I bought the same tablet on black Friday and seeing it in action is pretty much what I expected. I got mine mainly to stream media (especially when it comes to my internet radio that I stream thru the TuneIn app). Speaker quality won't be a issue because I will patch it thru a stereo speaker with mp3/headphone jack port. Having it will allow me to put less stress on my smart phone by not running it almost 24/7.
I think it is. I used to have a tablet that looked identical to this well over a decade ago. The only thing that's different is the rear camera and flash, the type c port and the os version.
The $39 Onn Tablet is a much better deal from Walmart, it comes with the newest version of Android, and practically has identical specs to the Amazon Fire Tablet, but has stock Android, instead of the weird version that Amazon Tablets get with all of the ads and bloatware.
I agree, but I did get the $39 onn tablet and it is running android go. I returned it after one day. My mistake, I guess I was expecting too much. You get what you pay for.
I picked this up expecting nothing and honestly I'm kinda impressed at what it is for the price. Perfect for streaming some videos or music or reading an ebook while I lay down which is really all I need it to do.
I actually have to give this tablet a lot of credit for being able to do what it does for only 25 USD even in comparison to a Amazon Fire tablet 7 (on sale or not). Is it for me...............a solid NO. I am sure there are some people out there where even scrapping together $25 for a tablet is a hardship and if that's the case this tablet is at least somewhat/marginally functional enough to stream, albeit at 480p, and even get online. I mean it's only $25!!!!! What I'm really questioning is the longevity prospects of this tablet. If this tablet is going to die after only a few months of use than even at $25 it's not worth it. I do agree with you about it not being for kids !00%. A kid would get oh so frustrated with this due to how slow it was they'd probable throw it against the wall within 10 mins of use lol.
These cheap tablets are akin to those free government tablets you get in grocery store parking lots. Nothing special or high end, but disposable enough to not care if it breaks or gets stolen.
You could deactivate/uninstall all the bloatware you don't want/need, and yeah at least use for it for very basic stuff if you had too, or just get a prepaid for about the same price with better specs you know does not need to be activated to use WiFi, and just use that.
Yes, I would like to know how it handles emulation. A device that could handle early arcade games could be useful for projects, and not being chained to Amazon's dumb OS would certainly be a plus.
You can install Android on Fire Tablets if you didn't know already. (Just saying, if you don't like FireOS, maybe consider a tutorial on how to install stock android on one of those?)
@doodledude2d295 If you are taking about what I think you are talking about (Fire Toolbox) that's not replacing FireOS with "stock" Android at all. At best it's possibly replacing the UI launcher and/or tweaking some settings that are, for the most part, hidden from users so FireOS isn't as obtrusive. That's it. It's not replacing anything except the launcher if you want to. Don't misunderstand.....Fire Toolbox is an absolutely great app and definitely is much needed but it doesn't replace the OS. Now if your talking about replacing FireOS on much older Fire tablets with something like Legacy OS that is possible. Unfortunately it's not possible for Fire tablets from the last couple of generations. Amazon made sure they closed that possibility up.
Going to be honest with you, once you said 3 gigs of RAM which is a really weird number like doesn't it usually come in even numbers? The first thing I thought of was there's no way there's going to be a USB type-c connector on here and lo and behold there it is
Once I saw "Android GO" I knew we we were in for a bad time. Android Go is like Windows CE of the 90's to 2000's a hacked up & restricted OS for the lowest tier of hardware (flip phone grade). The best thing for it would be a glorified MP3/Flac player, a emulation tablet for 2nd to 3rd generation console games (might do 2D PS games), or a simple Comic/E-Reader.
And that ladies and gentlemen is what is known as a portable internet radio the first thing you do when you free it out of the box is put it in power saver mode and the second thing is you go in to app settings and see what can be uninstalled
Honestly, having prepared similar deals, this seems like it would be great for a basic control panel. The SOC itself looks to be more at home on a modern refrigerator, but might be nice as a browser-based button panel on a DIY kegerator or custom brew station. Maybe a custom jog control for a 3d printer or in house CNC. But nothing that is going to leave it browsing the internet or downloading general apps. Lack of expected updates makes this a bit of a nightmare in that respect unless it gets at least a custom, maintained, ROM. It has it's place, a very small but legitimate niche, but in the end it is kinda just manufactured e-waste. it would have been so much more had they added something like a USB-A port, or even a second USB-c host port alongside charging.
That A133 cpu is called an Allwinner ;) it doesn't win all, but their chips are not that great, gets really hot after using them for a while, also, they like to (agressively) throttle down to combat the heat, cheap chip = bad optimalizations
Looking up the gpu online , the video codec that UA-cam uses , this tablet only supports up to 720p decoding that codec. The gpu can decode up to 4k for other codecs.
I got one after watching your review. Only one Five Below near me had it in stock! Yes, the processor is slow, like you mentioned. Also, I find that the battery runs hot while in use or while it's being charged. Anyone else find this to be the case? I tried watching Twitch streams on it and it occasionally stutters, but is mostly fine. On UA-cam, it stutters too, more than with Twitch. I'm still figuring it out, but those are my initial thoughts on it. Thanks for the heads up by reviewing it. The algorithm thought I might like your video, and I did. 👍
