The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season.
This is the ninth year the Secret Santa is blessing people in our community and every day, from now until the end of the year, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.
Ruth Clark's story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, resilience, and selflessness. She has faced more challenges and heartache than most of us can even fathom.
She and her husband raised five beautiful children together. Their four sons were born with Muscular Dystrophy and over time, each one of them died from complications associated with this devastating illness. Her only daughter, Becky, also died from a different illness leaving Ruth and her husband with no living children.
Despite the weight and disappointment of losing all her children, Ruth embraced her role as a caregiver with grace and dedication. She balanced her role as a devoted wife and mother with her job, which she held for many years. She sacrificed her own dreams and desires to ensure her family received the care, attention, and love they needed. Her strength, both physical and emotional, was nothing short of remarkable. It was not uncommon for her to work a full day and then come home to attend to her children’s needs, all the while ensuring her husband had the support he required.
After Secret Santa surprised a young father with ALS in 2017, Ruth called and asked if she and her husband Rick could donate their wheelchair-accessible van to the family. She showed up at their Ucon home and gave them the vehicle.
Tragically, Rick died last month, leaving a void in Ruth's heart that will never truly heal.
Secret Santa heard about Ruth and asked the East Idaho News team to pay her a visit with an early Christmas gift. Watch the surprise in the video player above.

I can't imagine the hurt but I understand how it's hard but she will continue to live. I know this because on the morning I found out that my mom had passed away, if I could have laid down and died, I would have, but I didn't. We're God's children and when che wants us to come home, we leave.
The handicapped van she donated could have been worth up to $40-50,000 and she gave it selflessly. What a wonderful woman.
Easily worth that much! And the freedom of being able to leave home to participate in life and family activities for someone with a fatal disease --making memories is priceless!

I thought I had it rough!!! We lost our home and everything in it in January 2021, my husband passed in May 2021, then my dad passed in December 2022. He lived with us for 35 years. My husband passed after 52 years together but I cannot imagine the sadness in her heart losing her children. I want to send a lot of love and big hugs to her. She is loved by many.
I'm glad to see that she lives in a nice home and still has a bunch of grandchildren. In any event, it looks like she and her husband took care of business throughout their lives, but it's definitely a nice thing that that she won't need to worry about the funeral expenses, and will now be able to focus 100% on her husband'e memory, instead of needing to worry about an imposing bill associated with his passing..

It is hard to say goodbye to your spouse, but it is unnaturally heartbreaking to survive your children. I wish her sweet days of healing in her future.

OMG. What a terrible few years Ruth has gone through. I cannot fathom losing my entire family like she has. I am writing this with tears pouring down my face. When Ruth said she was left alone and her husband was with their children, I just broke. They say you shouldn’t have to bury your children but, for Ruth and her husband to have lost all five of theirs, and then to lose her husband as well, how does she keep going? I live in Australia and think this Secret Santa show is just wonderful. Thank you to everyone involved in making Ruth’s life a little easier. I get very overwhelmed with my own illness and pain of nearly 37 years and my sweet husband's too, but this is so unbearable, it made me feel grateful for my own trials. I have always asked God to let me suffer rather than seeing my children and grandchildren suffer with my genetic illness. I am so grateful the Lord has answered my prayers!
