My favourite clip of this game thus far, is when that one streamer drove his car into another player, trying to run him over or to send him flying, but the car itself flipped into the sky like a ragdoll instead. So, the player who got hit by the car was perfectly fine, whilst the car flew, and the driver was hit with the "Death" screen. XD

You might be surprised how out of touch a lot of gamers can be. When I first heard of this late last year, someone in the UA-cam comment section remarked that it was odd for someone like me(an admittedly hardcore gamer - not competitive, just in that it’s my main hobby)would not know about the number one wish listed game on Steam. I found it an odd comment, as I don’t use Steam wish lists for anything. Let alone ideas on what to play. I have my ear to the ground on a lot of things game related, but this one had passed by somehow. There are plenty of people who wouldn’t have known about the game outside of the trailer and not known the controversy.
That in itself is another issue: uninformed consumers. People see a bright, shiny trailer and buy the game based purely on that with no other research done. It’s the same people who buy CoD every year and then turn around and complain it’s the same as last year. I just hope something comes of this that shakes the industry up in a good way for the consumer. Because if this was almost any other product on the market it would be lawsuit city.

as a person who creates assets for devs to use, using them is 100% fine. the problem lies in not at least changing them to look different so that each game that uses them isn't all the same game with the same assets. they are there for filler content and you can either remove them later once you get enough funding or change them to where they don't stand out as just assets you bought. Assets help individual artists and the devs who use them. but when you expect a game to put in as much effort as you have in making the assets and they don't, that's where the game becomes an "Asset flip".

People that call games "asset flips" just because it uses marketplace assets, makes me cringe. 1. not everyone is a 3D artist. 3D modeling is literally a specialization that takes artistic know-how, and not everyone can do it. 2. the marketplace assets literally exist for this reason, and is the EXACT SAME THING as hiring a contract worker to make the assets for you, except these are open to anyone to buy and use, so there's no exclusivity. 3. Assets don't make a game. You can't just buy assets from a marketplace, import them, package the project, and call it a game. Things in Unreal just simply don't work that way. There has to be some sort of coding / development done to make SOMETHING from those assets. Even the biggest "offender" of using assets, Only Up, had blueprints and development done under the hood to make it work the way it did. Even ignoring price. You can tell the difference between a game that is only partially finished but is the product of hard work and talent, and a cobbled together placeholder that was never intended to be anything more than cobbled together placeholder.
Unfinished games sometimes fail, and sometimes become amazing. But I don't think I've ever seen this kind of low-effort placeholder enter Early Access and then later become something worth playing.

Then they announced a proper DayZ game, then H1Z1 was announced, then Infestation: Survivor Stories (formerly The War Z) and tons of ridiculous low-effort asset flips? The problem is that nobody seems to be willing to put any actual effort behind the projects, and the only reason why The Day Before was viewed differently because superficially it seemed as the first one to actually achieve what DayZ wanted to.

Thanks for the update... as you said, it's incredibly important that these types of dodgy operators & shady practices are documented for future reference by both gamers & consumers in general. I've been checking in on the numbers & reviews on Steam as well as catching a few people streaming it in the days since launch, just to get a feel for the legitimacy of the game as a viable product... and it's been surprising to see how _little_ has happened from the developer's side. The silence from the Eff'n-tastic Twins is deafening.
Streamers who are clearly trying to give the game a chance (even now) are barely progressing from what I saw on release day, and it seems pretty clear now this was always just intended to be Bait & Switch #3 for the brothers.
I hope Steam steps in to refund the majority of players because there's plenty of evidence TDB doesn't fulfil the requirements of an Early Access release, and dodgy devs shouldn't be able to use EA to pocket money from players who couldn't be bothered to chase a refund.

When I was developing a game for a bit there, I had to use the asset store because (1) no one wants to work with you for free unless you're a huge studio with name value, even if it's part time and (2) it's sometimes just easier. What's awful about proximity chat not being in the game is that Lethal Company, a indie game made by literally one person, was able to manage that. I'm no gave dev, so I don't know how hard that is to implement, but I think that looks pretty bad when one guy can do what Fntastic failed to do.

Those Russian bot reviews are literally saying "Could be better". When even bots can't shamelessly praise the game.
