Oh God, that was a fantastic trip report. You're right, 7 hours is not enough to fully appreciate the residence, which is the best 1st class in the sky to my opinion 😊
Dayum. 4100 including the residence? I would say all in all that is a fantastic price. Ok so the flight is only 7 hours so not the longest where you actually "need" the bedroom but still with your own lavatory , bedroom and a comfy livingroom on a plane is quite insane for the price. Thanks alot for showing us everything in this flight.
Totally agree ~4000 is a steal for this seat, even with the downgrade of service from the pre Covid days. I do wish I was able to enjoy it for a bit longer, but maybe if they do actually bring it back to the western hemisphere
Wow cool vlog! That residence in the sky is absolutely amazing. It’s unbelievable that you have 3 rooms and that huge bed plus a private lounge on the ground, and for only $4,200 !!
I’ve been through the new terminal (Terminal A, it’s called, for some reason) in December and will go back through in a few days, with business lounge access (flying Etihad business back from Bangkok to Oslo). It’s a very nice new terminal. Comfortable, bright and has everything I like about airports - high ceilings, large windows, open spaces. Not so many shops yet but they’ll come slowly in the coming months I’m sure. The residence looks wonderful. Glad to see you enjoyed it!
Great video, I applaud you for taking the time to fly on all these planes and bring us great trip reports. I hope to one day go on this plane/seat and maybe a longer flight. Again great job and thanks for all your hard work.
Another great review. Loved the details of your videos. I have flown the Apartments before COVID from LHR-AUH-BOM, and this brought back good memories. But being able to try the Residence is next level! Glad you got to experience it!
Honestly, I think I Patrick is the most comprehensive flight reviewer on UA-cam! Every detail covered... Which is what we want to see if any of us ever want to book, or dream of booking such flights
You didn't fasten your seatbelt while you were in bed, you fastened your BED-belt 😀 Amazing stuff as always. One can only dream about experiencing this uber-luxury. Amazing content, the secret room, the plane, the service and attention to detail, just incredible. Great job!
The best part of this video tour is your commentary. I really enjoyed your honesty, past experiences, and open mindedness to whatever comes nest. This is the way Vlogs need to be done. One small request for future videos: Every f***g video of a take off and landing is out the window. If you have an opportunity to showcase a plane taking off/landing video via the landing gear or tail cam -- why not? Enjoyed every second of your video and thank you for the time taken to film, edit, and post for all of us to enjoy.
I’ve always wondered if the tail cams would give better takeoff views. I felt like out the window was a bit more authentic, but I’d be open to trying it out in a future video! Thanks man!!

What an experience!!! Being in New York I would love that option from JFK to Sao Paulo or JFK to Honolulu. Longer haul would make all that opulence more worth it to me. 👍👍👍
Totally! They are bringing it back to New York. So if you’re going to/through the Middle East and have an extra $10k, you can spend some good time onboard!
What an amazing place in the sky! I can't even imagine how freaking cool this must have been. Thanks for sharing it with us. I bet the ME emirs and such are why these airlines really go wild with these opportunities, if they aren't flying privately I guess! Pretty amazing for the $4k for this, but hey, what an experience!!!
Totally! I would assume that's why they lowered the amount of service and cost, since the people that could afford it would just charter a jet, but now it means that a few more people are able to experience it!
@@PatrickSheaAviation Hoping one day I can make it though I have zero desire to go to DXB or AUH! Maybe as a layover? Agreed...WOW...that was a lot of fun to watch and a good reminder for North American based carriers to do more to excel in service, spaces, amenities, food and beverages. Regrettably, the airlines based in the Emirates are not aligned with One World, SkyTeam or Star Alliance. Your narration is great and I appreciate you add some humour now and again...Thanks Patrick!
Thanks! Honestly the model of these cabins don’t translate as well to the north american carriers, just because of the route structure and mission being so different. I would like to see Etihad and Emirates join an alliance, and not just interline partners. Maybe one day
North American carriers, for the most part, could care less if you even survive your flight. There is no possible way any of them would EVER change their mindset and corporate plan from ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM profits to having even a tiny concern about customer service. To them, fliers a basically the same as Amazon packages.
I used to fly every other year to uk from SA. My best flight was Ethihad, my last trip in 2016. Brilliant. A380. Top tourist upgraded . Real food, leather seats, metal fighting irons, so good. I told steward I was ex BA in the good old days and after pax left he gave me a guided tour of upstairs. Brill crew, a wonderful experience.
about the coffee, if i understand correctly there was the liquid in the cup and at the bottom of it there was something lke mud? that's how that coffee is(you dont drink the mud haha). We have it also in Greece.
I've flown in many planes from DC3, Britannia, Comet, VC10, 727, 737 most Airbuses and the Embraer and a few I've missed. (Some military). But of all the planes the A380 is the best by far. So many wanted to write it off prematurely, so I'm glad this wonderful plane is back in service.
I Am Speechless, I Am 65 And My Studio In San Diego Is Not Much Bigger. Not Complaining!! The Plane Is Beautiful And The Food As Always Looked Delicious. I Agree The Lounge Looked Like It Had Seen Better Days. Happy Travels!! ✈️ Love Your Channel.
Wow! Great video. We recently flew from Perth to Heathrow with Qatar. It was very good, but when we arrived at Heathrow it was terrible. Transfer from T4 to T5 took an hour. Mostly because nobody knew what was going on.
Patrick, thank you for taking us along on your trip. I think if I, was getting waited on like that. I wouldn’t want to get off the plane. Truly amazing experience.
Great review. Your self effacing humour is refreshing. And I thought Singapore's suites were extravagant -- not even close to The Residence. And.... NordVPN rocks. Glad you've hooked up with them for some sponsorship.
Excellent video, and one of my favorite bucket list items: The Residence. You gained a new follower, and I love your narrating. Your voice made the video much more enjoyable.
Great review Patrick, an amazing flight. I got the impression you had cabin fever in that first lounge it was kind of strange, I think I would have preferred a first class or business lounge where you could at least talk to people if you wanted to. The residence is amazing but so over the top. I think it's a bit of an experiment that isn't going to age well as it's too expensive especially for a mid haul flight. But you never know it is still cheaper than a private jet but offers the same sort of service.
It’s definitely an interesting middle ground between first class and a private jet. They’ve brought it back to New York and sounds like Toronto, Bangkok, or Sydney are in potential plans. For long haul routes it seems to make much more sense… even if it is way out of my price range 🫠
lol. I believe Turkish coffee is unfiltered so the "powder" was coffee grinds. Definitely part of the experience. A friend of mine from middle east when I asked about filters, he said "that's what teeth are for."
Amazing, truly amazing! Unfortunately, I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy that service but at least, I have you to show us the way....thanks for all your hard work....it was a pleasure!
4,200 USD for this trip seems to be a really good deal, according to other information on the internets, round-trips in The Residence usually go for 20k-30k USD.
Oh yea it can definitely be expensive. I spent a ton of time plugging in different dates and destinations. I only got it that cheap because I booked it starting in Kuala Lumpur. If I had only booked the segment from Abu Dhabi to London alone it would have been about $8k
I was really surprised that it cost only $4,200, which was such a great deal. Was thinking it might cost at least over $10K! Thanks so much for sharing the experience, all the lounge and inflight details and mosty importantly the cost. Fantastic video and Great Job 🙏
It definitely can cost $10k depending on how you book. If you only book Abu Dhabi to London or JFK, it’s crazy expensive. The trick is to be super flexible with dates, and book it as a connecting journey. I started in Kuala Lumpur for example
$4200 for that is honestly so good. Hopefully they add a route to Dubai. Honestly emirates and etihad just absolutely destroy US Airlines in terms of basically everything with flights. They should take notes.
It took some work to find that price but was definitely worth it after saving up. As for US airlines, as with most North American and European carriers, they just don’t have the same market so investing the money in ways like Etihad and Emirates would just end up crippling them. Different strategies, but US carriers have been definitely improving since Covid
That's like Emirates and Singapore first class had a baby lol you sure got a steal under 5k for such an amazing experience. I can definitely understand that being in the 5 digits price tag. That lounge and escort access definitely says VVIP. Thanks for sharing
Image being in the class before the resident and you wake up from a nap and you randomly hear clapping but you don’t see the flight attendants or other passengers clapping their hands and the clapping is on going
I guess, but when I flew emirates to sfo I had ~17 hours on board so I had plenty of time to enjoy it all and sleep for 8-9 hours. I’d take that in a heartbeat!
Fantastic review the flight. Emirates might win an award for the most beautiful plate ware - the gold rimmed tea saucers were something special. Guinness Book of World Records for being the first person to do push-ups on the Residence Lounge floor? 😀
That Turkish coffee with all the powder at the bottom is totally authentic. It's how they make it. Once served it should not be stirred. Any sweetener is added whilst making the coffee so they would ask you if you want it sweet, medium or without sugar. Turkish coffee should be drunk whilst sipping plain water. Once you reach the dense powder at the bottom of the coffee cup, stop drinking, the powdery part should not be consumed.
4200 is quite cheap for The Residence. It’s basically three first class seats (not to mention the privacy and experience - being able to choose first or last to board as you’re the only residence seat on the flight) so you’re looking at 1400 per first class seat basically. Can’t see how it’s very economically rewarding for the airline (compared to regular business or first class) especially with the staffing required for the additional attention like three staff escorting you to your boarding. Doubt it will remain at 4200 for long and likely back to the 10k-30k price tag at least. Looks like you got a great deal. Thanks for sharing your experience. Interesting to watch. Would be a nice experience but don’t see myself flying on a middle eastern airline conveniently.
Well they have significantly reduced the amount of extra features that each residence passenger has so it is cheaper. Also, if you book only AUB-LHR (not connecting from KUL), it’s closer to $7-8000
I came home from my Christmas vacation in First Class. But this flight you had makes my experience look like coach in comparison due to everything you got. Though I still thought it was the best flight I ever took.
Got an amazing deal. Taking a shower during flight crazy. Like the pres on Air Force 1. Laughed last couple of minutes,, back to reality, in economy in the middle, with bad snacks lol.
Great video. With regards to Etihad and it’s place among peers, I think, we will agree that Residence passengers do not make or break the airline, so we go level down to business and economy, Etihad is not quite in the same league as Emirates or Qatar, but they are not as expensive, generally. Etihad will do better when/if they join an alliance, possibly Sky.
I agree, although this was my first time flying them so I will have to fly their economy class. That being said, from an economical standpoint at least, the premium cabins are the most important to the company
Thank you for sharing your world travels. It most likely will be the only way I see some places. I enjoy your vids for the content as they provide tons of information.
I heard the same rumor about Toronto while I was flying in First Apartments recently. Which is... Surprising? Would think there's more premium demand to a place like JFK.
Patrick, you're an outstanding creator and narrator, very impressed with your detailed descriptive free-flowing video! Is this what your degree is in? I look forward to future videos!

I was so impressed with yours, I sent it to him, knowing he would appreciate the work you put into your pieces!
I didn't know a bathroom counts as a "real" room. Thats cool... so from now on i have a 6 room apartment and i always travel in a 2 room apartment flight
We have all seen The Residence vlogs. This is the first one that was described AFTER the flight. It really took away from the video. Film it ‘live’ to get more views. Still a great video.
thanks for your reviews. wow, truly shocking to see all the bugs crawling around at 11:11. these are some nasty creatures, potentially carrying diseases and parasites. awful.
I will admit it’s a great deal for what you’re getting! Not much more than most people would pay for business class on the same routes from SE Asia to Europe
I know the residence used to come with your own private Butler at the airport and on the plane itself and your own private chef. I'm guessing post covid they must have got rid of those things but it is still a very awesome product
The lounge still has someone tending to you, but onboard you’re just another first class passenger, just with a paid seat upgrade. Personally, I’m totally fine with it
As an architect I can only imagine the number of people, 3d computer time and vender presentations required to design and then specify the actual construction of this suite!
Fair enough. But tbh business class is totally fine anyway. I feel like it’s just an unnecessary middle ground. A very fun, but unnecessary middle ground
13 hours from JFK to Dubai. I absolutely must be on the A380 and I absolutely must be in business class. It's so hard to fight against the advertising, but maybe the next time I head to the Middle East or Africa (Tanzania possibly), I'll try Etihad over Emirates. But Emirates' advertising has a grip on me.
I recently flew Emirates Business Class from NYC to Dubai to Maldives roundtrip. As far as the MENUS go, I'm more than satisfied chugging down MOET and having a Red or White Wine with lunch and dinner. I'll probably never order a cheese board again as I wasted 30% of it. Every single one of those "Indian/Arab entrees is about a $10 value.

Thanks! Yea I am glad I got to try it, although it’s definitely a reduction from what it was pre-Covid
@@PatrickSheaAviationeven with all I just saw. Can you tell me an idea of what it was like pre-Covid or at least what others got that you didn’t get?
That was incredible! I would love to get to try the residence. Thank you for sharing!!!
Image being in the class before the resident and you wake up from a nap and you randomly hear clapping but you don’t see the flight attendants or other passengers clapping their hands and the clapping is on going
Patrick that was the experience of a lifetime. So happy for you that you got to put this feather in your cap. Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you!! It was incredible!
omg, 4200 bucks? That's SO doable! And a nice 7 hour flight too! Wouldn't want a super long flight - where you sleep away most of it. haha
I guess, but when I flew emirates to sfo I had ~17 hours on board so I had plenty of time to enjoy it all and sleep for 8-9 hours. I’d take that in a heartbeat!
@@PatrickSheaAviation Wow! Yeah, that's long enough to wake up and enjoy it again. lol
Fantastic review the flight. Emirates might win an award for the most beautiful plate ware - the gold rimmed tea saucers were something special. Guinness Book of World Records for being the first person to do push-ups on the Residence Lounge floor? 😀
Ha! Thanks man!
How could they forget the meals??? How did they compensate you for that?
Another good job Patrick! Enjoyed your review.
Thanks man!
Good to know. Thanks
Though I still thought it was the best flight I ever took.
lol this one did kinda ruin all other first classes forever….
Got an amazing deal.
Taking a shower during flight crazy.
Like the pres on Air Force 1.
Laughed last couple of minutes,, back to reality, in economy in the middle, with bad snacks lol.
Agreed the deal is incredible! Economy sure was humbling though
Wow in 10-20 years the experience will be even better , so that even the longest flying time around the globe won‘t be enough to enjoy …
Patrick, you are killing it with your recent videos! Fantastic job!
Thanks man!!
The Residence looks so royal!!! Thank you for the video 🙏🏽Emirates will always be my favorite airline 😃
Thanks! Emirates definitely is a favorite for plenty of travelers
There can never be a dull moment when you fly this way..Dude are you lucky or are you lucky..thanks for the video😀
Ha totally! Thanks man
Amazing!
The suite is so inviting.
Totally!
I’m with you about the lack of California wines, but I’m actually surprised there were any at all.
Amazing. . unbelievable caring by staff.
Totally! They were great
Thank you for sharing your world travels. It most likely will be the only way I see some places. I enjoy your vids for the content as they provide tons of information.
Thank you! I totally feel fortunate to be able to explore some of these places
I heard the same rumor about Toronto while I was flying in First Apartments recently. Which is... Surprising? Would think there's more premium demand to a place like JFK.
Yea it surprises me as well. Maybe fuel costs 🤷♂️
Very Classy Patrick!!! Nice review!
Thanks!
Patrick, you're an outstanding creator and narrator, very impressed with your detailed descriptive free-flowing video! Is this what your degree is in? I look forward to future videos!
Thanks! It’s *kinda* in this… aviation related at least
Keep up the great work! My nephew is plotting his future steps after another year and a half after high school. He definitely has a creative side, especially when it comes to making videos. I was so impressed with yours, I sent it to him, knowing he would appreciate the work you put into your pieces!
Turkish coffee is amazing and indeed has the coffee grounds IN the cup.
I will soon have the opportunity to fly business class on Emirates. Can't wait.
That’s awesome! I haven’t actually tried their business class before only economy class and then the one first class journey last year
Finally, the Residence review in an excellent way NOT reviewed by Sam Chui. Amazing video, thank you!!
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it
Nicely done video. You made me feel like I was almost there.
Thanks man!
I wonder how good the sound proofing is in the bedroom?
Not for people going to sleep. ☺ great video 2x👍
That was amazing! Great job with the video❤️✈️
Thanks!!
Thanks but filming it live means I can’t get all the voice in there. Not tryna be talking in the middle of the flight
You summed it up nicely as to why people can and do pay for this: privacy really is important to them so they pay the mega bucks to have it.
For sure. If someone has the money, there’s no better way to travel commercially
thanks for your reviews. wow, truly shocking to see all the bugs crawling around at 11:11. these are some nasty creatures, potentially carrying diseases and parasites. awful.
Gross! Who knows what’s underneath that. In a Residence First Class cabin that is totally unacceptable.
$4000 ???
to fly from JFK to Dubai and Maldives roundtrip it cost me $4800 plus traveler's insurance and tax which was slightly more than $5000
16:35 Thai Airways (ex Hong Kong Airlines) A350-900 F-WTAQ >> HS-THV ferried Nov 5 AUH-BKK
OMG! A little over $4,000.00 is a bargain! Most people could afford this same flight.
Personally, I’m totally fine with it
That's pretty damned cool to have 3 escorts. Everyone's wondering: WHO IS THAT GUY?
It’s Patrick of course! 😂
Fascinating.
As an architect I can only imagine the number of people, 3d computer time and vender presentations required to design and then specify the actual construction of this suite!
I’m sure it took a large team a long while to make it happen
$20K isn't outrageous when you consider the alternative is charter jet that would cost over $100K for flights from NYC or Sydney.
Fair enough. But tbh business class is totally fine anyway. I feel like it’s just an unnecessary middle ground. A very fun, but unnecessary middle ground
Cost: $4,200.....says it all
13 hours from JFK to Dubai. I absolutely must be on the A380 and I absolutely must be in business class. It's so hard to fight against the advertising, but maybe the next time I head to the Middle East or Africa (Tanzania possibly), I'll try Etihad over Emirates.
But Emirates' advertising has a grip on me.
Thank you for another amazing video. I just love all the detail and you have a nice voice too 🙂. Looking forward to more amazing videos from you.
Thanks!
What a steal
Seven hours just isn't long enough. Great price though, you did well to save your pennies up for this flight. Thanks Patch for the video.
Totally agree! Thanks man!
Seriously your review is so detailed and well-explained, one of the best I’ve watched. Thanks for sharing your experience!
So cool ✈️ 😎 🧳
Thanks a bunch!
So you're telling me that residence cost 4,200? I don't have that kind of money by any means but it's worth it😮
lol totally! It’s a hell of an experience if the money is there!
So good man. Appreciate the pricing.
Thanks!
