You missed an enormous opportunity on this flight. Years ago we flew from Johannesburg to Rio...daytime. We left at about 10AM Africa time and arrived at about 2 PM Brazil time. The great thrill was flying over the Namib Desert at a relatively low flight level. I am Angolan and unfortunately i have to agree with you, Taag is not capable to keep the first class and even lot of Taag workers and crew agree with it, Taag is facing lot of problems and the last management was the worst, they came up with lots of bad measures that only got its situation worse, the new management is trying to save it, let's give them some time, but as to first class, let Taag just leave it for the strongest, because first class is service with high quality, it is a mockery Taag keeping on calling mediocre service as first class, a good business for us is enough. i hope they watch the video, read the comments and start working hard to change the situation.
Great to hear from an Angolan on your thoughts! I will say that the renovation plans and new airport are showing some great will amongst Angola’s aviation market. Hopefully they can keep the ball rolling and grow with this momentum! They’ve got a real opportunity, and it would be incredible to see it executed!
@@PatrickSheaAviation , i hope so, because we are a little skeptical about this so called renovations, we're even afraid this new airport might be a new white elephant because of so much bad experiences this government makes us go thru, they are the cause of the disgraces of Taag. By the way, i watched your TR Jakarta- Amsterdan and i enjoyed it a lot, i couldn't imagine that the next would be Taag, let's remember that Taag and Guaruda entered the blacklist of European aviation at the same time in 2007 and left it at almost the same time, i always think about it😂🙂.
Didn’t the last management become the first administration to bring TAAG to profit? If they did that in just 2 years imagine what they could have done with public support in 5 years. I’m not sure what measures you thought they brought that were bad? I would be interested to know. They had to deal with sabotage (the Aviation committee blocking their plans to expand cargo to make profit- then they could have paid the debt of $10M that they were given as the previous managers had not paid the bills). 40,000 blankets and 4 containers worth of product had ‘gone missing’ from the warehouses, things were being stolen at every part of the chain so this needed to be fixed. You know workers of any company will berate managers when they get rid of people, but when you have a lack of skills and a surplus of people (there were over 70 ppl on expat packages in Brazil- any normal airline would have about 3 in an outstation) then unfortunately unpopular changes need to happen. You know the new administration are already losing 30% of revenues and the likelihood is TAAG will simply collapse. I just hope that a distaste doesn’t happen caused by poor management of maintenance 🤞
@@sanidadeelogica4979 , it was what they said and they believe being true, they weren't for sure the worst, but the best at the point to bring profit, is a deceit.
Egyptair has never served Brazil with scheduled flights, though it did operate a few charters. Royal Air Maroc did serve Brazil on two different occasions. The first was Casablanca-Rio de Janeiro back in the 1970s and 1980s using 747s (and it was celebrated for excellent service back then). Despite São Paulo being the largest city and economic capital of Brazil, and by far the largest local market in the country, it lacked a large international airport of its own until the mid-1980s, when Guarulhos ("gwah-ROO-lyoos", similar to "Julius") was opened, hence the routing through Rio. RAM returned in the late 2010s using 787-8s (this time to GRU), but it suspended its flights during the pandemic and never returned. TAAG also suspended its flights during COVID, but it returned as soon as it could. Yes, the newer international Terminal 3 at GRU is flashier, but it was somewhat underdimensioned, and LATAM has had to move some of its international flights back to the larger but older T2, especially during the nighttime long-haul rush hour. Most Latin American and African airlines operate from T2 (Copa Airlines and South African operate from T3). Spain's Air Europa is also in T2, but Iberia is in T3. Since all domestic flights (other than Azul's, which operate from the very small T1) also operate from T2, and GRU is by far the busiest domestic airport in Brazil as well, T2 can be very congested and a nightmare at some times of the day.

The alternative to the direct flight might be TAAG Luanda Johannesburg and then South African Airways Johannesburg Sao Paolo. The 2nd leg JNB-GRU allows the use of Star Alliance perks due to South African Airways being a Star Alliance member just like UA🇺🇲 and AC🇨🇦 in North America. Option 3 is TAP Portugal LAD-LIS-GRU Star Alliance perks in effect thanks to TP Skyteam routing is LAD-CDG-GRU useful for Skymiles owner. Looks like the same as a Korean Air Kosmo Sleeper Suite.
Hope you will enjoy the country I was born and raised. If you are lucky on flights to Foz Do Iguaçu sometimes the airplane will fly over the "Cataratas Do Iguaçu" during the final approach and is a sight to see! Landing at Rio De Janeiro Santos Dummont is also an adventure on its own. Talking about Taag, they are trying to serve as a low-cost airline between South America and Europe, they offer really cheap flights from Brazil to Portugal. They are trying to change their strategy and work more like a low-cost airline that connects South America and Europe at least that is how people in South America see them. I can see that they could be a more business-focused airline as well, considering how big the influence of China is in South America and Africa, and since all Chinese airlines stopped operating in South American countries Angola could be the country to bridge this gap. Let's wait and see what they will end up doing.
Great points! I didn’t get to spend much time in Angola unfortunately, but with the airline and airport going through major changes, there’s no doubt I’ll be back!
Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, Ethiopian, and European airlines such as AF/KL, LH, and BA already bridge the market between Brazil and China (and Japan, which is an equally or more important Asian market from Brazil). It will be tough for TAAG to compete with all of them, especially Ethiopian with its usually much lower fares, unless TAAG offers really crash fares. Even if they go that way, they're likely to be offering few weekly flights, while all others fly daily (QR and AF twice daily from GRU). So, I don't see them becoming a major player on that route.
Great video Patrick! Not any more to say as I don’t want to slay this flight with criticisms too much but you know all the shortfalls! 😂 Cheers 🥂 Patrick -Caleb’s Aviation 😅
Dear Patrick , I just started follow you. I am extremely impressed with yours amazing informations. You cover from political do economical comments about the countries and airlines. This is really a great pleasure watch your videos. I got delighted. Please continue with your terrific dedication and quality. I wish you all the best 😀
My eyes widened at that myself. This is my first video of yours that I’m watching so I don’t know your type ratings, but I seriously doubt that, for example, a GA pilot only rated to fly a single engine prop without night or instrument ratings would be much use in a 777! Plus if one of the pilots were incapacitated being in first class you’d see at least some of it. And the crew would use the intercom to ask if there were any pilots aboard.
As an angolan, I am too familiar with this poor service, poor quality of a company. I'd rather buy a more expensive ticket from TAP, Air France or Lufthansa to Angola, than to use TAAG. Yeah, unpatriotic I know, but I've been through the worst experiences imaginable with Taag. At least your flight was in 1st class.. Imagine the service in economy.
Did you know that you traveled on the oldest plane in the fleet, the two newest planes D2-TEJ and TEK have a much better first class and a much better business class but they only fly to Lisbon for the most part
11:44, Really? No way. It's almost similar to Jet airways, the IFE TV, remote, USB and universal power outlet is not working and outdated cabin. Angola airlines needs a refurbished cabin on the old plane.
Well, It couldn't be worse ………… DISASTROUS, ohhhhh my GOSH, they don’t have idea of what a First Class service is, not even the minimum they offered !!!!!!!
I cannot wait to move to Africa and travel more in the southern Hemisphere. Ethiopian is Africa's giant by miles and I swear every month they're adding new destinations. I have family in Luanda and Benguela so I will look forward to flying TAAG when I next visit, hopefully in their new airplanes
Nice to see another African airline and destination be featured! Hopefully TAAG will get the same recognition as Ethiopian, South African and Kenya Airways. - Red
This is a business seat installed in a first class configuration. That's it. The only compensation is the feeling of this empty cabin like a private jet. I remember the same experience on a SAA flight with the cockpit door let opened for a few minutes...
They have been like that for long, it is not only the Covid that brought Taag to this situation, something is being done to change it, i hope it happens as soon as possible.
I’ll give them the fact that English isn’t as common in Angola. I’d guess it was accidentally printed that way and then they just kinda left it. Figured no one would really notice/care
Never had the pleasure of flying said airline but I have had the pleasure of seeing their aircraft out of the window of my planes at Lisbon and Johanesburg.Pretty hard to get a visa for Angola but I suppose as a transit passenger you don't need to worry about that.
Taag relies on state subsidized fuel to keep prices low, I think their strategy is continuing to be a low cost flagship of sorts. I think it's crazy, but some Brazilians and Portuguese consider a layover in Luanda on their way between those countries to save a few bucks.
@@AndreMarques45 , we were also hopeful when the B777's arrived, they were the best choice, we heard a lot of statement about the performance of these plane and the Boeing737, look now at the way the are, they also did the same with the new planes bought from Boeing decades ago, the new ones to be and the new airport are not going to change anything if we do not change our mindset, the way we deal with aviation, the responsibilities and commitment with the business.
I fly them 2-3 times a year because they are by far the quickest (and cheapest) route from Cape Town to Lisbon, but in my experience the infotainment system has not worked in any year post covid. You just learn to download stuff yourself and I prefer eating at the airport before the flights. Maybe the new Airport will improve the overall experience. It will open later this year, but they been saying that since 2015.
I'm always so intrigued by these lesser known airlines, what a mess of a flight and the boarding process! I'm still a bit gobsmacked they had you hang around for so long instead of boarding first. I assume the newer planes are really nice, though.
Your video title was dramatic for you, Patrick. Yet, it's still less dramatic than the typical titles from Josh Cahill and Nonstop Dan. It was really nice hearing about how you're respectful of other passengers by doing what you can to not disturb them...unlike, well you know!! 😜 If TAAG is to partner up with a U.S. airline, they will have to certainly step up their game like Aeroflot had to years ago in order to join Sky Team. Time will tell! Patrick, once again you are able to criticize with tact and balance and without being a Drama Queen. Thank you again for that, unlike other vloggers such as....well, you know!! 😉 Nice job overall once again. 9.775
It’s funny, I left a negative comment on this video, for some reason, after watching another video regarding how bad were most African airlines, I disagree with that and left that comment on your video, I apologize, obviously deleted the comment after I realized my mistake. Sorry. This is a great video and i think it is Ok to give a try this airline and another one too, leaving a honest review definitely help the airline to correct their weaknesses and become a better competitor with other better airlines. I also subscribed to your channel.
@@PatrickSheaAviation I have had several airline and airport staff who said I should not film. I understand if it’s in a security area in an airport but walking around the shops giving an airport or lounge tour is not going to compromise security. Most times it’s just staff who are power tripping. Always ask why you can’t film and see what they say. There are times when I felt very uncomfortable with airline staff saying I can’t take photos or videos in the cabin even though I am respecting everyone’s privacy. Ask Why and engage in a conversation with them. Love the work you’re doing!
@PatrickSheaAviation Good staff. But I just wanted to make you aware that they too fly to Sao Paulo from both Johannesburg and Cape Town since mid-October 2023. And soon, they are going to reintroduce their Johannesburg to Perth flights.
But it’s normal to have your shoes on on airplanes… and unless people have been standing on the armrests, headrests, and table, I’m not sure you’ve got a case bro 🤷♂️
i'm confused,is this business or first class, because there's some difrence,if it is business it's just ok ,be honest with you i like this old seats better than the ones they're using nowadays, this class should be exemplar clean ,,and seems like it's a bit used and not to clean, have a nice flight!
If nobody ever flies with them in first class, how come there is so much wear and tear in the cabin? Wow. That's way worse than my absolutely worst premium flight experience so far on SCAT (yes, that's the Kazakhstan airlines name, verbatim). I thought nobody could outdo them in the crappy hard and soft ptoduct category, but TAAG managed to do the impossible.
1. This is not first class. It is business class on a bus if that. 2. There are airlines who have fired the entire crew when UA-camrs make negative reviews on their airline. So I too would had asked you to stop filming. This video while it leaves a negative review is very nice about it. I’ve seen UA-camrs complain about arbitrary things like they are King Charles. All that said. Good video. I enjoyed it.
Brooo , you got took 😅. You paid for “first class “ but ended up with premium economy 😂. They didn’t want you filming because they’re embarrassed of their product!!
Waste of money for what could be seen as an arrogant, disrespectful and ridiculous offering. You were very kind to them but they deserved you going full Karen on them to get some of your money back. Embarrassing is the word for such filth and poor service.
lol the only thing keeping me from “full Karen” was just that their location and markets are very tough to serve in. Not entirely an excuse for their product, but still explains some of it. At least they have the plans for renovation
Actually the date that marks Angola’s independence from Portugal is the 11th of November, not the 4th of February that is concerned with an uprising that took place in 1961 that then led to the colonial war fought between the Portuguese army and the Angolan forces that wanted their country to become an independent nation ✌️
Given Angola's robust economy, the country could support a flag carrier provided that it offers a competitive product. Looking south to South Africa: 1. The country is teetering towards failed nation status. 2. SAA has been having financial difficulties for years. With that, TAGG eclipsing SAA in the midterm is plausible.
That would be a very interesting thing to watch. I know SAA has had a troubled revival, but it seems like TAAG has a shot at taking a good piece of the market there!
Out of all of it, I’m struggling to wrap my brain around the concept of two cabin crew firstly, having a problem with the sole first class passenger moving seats-particularly given that several things on the seat he had weren’t working or stopped working… And secondly these two cabin crew, despite all of the extensive “people skills” training they received, felt unable to deal with you on their own and felt the need to drag the captain (I presume that he had the four stripes on his shoulders at least) out of the cockpit to give you a telling off! Okay I know technically the PIC is responsible for the aircraft and everyone on it, but I always thought that they’re only brought out of the cockpit to handle unruly passengers. Even then that’s usually on the ground. During flight many airlines are reluctant to have the captain deal with an unruly pax because one punch to the head incapacitates said captain. lol I have several questions about the details of that incident.
Yea… it was a bit strange. I wonder if they wanted his “authority”? I promise I’m not a threatening person lol! 😂 I’d be curious how it played out from their perspective
Angola became Independent from Portugal in 15/01/1975 and not in 1973 as you mention. Fun fact: Taag was banned to fly to Europe from 2007 until 2010,and you wonder why?!!!! Remember the broken window that you mention. What is the problem with a Crack Window on a Comercial Boeing 777 when the other 323 Windows are ok. My friend, that's how Angola works. Unfortunably for their poor people.
I have never found any lie-flat seat comfortable in first or business. The ones with the dedicated beds might be good, but I have never had that experience.
i would be grumpy to see such decay in cabin even in economy class just think,if they could not upholster seats, how is with meaintainance of avionics? i didn't see such beaten interior even in Indonesia which is known for shady companies with one plane
Do not be afraid, Taag follows the acceptable maintenance standards, Taag has the certification IOSA, it is a safe airliner, they have fought hard at least to guarantee safe trip for its passengers.
Yeah... they don't deserve to sell 'First Class' if that's the hard/soft product they're offering. Screams lack of maintenance and care.
Totally agree. The future shows a better hard product, but the soft product will be up to management

The signature Chucks continue to live on 😊
They’re a vibe 😍
Chucks never really die, they just get more character 🤣
It's wild to see that huge 777 landed in the relatively tiny Porto airport
So retro! Like going back to 1980s😂
Kinda was lol! Except that it’s still from this century….
Good on you for giving TAAG a try Patrick! Fascinating review of an airline I'm not looking to fly anytime soon🤣
Ha! Love it! Thanks homie!
Never had the pleasure of flying said airline but I have had the pleasure of seeing their aircraft out of the window of my planes at Lisbon and Johanesburg.Pretty hard to get a visa for Angola but I suppose as a transit passenger you don't need to worry about that.
Interesting. Their eVisa process was super easy for me. Then on arrival, you just have to take a picture and make the payment in cash for the visa
Obrigada pelo vídeo.❤️🔥
TAAG is an adventure, actually, last year, a TAAG plane disobeyed Guarulhos' ATC command and almost caused a collision with a GOL plane
Damn… that’s wild
Taag relies on state subsidized fuel to keep prices low, I think their strategy is continuing to be a low cost flagship of sorts. I think it's crazy, but some Brazilians and Portuguese consider a layover in Luanda on their way between those countries to save a few bucks.
It’s not a horrible idea. Still needs a renovation, but the ideas for the future are exciting
@@PatrickSheaAviation yep, new airport, new 787 Dreamlimers on their way, TAAG is definitely leveling up their game.
Definitely waiting for that new airport! Can’t beat TAAG’s prices… even if there’s some big drawbacks
Wow, they really hate their
premium pax. Now I know where to send my enemies to...😂
🤣🤣🤷♂️🤷♂️
I'm always so intrigued by these lesser known airlines, what a mess of a flight and the boarding process! I'm still a bit gobsmacked they had you hang around for so long instead of boarding first. I assume the newer planes are really nice, though.
Yea…. I have some hope for their new planes, and hopefully the new airport
How many hours did you sleep and did you sleep well on the plane? I hope your sleep is good.
A few hours. It was sweaty in there…
I see.
A Second Cup that far form Canada.....that's awesome
What aircraft do you fly
Thanks man! I appreciate it
whats the difference between First and Business Class on TAAG?
This is the first class. The business class is a 2-3-2 or 2-4-2 setup. I haven’t flown it so I don’t know what the service is like
@@PatrickSheaAviation , i think you 'would have better experience on business class than on the first one, or no, i just think so.
@@PatrickSheaAviation i usually fly Business class (not enough money to F) and I still do a sneak peak to Premium Eco and Eco
You also could transfer to Air France
Fair enough. That is an option from Luanda
Funny how I just saw this plane earlier today flying out of Porto
Awesome! Maybe it was me 🤷♂️
It’s funny, I left a negative comment on this video, for some reason, after watching another video regarding how bad were most African airlines, I disagree with that and left that comment on your video, I apologize, obviously deleted the comment after I realized my mistake. Sorry. This is a great video and i think it is Ok to give a try this airline and another one too, leaving a honest review definitely help the airline to correct their weaknesses and become a better competitor with other better airlines. I also subscribed to your channel.
Good stuff man. Thank homie!
Why were you asked to stop filming in the lounge?
Who knows… the lady just came up, put her hand in front of my camera, and shook her head at me 🤷♂️
@@PatrickSheaAviation I have had several airline and airport staff who said I should not film.
I really like TAAG Angola’s livery design tbh. Nice video!
It is kinda timeless I guess. Not too bad. Thanks
You sounded so disappointed that there was no lotion in the lavatory. So whiny! Amazing the cabin crew was able to put up with you!
Damn man. And who has to put up with you?
When the authorities of Angola open the new international airport in Luanda? The old or current its very ugly!!
They definitely need that new terminal. Unfortunately there’s been a lot of delays with it so we don’t really know when it will open
Hi there! Please do South African Airways (SAA) next.
I did check them out last year, there’s a video on it on my channel. I may get back soon, but I don’t have any plans for it at the moment
@PatrickSheaAviation Good staff. But I just wanted to make you aware that they too fly to Sao Paulo from both Johannesburg and Cape Town since mid-October 2023. And soon, they are going to reintroduce their Johannesburg to Perth flights.
Do a video on Imelda Marcos Airways.
That’s an obscure one for sure
22:11 You complain about the seat being dirty, but yourself laying on it with your shoes on… You get what you do to others
But it’s normal to have your shoes on on airplanes… and unless people have been standing on the armrests, headrests, and table, I’m not sure you’ve got a case bro 🤷♂️
@@PatrickSheaAviation it’s ok to have your shoes on airplane, but it’s not ok to have it on your seat… do you put your shoes on your sofa at home?
i'm confused,is this business or first class, because there's some difrence,if it is business it's just ok ,be honest with you i like this old seats better than the ones they're using nowadays, this class should be exemplar clean ,,and seems like it's a bit used and not to clean, have a nice flight!
This is first class. They do have a business class cabin behind this, but I haven’t heard great things about it
Loving the video so far Pat! I also recommend you flying Stuttgart to Dubai on Eurowings’ a320neo with no ife!
Think I would pass on this airline.
@@patriciafuchs5970 a German airline hah!
Appreciate the objective review minus the hijinks and fake drama of some of the other youtubers, which just makes them appear spoiled and petulant.
Thanks man!
Yea… it’s tough. At least renovations are already in the works so hopefully these seats aren’t around for too much longer
Good points. Thanks man!
Brooo , you got took 😅. You paid for “first class “ but ended up with premium economy 😂.
They didn’t want you filming because they’re embarrassed of their product!!
lol fair point 🤣
You traveled on the day that I arrived at Luanda lol😂😂
Dang man… just missed you I guess 🤷♂️
sweet vid
You just hope the non-seat critical equipmente is well maintained and it doesn’t plunge in the middle of the Atlantic.
Yea I hear ya, although I’ve got at least *some* confidence in it considering they had to revamp things to get their permission back for EU airspace
Thx for the report, was always curious how those crappy african airlines operate but I will never fly with them
I mean to be fair the new product and airport should be much better 🤷♂️
That "First Class" are worse than most "Business Class", especially those seats are old.
Totally agree. The new renovated first class is much needed for sure
01:17 In 1973, Angola was still Portugal. Year of Independence: 1974
Actually the date that marks Angola’s independence from Portugal is the 11th of November, not the 4th of February that is concerned with an uprising that took place in 1961 that then led to the colonial war fought between the Portuguese army and the Angolan forces that wanted their country to become an independent nation ✌️
Oh my dream holiday to Angola! After Syria and north Korea.
Boston would make sense - great for Northeast connections, large Portuguese-related population in the area
Totally! Although not as good connections as JFK/IAH/ATL unfortunately. That would be my only concern with Boston
South African Airways also flys to Guarulhos
Thats a true reviewer there 👌 better than Josh
6:18 lol you had a Cuca??💀
It is the best Angolan beer, i don't drink beer, but lot of people like it even foreigners .
Given Angola's robust economy, the country could support a flag carrier provided that it offers a competitive product.
Looking south to South Africa:
Out of all of it, I’m struggling to wrap my brain around the concept of two cabin crew firstly, having a problem with the sole first class passenger moving seats-particularly given that several things on the seat he had weren’t working or stopped working…
And secondly these two cabin crew, despite all of the extensive “people skills” training they received, felt unable to deal with you on their own and felt the need to drag the captain (I presume that he had the four stripes on his shoulders at least) out of the cockpit to give you a telling off!
😂 I’d be curious how it played out from their perspective
that's only the plastic cover on the window,.... you alerted the crew for that? lol
When you say "First Class" you mean "biz class", right ? Am a bit confused, mate :)
Nah man. This is first class and their business class is behind it
oh man !!! If that's their 1st class, i wonder what their eco class is 🤐🤐🤐@@PatrickSheaAviation
TAAG First is usually scandalous cheap. Cheaper than most business classes. So it’s a really good deal.
I will give you that. But it’s double the cost of their business class, and I wouldn’t say that it’s twice as good as that
@@PatrickSheaAviation Compared to other airlines. I mean cheaper than Qatar Business Class for example. And one third of the Lufthansa one. Generally.
They should come to Newark we have lot's of Africans in New Jersey
There’s a shot at that. Although it would realistically be JFK if anything so they can draw the tourism crowd as well
@@PatrickSheaAviation I hear you but Newark is good for international traffic
I have never found any lie-flat seat comfortable in first or business. The ones with the dedicated beds might be good, but I have never had that experience.
Interesting. Those separate beds are great but rare for sure
Can u visit Bermuda from New York? I Believe the airline is called Bermuda airline or something like that
I heard about that one! I would love to try it out soon!
@@PatrickSheaAviation great plus I’ve never been on it so it’ll be a great thing for me to see
It suprises me that 15 years ago a flew Taag and nothing changed. Shame…
Yea…. That’s wild
Is it a first class?
What about economic classe?
Yee. This is first class, then business class behind that, then economy class behind that. Who knows what that experience was like 🤷♂️
i would be grumpy to see such decay in cabin even in economy class
just think,if they could not upholster seats, how is with meaintainance of avionics?
i didn't see such beaten interior even in Indonesia which is known for shady companies with one plane
Do not be afraid, Taag follows the acceptable maintenance standards, Taag has the certification IOSA, it is a safe airliner, they have fought hard at least to guarantee safe trip for its passengers.
I hear ya, but I do have at least *some* confidence considering they had to put in significant work to get their EU airspace permission back
