@@RacingRamFam The harmonic balancer! the fact that the harmonic balancer is not pinned to the crank and instead sits on a tapered snout, is a huge issue. It is as important as any other issue you covered, if not more.
I used to own an 04 and luckily didn't experience any of the problems you described. I actually traded my 01 Ford Lightning for it. Loved my Ford but the looks of the viper truck plus the test drive did it for me. Always had people wanting to see the Viper motor. Had to sell due the divorce. Miss it a lot
You are spot on with everything! I have a 2005 RC and replaced the oil cooler lines, the power steering lines, the factory shifter, the brakes, brake lines (got stainless lines). That T56 is nigh indestructible. I have LOTS of pulls on it and it is still going strong. 62k miles and still humming.
These are really cool trucks. I test drove a brand new silver 2004 SRT-10. The sticker price was around $55,000 if I recall correctly. I didn't hammer on it since it was brand new, but the salesman whined like a little girl any time I gave it over 25% throttle. My wife, who I was two weeks away from getting married to would have broken it off if I had bought that truck. However, I told the guy he lost a sale for being a whiny little girl. I still wish my 1998 Ram SS/T had been offered with a V10/T56. I like the older bodystyle better and was stoked when they revealed the Viper powered concept. Too bad that truck never made it to production.
THE thing to know is Gen 3 Viper motors have crank oiling issues. I spun two bearings at no fault of my own. Many Viper owners lost their motors with around 1,000-2,000 miles on them, especially if it hadn’t had an oil change in a while, even if you haven’t put many miles on it, the second you punch it, you could be looking at a $15-$18k rebuild like me. So WATCH YOUR OIL PRESSURE! Fortunately I rebuilt with forged internals and there are crank oiling mods you can find online to make sure you never have to worry about it again. So now I can run higher boost with my new Roe Roots Supercharger at 10 or 12 psi with water/meth injection, headers, side exit exhaust, performance cam and expecting 750-775 hp. Also know that Gen 4 heads bolt right up to Gen 3 motors and make an instant 100 hp increase naturally aspirated. Pricey, but good. 👍🏻
1- Don't. 2- Check to see if you can get insurance. 3- Buy shares in Exxon. 4- Buy a welder and make sure you can weld, 5- Don't drive it in the rain, snow, ice, frost, autumn!
48RE (aka the real Torqueflite) In my humble opinion was a good/great trans. They could be built to handle all the power you could throw at it. I agree maintenance was key, but it was far from problematic. .........yours truly, Steve
100%. Great transmission. The problem is they cheaped out on the converter from factory. It starts slipping, builds heat. #1 killer of an automatic is heat. I will be moving back to the Mainland with my 2012 Avalanche Z71 (I know, way different truck! 8-P) but will be on the lookout for a single cab SRT10 when I get there and keep your hints in mind. The only thing you may want to add is the difference in rear gear ratios (4.10s in the 04s vs. 4.56s in the 05-06s and Quad Cabs); to that end; do you or your club friends run shorter than stock rear axle ratios? Thanks man
Sick ass truck thanks bro
Thank you
Well done! Good video
Auto Detour thank you sir!
I have one exactly like yours
Nice man! Fun trucks
As if the v10 viper motor didn't have enough power... Let's slap a giant turbo on it.
True lol
Thanks! I got my hands on the ever elusive 06 Nightrunner quad cab. Looking forward to squaring this all away when I return stateside in 4 months. Question though. What made you choose turbo over supercharger? I am exploring boosting mine vs making an all motor monster so I enjoy all perspectives.
Turbo free power! But ya if I was to go back when I had stock engine I would of went with a roe supercharger they sound sick.
@@RacingRamFam anything done to the motor? As in is it stock with boost?
i have been told the engine Block is pretty weak and it cant handle much power.. is this true it need cylinder sleeves?.
No rods and pistons are weak blocks solid to 1500hp.
@@RacingRamFamok, tank you 😊
If ya delete the door does that allow you to still get all your heat an all your air conditioning too ?
Yes.
@@RacingRamFam ok that’s good to know .. thanks for your quick response back .. 👍 if I may ask .. I swapped out my original factory 1 hole injectors outa my 2002 ram 1500 5.9 magnum , for the exact same factory spec injectors only they have 4 small holes in them .. after doing so it now runs a little rough at idle an feels like it not same power off the line but really gets after it half way through an pulls real hard .. will it or does it take a bit of driving time for them to adjust or the computer to adjust as in the air fuel mixture an such ?
@@DarrensTruckzs yes you def need a tune.
@@RacingRamFam thanks very much 👍 appreciate your advice !
@@DarrensTruckzs hell ya man
Great now I just need a quick 30 thousand dollars
Can i ask a dumb question? While explaining the brakes did i see a hole in the front passenger side fender or is that a reflection? if its a hole what is for? Thanks !
Yes it’s a hole it’s actually my exhaust dump for my waste gate!
I'm seeing so many reason to trade my SHO in for this. Idk why...but I am... (I'd be loosing so much techy stuff, and A LOT of gas mileage)..this truck looks bad ass as fuck..
That are! And extremely fun to drive
you know im a fan. VENOMAZSRT10
I’m a fan of your beautiful red srt 10!
06 right?
1st thing to know.. its not fast compared to modern trucks.. mine ran a best of 13.9 in 2009 but mine was manual so that was a glory pass..
I mean it’s a dial up modem technology vs a I phone lol there fast for have a slow af pcm
@@RacingRamFam No hate.. I love your truck.. and its obviously a bad ass machine.. Just my experience with my red 04.. It was a fun truck until I T boned a corrola full of idiots running from another accident..
@@Clutch_Kick187 dang man! That was prob a sad day
Thanks for a very informative video! I live in Hawaii and have seen maybe a half dozen SRT10s all on Oahu so they are a rare bird here. Mahalo Nui Loa! ("Thank you very much" in Hawaiian)
I’m going to be dropping to a 3.55 on my 04 for drag racing!
I Want one.
Buy one.
Terimakasih saran nya broo
Thank you man
With the brake locking, is that only for high mileage SRT10s as you mentioned, or is for any KM SRT10 with the 4 piston brakes?
It’s usually just high mileage ones like 100,000 miles
@@RacingRamFam Appreciate it!
It's for any mileage. Mine were stuck at 10k miles
Are high mileage srts still worth buying? (Closest one to me has 74k and I'm gonna buy it )
That’s not high miles lol
I’d rather buy one that’s been driven not sitting... you have more issues with the trucks that all they do is sit
@@RacingRamFam alright thanks don't know what high miles are considered on these type of trucks so had 2 ask and it says it has a supercharger so that's a bonus
What supercharger just be careful with that cause not a lot of people tune these trucks right
@@RacingRamFam it says it's a paxon nova supercharger
Would this be a good first truck
Hell ya!
Now go on at get down!!!!!!
🌶🌶
Nice truck, too many ads in the video
What program did you use to tune the truck
Sct3200
Thanks for your video, it's very informative. May i ask you where you bought your front caliper rebuild kit, and your hoses replacements ? Thanks for your time.
