them pain and creating a riff within a family of people I love. I even feared to some extent that some of his family members would resent me for speaking my truth.
But what I didn’t understand was that anything that happened as a result of me telling was HIS fault. He would’ve hurt his family. He would’ve hurt the people who love him. He would’ve caused his wife pain, he would’ve cause her heartache.. not me.
I imagine you must’ve felt this way about people in your church. People who you love.. people who love your abuser..
With that being said, you were protecting the feelings and emotions of those you love. You mentioned that your father is your person. I can’t imagine how he took the news of your abuse. And I can’t imagine what it was like for you to see your dad process that his baby was hurt by a man who should’ve protected her. When those we love are hurting, we tend to carry that hurt as well. And unless you are absolutely ready to work through the massive amount of hurt and understand (both cognitively and emotionally) that none of it is your fault, telling will break you even more!!
You were NOT protecting that monster. You were protecting yourself and those you love.
I too had the same question asked of me in the past and it took me years to see that I wasn’t protecting him. I hope you can see that too 🤍

This was by far the hardest episode to unpack.Hats off to these lovely young ladies. I feel like Courtney should be elsewhere and not around her immediate family because I can only imagine how much of a trigger they are for her. It's crazy how most of our young girls are experiencing sexual abuse, fondling, incest, rape, etc and we as a society continue to look the other way as if it doesn't exist. We have failed them, both girls and boys and continue to protect the pediphiles by not speaking up.

Being brave and vulnerable is hard, and you young ladies have decided to share your most agonizing experiences and I lift my hat off to you because many individuals never speak of their trauma and it continues to control them for the rest of their lives. The emotional response associated with trauma and traumatic event keeps individuals in the cycle. Breaking the cycle is hard but necessary… healing is important to target shame, self blame, guilt, anger, anxiety, fear, hopeless, confusion and the numbness associated with a traumatic experience.
Sexual abuse and rape is rampant in the Jamaican landscape but is not spoken about. Having these conversations are necessary and helpful to all.

More should be done as the perpetrators are around and is left to do it to someone else. They should be counseling for those men and let them know that the Authorities know what they done . They are just out there to prey on someone else if they haven't done so already and I swept under the rug because of fear.

I love shows like these. They bring awareness to what is happening to our young ladies. My only concern is that I hope when these guests leave, there is help for them outside of these shows. I also hope that psychiatrists and psychologists are involved in assessing if these ladies are mentally ready to share their stories on such a huge platform. What about their families? one young lady said no one in her family knows. After allowing them to be vulnerable, what protection do they have when they leave the show. Do we send them back into their abusive situation

Good evening… as the Executive Director, the interview was done a month or so in advance of being released, her close family members were informed of the interview and she got some time to speak with her mom. They all have been in counseling leading up to interview and their counselors were aware of the interview and have been in dialogue with them since it has been aired. Outside of that we collectively have been praying for them because not everything is physical, somethings come but for prayer and fasting. Myself and Yendi took all the measure we can possible take before recording and releasing the interview. And measures are in place to monitor their reaction and emotions as they navigate the after. All I ask is that you continue to send them encouraging words cause as you best believe it they are reading every comment and be praying for them. Thank you for your support and love. You can follow the Angelic Ladies Society Ltd on Instagram to see and participate in the work that we do. Blessings #shespeaks

This was a very hard watch but a very necessary one. Sadly there are many youngsters who are in this situation in Jamaica. Programs like this will help to highlight that no kind abusive behaviour should be normalised. Not sexual abuse, mental abuse, or physical abuse as it hardens the society in ways that manifest themselves negatively.

Awesome show again Ms Yendi, Awesome guests too. Far too many females and males have experienced sexual assaults and then lifetime trauma it causes. It prevents many to trust or love freely. As a male, I have experienced sexual assaults as a child by older females and many males don't see it as assaults. I have seen many females about to or being assaulted and stepped in and stopped it, while many males join in. 90% of females I have dated as told stories of sexual assaults experienced sometimes by family members, these abuse create a broken world and we need to fix, but not just males abuse of females, but also females of other females and males, and males abuse on females and males.

I commend these young ladies for their bravery. Speaking out is never easy, especially when you're young. I hope their stories wake us up! Sexual predators often seek out vulnerable women; those they feel aren't empowered to fight back or hold them accountable for their actions. We need to prioritize protecting the women in our communities (of all ages). We need to hear them, and like Dr. Morgan said, ask how we can help... and follow through. This was such a powerful episode, Yendi. 💗

God Bless these beautiful, courageous young women ! They are survivors and I am glad that they spoke up.
I am SICK and TIRED of these DISGUSTING Caribbean women, who use their daughters as a MEANS $$$$ for sick and perverted men to put a PRICE on these young girls heads.
Similarly, the other little girl the mother ● protected her predator son , who was molesting her little daughter. ●
I pray for HEALING for these beautiful young women. I hope they continue to HEAL and find a happy place of comfort and everlasting love...💕💕💕and PEACE .

I pray to god for these ladies and also for them to forgive the offenders cause that’s where the true healing process begins. No ladies should have their innocents or childhood taken away from them just like that.

I’m so very proud of these beautiful young ladies. God bless you all for taking this step to share your stories. The question I always have is; Why does it sound as if none of the perpetrators are being punished for what they have done to these kids? Why does it always seem like our (West Indian/Caribben) societies find some way to make excuses for these horrible people? I pray that we can do better for our young people and show them that not only are they not at fault, but the society is there to protect them from these predators. In the words of Lila Ike “sharpen the Las dem, him can’t too hard to find” Thanks for this Yens!

The system is there but most time family members don't want to face societal shame...the system cannot work until the victims and family are willing and ready to go through the process

Wow…. I am moved. Thanks to you all for exposing this topic. Our society needs to do whatever is necessary to raise awareness and take stronger legal stance against offenders and enablers. Girls should know that they will be heard and should yell for help the moment someone crosses ANY line!! Physically and psychologically. These acts should never be tolerated and perpetrators walking free… they will just move on to the next victim!!

I think this was such an important conversation! I’m hopeful that the right person will be listening to this and there will be a cascade of change within the society. Most importantly, that healing will take place within each person who has experienced this level of trauma. I’m grateful you shared the tools and resources available to help- because lack of access is a big barrier to the healing journey.

Let’s facilitate MORE SPACES that allow for speaking out… too many girls and women feel like they have to suffer in silence or hide the truth because the burden of proof is on them and the man is scotch free.. roaming and touching other girls. But I pray that in my capacity that I will always be ready to assist in the healing Process of every woman I come in contact with.. you too can help normalize speaking out… let’s listen more and believe more and if anything be more informed and knowledgeable about signs…

Where do I begin! I’m so hurting for these kids! How can that little girl, still be living in the same house, with her abuser, her flesh and blood, and the mother is ok with it! The mother is abusing her, in another form and needs to be jailed herself! Why aren’t any of these nast, dutty perverts, in prison! Yes this happens all over the world, but the Jamaican government is doing squat about domestic violence and child abuse!

I can connect with everything this therapist has shared and I have been sharing with my family in Jamaica that we do need a trauma informed society. I am currently trauma certified and in the process of completing my Masters in Social Work in the US. Kindly keep in touch since we have a lot of work to do.

Just my thought about the unanswered question for that lovely young lady. I don’t think she was protecting her abuser. She felt the need to provide for her family at that time, she felt that was her only way. She is a survivor and will overcome this experience. This is where we have to put ourselves first and protect our core. Big lesson! So, brave. Your greatness is on exhibition for all to see. Thanks for sharing ✨💕

Just listening to this is hurting something in my belly because even though my uncle tried to he didn't but it still had a traumatic effect on me😞. And also others follow along😞. The trigger words she said are so true 😞😞. But I'm praying and holding on to heal from this trauma and help others girls and boys and know that we all can overcome this, because it's from the pit of hell and we must have Gods strength to look the devil In the eye and tell them “Get thee behind me satan”!!!.

Yendi: oh my God - this one has me in tears 😭. I am almost 50 and to be honest no matter how much counseling I get instances in my life reverts to hurts and pains I experienced in my childhood and adult years by family members and family friends. Sometimes when things get so hard I blame myself even though I know their actions not my fault. See just like each individual I feel I was passed around but the resilience in me is surviving. Jamaica our homeland is grounded in generational trauma that has gone either unnoticed or just given a blind eye. I must honestly say some parents are so entrenched with these abuse they try to normalize it. Strength is within us to rise. Mothers please don’t allow what you experienced to continue due to temporary situations - poverty is not forever. I am a testament to that, I pray my mother would be more open and honest but it’s reality I have to heal for me
