G's trailer remains one of my favorite things to exist ever and I still wish "President of the World" was available in full to listen to somewhere. ARMS also has some pretty cool character trailers, showing off not only what the characters can do but their stages as well. They're light on narrative, but that's not out-of-line with the game itself. The trailers for the DLC characters are a step up from the ones for the characters in the base game, but all are pretty neat.
Glad to hear a take on KOFXV's visuals that isn't "tHIs gAmE loOkS LiKE iT WaS mAdE FoR tHE pS2". It looks neat! Especially considering the amount of characters they have to stuff into every game. I think the backgrounds really make a big difference, they pop a lot more than the ones in XIV. But yeah, as for trailers I tend to repeatedly watch them, but only until I'm able to get my hands on the game/character, where at that point I have more fun looking at them there.
I hadn't actually paid attention to the backgrounds. Maybe I should, because that definitely helps. What immediately comes to mind is the beach one that can be seen in the Joe and Terry trailer. Everything just looks nice and colourful and vibrant.
Great video! Gotta say, covers all the bases here. If I ever make a fighting game, I'll come back to this for inspo on how to make great Character Trailers.
I agree with you for the most part but now that we're getting Tekken 8 trailers, what are your thoughts on them, coz every person on UA-cam is playing the trailer in slow-motion to parse the details ...
