As a Burmese myself, I am amazed by a lot of similarities with Burmese culture and traditions shared by these local people. So great to see this aspect of China. Thank you for making this video.
This is true. I've noticed it as well that the Southwestern region of Yunnan shares the same or identical tradition, culture and motifs to Burmese and numerous other non-Bamar ethnicities in Myanmar. Some ethnic groups found in Myanmar such as Wa, Lahu, Shan and a few others are also recognized as official ethnic minority groups in China.
When the first time I went to Chinese city called Mangsi City 芒市 (မန်စီမြို့) which is a county-level city and the seat of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture next to Myanmar border, it came to my surprise that so many Tai (Dai) Chinese women wearing Longyi just like women in Myanmar, especially look exactly the samelike Shan ( Dai) women from Shan state. Later I found out that China and Myanmar share many minority groups of people like Jingpo (ဂျိမ်းဖေါ၊ ကချင် Kachin), Wa, Lahu, Tai (Shan), Lishu etc.,
Yes there are a lot of similarities between Chinese and Burmese. I was in Myanmar in 2018 and the first I noticed when I met some people from Shan state, instantly I felt their facial features I thought they looked like Han Chinese people. Burmese in Yangon didn't really look Chinese but I can tell among the borders states there are some similarities
As a retired HK Chinese American, this is a great video to learn about my culture, which has shaped my life. Thanks. I remember sugar cane from my childhood in Hong Kong. My mother would cut it into 2-inch pieces and split them into four wedges so we could bite into the soft part.
Very interesting video. Yes they seem southeast Asian. China has more diversity than the west. It is accepts it as part of the whole nation. Enjoying the countryside journey. Not what most westerns see. Thank you for the vlog.
I found this vidéo priceless, perhaps BC you involved so much of your mind, hearth and even body in it HAHA! (the steep mountain trail) Nature has an uncanny way to change beings.
Beautifully photographed and presented. Gives us an inside view and leaves us with a feeling of heart connection to these people. As we know, nation state is a very recent idea - but the natural spread of history has always been without borders - hence the connection between ethnicities across various regions. I'm fascinated by the spread of Buddhism from India to China and feel that a rare jewel of Asian and world thought was achieved during this time. (Ch'an Buddhism) Perhaps you might want to track this cultural spread at ground level, as I'm sure it would be fascinating and could make an interesting framework for a series!
Wow ! Siming, You're a wonderful filmmaker, Not just beautiful shots and incredible sequences, but you convey so much warmth and heartful mesagges. Just loved it. Big Huge BRAVO!!!

@Gman979 Hong Kong has been ruined by the authoritarian CCP regime. The "rioters" were students who peacefully protested and were supported by all. The people of HK have literally been beaten into submission. No wonder Taiwan doesn't want to go down that path. Pro CCP stooges can say what they like but I happened to be there when it all came to a head. I saw it with my own eyes. Terribly sad.

Hi, Sis. So interesting learning about Chinese ethnic diversity and seeing how they share similarities with neighbouring countries but part of the Chinese nation. I hope you plan on visiting Tibet and if you do so, please visit the Daman village close to Gyirong Town, they are an ethnically Nepalese community but classified as Tibetan as they share very strong cultural similarities to the Tibetans. I've seen some videos about them but it'll be good to learn more about them, especially in English as the other videos are in Chinese.
Though American, I was born in Thailand where my family lived for several years in the 1950s and early 1960s . I could see the similarities in these cultures. What a beautiful and interesting video. Enjoyed it very much. I’m enjoying your videos of China so much!

I also went to a Night school to learn Mandarin, with a Chinese man I lived with in Wellington, NZ. Beautifully put together video, I can just say more, With all the Love............
Another great travel video! Thanks for exploring this part of China and sharing with us. 2 questions out of my curiosity: 1) How did you finance yourself? Is being a successful youtuber enough to sustain this traveling lifestyle? 2) As an English second language speaker, how did you maintain your English level so well when you are in China? I noticed that I lost my spoken English quickly without using it intensitively for a while. Do you actively talk to yourself daily? Thanks in advance.
Beautiful video! Eating a rodent is not unheard of for me even being born in the States. Here in the South it is not uncommon for people to hunt and eat squirrel, another type of rodent. Ive eaten it...and it tastes good. They also have a very clean diet and lifestyle compared to chickens and hogs.
I had forgotten how much II enjoyed your videos. The make me imagine that I can have the same experience. But of course this is impossible. I’m American living in Japan for more than 25 years. Originally when I was a university student I said I want to live in China, marry, have a family and work for reforming the community where I lived education system. I w very idealistic, I even had a copy of the little Red book.
Miss Siming, I am pretty you are supposed to say Southeast Asia instead because Southwest Asia is literally the Indian Ocean itself. Also, you looked good with a cowboy hat!

Minorities have to improve themselves. 1st reason, knowledge and technology at least help them know better to themselves, their lands and the plants, then live so called 'better' lives; 2nd, even they do not take the initiative to improve, they will fall out of time and only produce farm products for other people. So why not do it actively, gogogo. Good video, well done Siming :)
I wish the world would adopt/choose one language ( I don't care which one) to call the HUMAN language ..then we could all learn THAT one as our second language...it would become the only other language we would need to learn.
I think the world is not as black and white and most people think. It's just lazy generalization and easier to group things but the world is a spectrum of people/habit/cultures especially those in borders of two countries will share a lot of similarities.
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it!🍵Don't forget to like, comment & subscribe to get more people see this side of China. ❤Talk to you in the comments:)
