13:25 This is wrong. The flying chefs were not introduced last year - they returned(!) in summer 2023 after they have been paused during COVID. If I'm not mistaken the flying chefs were introduced in 2011 at Austrian.
Very nice flight with very good catering provided by Do&Co, something Lufthansa doesn’t even offer their First Class guests, they replaced the Do&Co catering in their Flagship First Class Terminal in Frankfurt by Käfer catering which is not so good.
Flown Austrian both within Europe and most recently transatlantic. Took a vacation to Europe a few months back traversing through the Netherlands (not calling it Holland), Belgium and France. I flew out of Paris back home to Chicago via Vienna and I’m glad I did. Everyone on the first flight was also transiting through Vienna and the flight was quite nice. Great hard and soft product and made it back home safe and sound. 10/10 would fly again.
Great video. I especially appreciate the history of the airline. I first flew Austrian in 1967 from Vienna to Warsaw and have been a devoted fan since. Love the catering, especially out of Vienna!
Hello Patrick. Great video. It seems there is a misconception about the Chef on Austrian. They did not start in 2023. It startet in 1996 with Lauda Air, and was only suspended due to Covid. As far as i know they where the very first ones with a Chef on board.
Nice excellent review! I used to like the 767’s a lot until the 777’s came about and developed a true life long love for the triple 7’s. I truly enjoy your history behind the airlines you are flying on / and processes throughout the airport and updates on the countries airport your flying out of.
I’ve just done a Europe trip US-Europe in LH Business(non-Allegris, as a potential farewell to its B748) and LX Business on the way back. Together with your experiences here I felt any subsidiary airlines of Lufthansa group has better soft product than LH itself at this point. This being said I will give Allegris a try soon.. hopefully it will refresh the Business cabin experiences for LH.
Do you mean hard product because the LH soft product is clearly better than LX (very inconsistent, biz food can be absolutely vile and service tends to be quite fuzzy around the edges)? OS is definitely ahead but on a day flight I would definitely chose LH over LX
Looks like a decent flight. The seat looks the same as the one American had on their 767s. I last flew on one in Domestic First from JFK to MIA 8 years ago.
Hi Patrick - next time you get to fly on Austrian or eat in better restaurants in Austria, Hungary and in Slovakia - you may find small clips useful if you wish to fix your napkin to the neckline of your sweatshirt or a jumper, or on a tie if travelling wearing a suit. That way all of your clothing is safely protected from staines caused by spillages or food dropplets. Great video as ever. Happy flying onwards and upwards 👍
In my opinion, Austrian Airlines is one of the best European airlines. Their fleet is rather small, which is due to the weak market situation in Vienna. Austrian will soon only operate the 787 on long haul, E195 and A320F on short haul. They are in the process of phasing out all the old 767 and 777.
The problem with Austria are the terrible old planes with super outdated seats (like much of Lufthansa group). Sure, Business is fine, but in economy you got no power, no wifi, and food is not great. Also for the lounge, most Austrian flights leave from Terminal 3, there's a much bigger lounge there. I think because of the construction some of the 767 and 787 flights starts from D gates.
19:53 why is brussels airlines not a full service carrier like the other 3? My experiences in their business and economy cabins have both been top notch? I know their route network is less premium but they dominate in Africa. They give nice chocolate boxes at the end of their flights.
I appreciate that you give the general history of the airline that you are reviewing. I remember flying Austrian about ten years ago from Washington Dulles to Vienna. It was an evening departure and the chef came around before take-off to ask us if we would like eggs for breakfast and how would we like them prepared. He actually cooked them in the galley in the morning. I was totally impressed and thought what a great idea. My question for you is: is your full-time job in the aviation or the hospitality/travel industry? (or are you lucky enough to be a "trust fund baby"?) 🤣
When having the choice of flying BC either with Austrian or Lufthansa it will always be Austrian. Food and service is unparalleled. Looking forward to my flight on the 787 to Washington next week.... At Schwechat airport you can't really compare the old D gates with the facilities at the newer Terminal 3. Leaving from the old gates is a travel back in time as well. You nicely summarized Austrian's history with Lufthansa of the last 20 years: “nationalize losses and privatize profits”
Nice review, hopefully you had time to enjoy Christmas Markets. Questions for end of year: a) Believe you said you have an FT job, so how do you make the time; b) How much time you plan for when you travel to do these videos. Not a question, but would be good to have "after flight" video getting to hotel, hotel, etc.
Austrian’s entertainment system looks exactly like the Lufthansa’s on their A340s, which I am flying on now, as I am watching your video. Corporate sharing, I guess.
Please what's was your favourite place to visit? What your favourite plane food? What was your favourite lounge food, what was your favourite airport? What was your favourite flight ever?
Interesting to know that process airlines falls under low cost for the group. Should be said, however, did they keep some quite unique legacy routes with the Africa due to their colonial past. Sometimes they are the only airline in the group to fly there. For example, to Freetown in Sierra Leone.
They have two now since earlier this year. One is operating NYC, the other one did Chicago until November and is now doing Washington. More to come next year.
How about this question for your Year End Video Patrick For your next videos next year when you fly abroad please leave the US on that airline rather that flying back to the US with that airline I know it a pet peeve of mines
Patrick, please try AF208 if you're planning to visit SEA. I'd love to see the experience of the one direct EU Flight to Manila, it's also operating in and out of Terminal 3 of NAIA. Maybe itll be a redemption for our airport as New Manila Intl is still underway 😂
3x Vienna - Berlin in the A320/321. Sat on thin garden chairs. The maximum service each time was a glass of water!!! There will definitely not be another flight with Austrian Airlines.
Don't understand when an airline has a Chef. The Chef doesn't cook onboard the aircraft as all food cooked and cold sandwiches are premade from airport catering companies. So what does this chef do place the food items on their plates?
Why ? The product sucks, 2-3-2 in business, don't get me wrong, I love the Queen, i've been lucky enough to spend way to much time in every 747 except the -8, which I will be fixing next year.
That meal did not impress. The menu offers a choice of Lettuce (could hardly believe they offered 'Lettuce' as a course rather than some sort of more complete salad) OR Smoked Salmon, and Soup listed as a separate course (no OR on the menu) but it appears that the crew put all 3 items on the trolley therefore making the soup an OR item rather than a separate course as the menu would imply. Then the second service. A drink as one of the courses(!) followed by a choice of pork or pork. (The type of sausage is not specified - not good - but almost certainly pork and the salad contained ham). The type of meat in the sausage should have been stated and there should not have been the same type of meat for both of the choices.
Yeah it's a bummer that Austrian doesn't fly to San Francisco, only Los Angeles, that's so weird, it flies seasonally. Same for Finair, Latam and Polish airlines, they don't fly to San Francisco, only Los Angeles, so weird, but yearly.
I think you solved a mystery for me: Lufthansa were/are buying just about every plane type out there, Airbus and Boeing. Lufthansa are centrally buying the planes then parcelling them out to all the different airlines in the group as befits the specific airline mission.
As always, a great video Patrick and lots of very informative narration. Thank you. One small thing..... Junkers is pronounced yoon kers in German, I think........
I find it a bit amusing that a country with 31m non EU tourists and heaps to see and to do all year around cannot sustain an airline larger in size. TAP captures by far more non EU travellers to Portugal with fewer non EU passenger stats 25m) than Austrian to Austria and it is not even as popular in winter months as Austria. I think, being in LH group actually hurts Austrian in a long run, not helps.
I wonder, would they offer vegan/ vegetarian and non alcoholic options that don’t sacrifice in quality, compared to their meaty and alcoholic counterparts?
Hi Patrick, great video, 767s, take me back. I have a request, can you fly into Khasab airport (top of Mussandam Penninsula just 30 miles from Iran - but you're still in Oman), flights are just from Muscat, it's a short flight but the departure and arrival views are amazing. Also no-one has covered it on YT that I can see).
LOT has never been owned by Lufthansa. They joined the Star Alliance in 2003 and are thus a partner of Lufthansa but have always been owned by the Polish State.
As an austrian its so sad the corrupt politicans sell our national airline Now we are a part from Lufthansa which is really not that great !! our airplanes are old the cabins are so so .. ,and the destinations are little bit boring because our shit corrupt politics
13:25 This is wrong. The flying chefs were not introduced last year - they returned(!) in summer 2023 after they have been paused during COVID. If I'm not mistaken the flying chefs were introduced in 2011 at Austrian.
Lauda Air introduced the flying chefs 1996…
The clip is to hold your napkin to your shirt...
SAS Business First used to have them as well in the eighties.
Some people are not as refined as you and I 😂😂😂😂
Very nice flight with very good catering provided by Do&Co, something Lufthansa doesn’t even offer their First Class guests, they replaced the Do&Co catering in their Flagship First Class Terminal in Frankfurt by Käfer catering which is not so good.
Nein aua hat keine erste klasse mehr. Damals waren die grossartig
@ hat niemand behauptet, es ging um Lufthansa.
Käfer really blows, at this point the FCL at MUC T2K beats the whole damn FCT at FRA
Flown Austrian both within Europe and most recently transatlantic. Took a vacation to Europe a few months back traversing through the Netherlands (not calling it Holland), Belgium and France. Great hard and soft product and made it back home safe and sound. 10/10 would fly again.
Great review - as always. But the chef onboard Austrian has been around for 10+ years. It was brought back after covid in April 2023.
Great video. I especially appreciate the history of the airline. I first flew Austrian in 1967 from Vienna to Warsaw and have been a devoted fan since. Love the catering, especially out of Vienna!
i love the767. it is my favorite transatlantic ride.
Junkers is pronounced yoon kers in German, I think
Its Over 20 Years Since A Experience B767.Great Video And Info

100%. Even as an Australian I knew that as I well remember the advertising by Lauda.
I remember the chef on lauda air in 1989 in business from Sydney to Vienna via??
Nice excellent review! I used to like the 767’s a lot until the 777’s came about and developed a true life long love for the triple 7’s. I truly enjoy your history behind the airlines you are flying on / and processes throughout the airport and updates on the countries airport your flying out of.
10:50 am to 2:35 pm isn't the best for your internal clock. Nice to see the 767 while we still can
✅Thanks Patrick. 7:02 Loving the blue sneakers - hide the dirt better than the white😁
Thanks for the info + video!
Try to work on that pronunciation of Junkers...says the guy from Munich.
Also "Viss-count" - ?? Surprising error for someone with a good aviation knowledge.
Yunkers

Correct..BrusselsAirlines is a full...there were plans to put them under EW...but did not happen.
I appreciate that you give the general history of the airline that you are reviewing. I remember flying Austrian about ten years ago from Washington Dulles to Vienna. They used to be great when they offered a first class cabin. Only average. Look forward to air france new first class in march 2025

Junkers is pronounced like Yoonkers
Great review. I am a fan of Austrian. FYI, the chef was reintroduced last year. This existed pre-COVID.
‘Couldn’t understand’. Don’t the crew speak English?
They do. There's also written menu.
Please what's was your favourite place to visit? What your favourite plane food? What was your favourite lounge food, what was your favourite airport? What was your favourite flight ever?
Thank you Patrick and happy holiday.
Are you learning Spanish at the moment? I thought about changing my phone over to force me to learn, but I’ve been too scared 😂
Interesting to know that process airlines falls under low cost for the group. Should be said, however, did they keep some quite unique legacy routes with the Africa due to their colonial past. Sometimes they are the only airline in the group to fly there. For example, to Freetown in Sierra Leone.
Great video! thanks for sharing. Didn't§ know that OS has 787
They have two now since earlier this year. One is operating NYC, the other one did Chicago until November and is now doing Washington. More to come next year.
The little clip is meant to clip your napkin to your shirt.
“Junkers” That made me 😂 per the mispronunciation. It’s pronounced…”unkers”.
Also, the s is silent in "viscount." vI-count.
How about this question for your end of year video, Are you going to fly to the Caribbean from the US or Europe anytime next year, and where?
How about this question for your Year End Video Patrick For your next videos next year when you fly abroad please leave the US on that airline rather that flying back to the US with that airline I know it a pet peeve of mines

Hi Patrick How Are You I Have A Request Could You Fly On Lufthansa Lh456 From Frankfurt To Los Angeles 747-400
Why ? The product sucks, 2-3-2 in business, don't get me wrong, I love the Queen, i've been lucky enough to spend way to much time in every 747 except the -8, which I will be fixing next year.
My wife flew that route with my daughter end of October and for next time I know I won’t book them this crap again
How long does Austrian plan to keep their 767s?
They will be removed end of 2025 after phasing in of another three 787s.
What was your favourite city you visited in 2024? Why?
Junkers, pronounced 'younkers' and Viscount pronounced 'vi-count'. ;-)

Austrian & Lufthansa, Ryan Air, Wizzair & Lauda all the carriers

What is it with airlines forcing the window shades or blinds shut so that fare paying passengers are forced to travel in sensory deprived misery?!
in terms of profitability lufthansa is terrible, swiss a pearl!
Hi Patrick, great video, 767s, take me back. I have a request, can you fly into Khasab airport (top of Mussandam Penninsula just 30 miles from Iran - but you're still in Oman), flights are just from Muscat, it's a short flight but the departure and arrival views are amazing. In 2011 when I flew LOT, they were part of Lufthansa Group.
LOT has never been owned by Lufthansa. They joined the Star Alliance in 2003 and are thus a partner of Lufthansa but have always been owned by the Polish State.
@@Michael-ru3rt They were part of "Miles & More."
European business lounges are far superior to what's on offer in the usa
9:09 all-stars 😍
Surprised you didn’t seek out their new 787s! 767s are still nice though :)
He said those aircraft were being deployed on much more expensive flights
As usual, Wikipedia is inaccurate hence your video information is also.
That's one of the Euro airlines that I have tried. BTW are you still teaching?
If you would have flown to EWR, you would have experienced the 787!
Actually you are not allowed here to film strangers and post them in a video.
You might want to learn how to pronounce Viscount. It sounds like: vi·kownt. No 'S'
Omg the talking never stops, hence the volume is off and fast forward to what I want to see
Austrian is not the strongest in Lufthansa group. That is either Lufthansa or swiss
Rather not since they don't have a first class and the lounges are a joke
As an austrian its so sad the corrupt politicans sell our national airline
Now we are a part from
Lufthansa which is really not that great !! our airplanes are old the cabins are so so .. ,and the destinations are little bit boring because our shit corrupt politics
"all y'all"?? really..
You might want to think about saving a bit of money on your flights and get a manicure instead. It's definitely not nice to look at.
Junkers is pronounced, 'younkers', I found your long history lesson rather boring...sorry...
Ancient, thin and dry air, loud, clunky 767s. UGH.
Austrian desperately need 787
They do have 2 already and more to come in 2025
Viscount is pronounced Veyecount and Tyrolean Tirolean. Perhaps some research would be in order.
It’s not a TV, its a video monitor. Does it show any broadcast television? No it doesn’t, therefore it is not a tv.
Stop being churlish.
Austrian are one of the airlines I actively look to avoid using, flown them a few times and each time the very best they have done was underwhelming
