SF citizens and small businesses, take back your city. The mayor and the supervisors don't care about you, they only care about their jobs and protecting criminals and homeless crazies. Vote!!
the Dollar twenty five store stop selling big cutting knifes because the hoodlums would come in, go to the knife aisle, unwrap a large carving knife and then hold up the cashier for money....one stop robbing, get your weapon and the cash all in the same place.
Once a beautiful, BELOVED city that California and the U.S. could be proud of, to show off to the world. And because of the S L U G S in government, local and state, it's a free-for-all, an open sewer, an eyesore; definitely not safe -- for possessions or people (tourists especially). It NEVER should have devolved like this. Matters like this contribute to 'the mass exodus.'
If you look at the result of super Tuesday, the majority of Californians think the current policy works fine. I must agree with the result. Current policy is working great... for the criminals. I think Californians deserve it. It's what they want. Keep them in charge.
She is an idiot. What difference does it make even if you have plenty of trained officers if the useless criminal justice system refuses to deliver any meaningful punishment.
Right now the stores can only use deterants to make it harder to shoplift...as far as the DA, they need to start showing people sitting in jail with charges to get tge message out...there are consequences
I don't understand why people steal like this. If you actually need something to survive, you can ask the people in the store for help. A lot of them will do whatever they can to help someone eat or shower or get a clean change of clothes...
The stats could actually be down, but that could just mean fewer crimes are being reported. When the store manager in this story was asked if he filed police reports, he lowered and shook his head and said "That doesn't really do anything." A lot of people aren't bothering to report crimes because they think it's pointless. Six houses were broken into on my block last year, and only two of the victims filed police reports.
I can understand the hardware store not allowing someone past the tables, if your not there to shop...your trespassing. Sure, everyone has gone into a store intending on purchasing something but didn't find what we wanted...but we were shopping. These shoplifters aren't shopping
Our family lived a few blocks from there on Union Street and we often went to this long time family run business. VERY sad to know the neighborhood/area that I remember from decades ago, has come to this, that all this family did was be there and serve us, is treated that way with no one helping them. The table in the aisle, is actually how businesses were run years ago, where instead of the customer roaming the aisles, you went to the counter and asked about an item which was brought to you to see and if you decided to, purchase it there. Very sorry to see.
If this isn’t indicative of the culture we live in and we’re moving towards, I don’t know what is. We seem to live in a culture where lawlessness is okay. Citizens must take matters into their own hands because there is no consequences for criminals. They are not stopped or prosecuted. In a country and city, San Francisco, of so much “progression” it seems to me, we’re only going backwards. It’s the Wild West! How’s all that working out for you San Francisco.
just tell customers to leave a note of what they want to buy, at the front and have staffs get them for you. The good old fashion toys-rus method. Or have all customers deposit their clothes upfront before shopping.
The owner that said police reports don't do anything, yes it does. By not filing the reports, the crime statistics will show what appears to be a drop in crime, and the police, DA, and mayor will use that to say "see, crime is dropping, what we're doing is working", when we all know it's not.
Yes, businesses should file police reports, but that takes time. Time is valuable. If shoplifting is literally unpunished, what's the point in spending your valuable time filing reports?
Am I the only one who doesn't care about the expensive boutique getting robbed? I think the hundred something year old family run hardware store is more important than a bougie boutique...
I feel sorry for these people who have their businesses, and that they have to rely on themselves, or with the other business owners in their neighborhood to watch out for each other, and put more security in their own stores to protect themselves from being robbed. Aloha!
Six house on my block were broken into and robbed since last summer, and some neighbors who had a bunch of Amazon packages stolen from in front of their house went out right after work and bought a security camera, an impact drill and masonry bits and installed the camera right after getting back home and reading the instructions. It was almost 11pm when they got around to doing the installation, and from half a block away, I heard power tools going late at night, so I took my cell phone and pepper spray and went to check it out. Of course, I found out it was nothing, but the neighbors told me they were surprised to see me because nobody else came to look. People on this block either have a huge normalcy boas that prevents them from considering that something might be suspicious, or they bury their heads in the sand to avoid getting involved when they do hear or see something suspicious.
My business was literally locked inside of the APEC convention area with maybe 100+ cops right in front of my store and I still got shoplifted🥲 and while I hoped the cops would do something they just said “it’s just soda”💀💀💀
a thought politicians/ board of supervisors should it make it a law for no masks in stores with out prior unveiling and recording on video. Maybe a good idea to saves stores and if let's make shore there are images to help identify problem people. At least there is good evidence to share with da and law enforcement and public to make these perpatators pay for their crimes!
You sound exactly like the people that don't want a new methadone clinic in their neighborhood because they think it will increase the crime rate. Actually, it does the exact opposite. GFY 🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼
It looks like a like a good store to nice and can not be replaced im glade they are doing what they have to yes its inconvenient but at least its not folding up shop😊

One of the many reasons why I left that sh*thole state.
Amen to that.
128 years ago there was little shop lifting the store employees had a gun and were allowed to dispatch the criminals.

promte BLM and not supporting your local PD this is what you ended up.. choices = consequence
Are you suggesting that the Police aren't doing their job on purpose? I'm beginning to wonder...
your taxes are not high enough. Politicians are not giving up their salary for your protection.
Stop voting for this.
But vote blue right
Yeah when business owners like the target CEO admit this is all bs it is correct to in fact vote blue glad to see you’re coming around
This is what “low quality of life” looks like.
USA always searching for the bottom.
They speak the truth. The city doesn’t give a damn about small business. Small business owners won’t lick their boots.
The shoplifters: "dAs RaYsIs"
You go left, check all the boxes with all the D next to it, this is what you are rewarded with. But Lord knows, you'll keep doing it.
Sad, but all too true.
The best way for SF leaders to tackle their crime epidemic is to resign for promoting lenient sentencing and de-funding the police.
The politicians of SF do NOT report to the citizens who elected them.
I don't blame the shop owners at all. Theft is out of control. Disgusting.
It’s clearly the shop owners you pinhead
The policies to reduce mass incarceration is working out as planned. These merchandises are also released off the shelves without cash bails.

Under a $1000 reports do nothing.
Police reports do nothing in California if the amount of the stolen item or items is under $999. It’s bullshit.
You are wise.
My favorite hardware in the city. Thanks for help saving on of our gems here. Smart staff. Human smart, not AI .
Thanks Scott Weiner .
wow...never thought that area of SF would be hit. what's next? noe valley? presidio?
It's a completely Democratic area, so yea, it's pretty easy to predict that was gonna happen....
The police?…NO. Preventing crime is NOT the job of police. The job of police is to enforce a stronger Police Union
Treat the theives like so, gotta do what you gotta do nowadays.
Sad.
